Patchouly, prodigy means exceptionally talented, usually pertaining to a youth. So by saying he`s amazing you defined him as a prodigy. It`s just a different way of saying it. He plays drums really damn well having never taken a formal lesson or having someone who`s a drummer around him. That is an exceptionally talented youth, hence prodigy.

I`m ignoring the snobs, and just enjoying the video. Very talented, and yes, with a name like "Jaxon", destined to be a rock god.

"Patchouly, did you read the headline or the drop down over the video that says self-taught?"

No, I did not. However, it really doesn`t change anything. The kid is playing a very simple beat. Judging by the condition of his sticks, he has practiced it A LOT. I, myself, am self-taught. I taught myself to play guitar, drums, bass and some wind instruments. From there I went on to spend 7 years on the road and after that taught music at a local music school and did studio work for local bands. I would never consider myself a prodigy because I was self-taught.

Again, I think the issue is that, anytime a non-musician sees a kid playing an instrument, they think they must be a prodigy. That just isn`t the case. Most kids start learning an instrument between the ages of 6 and 12. I`d say 25% of those 6 year old kids play as well as this kid.

@auburnjunky---I think it`s more like Jackson, not Jason.

This is great, but I cannot stand people who spell Jason, Jaxon.

@ jamie76 the foo fighters are one of the few bands left today that produce incredible music without all the autotune and fake BS. Their last album was recorded all in Grohl`s garage on analog tape with nothing but old fashioned rock.

and this is how simple music today has gotten. this kid is pretty cool for doing that but my gf is a music teacher and i see kids this age play the poo out of the drums all the time.

todays music = so simple a 6 year old could play it.

" Right in line with other 6 year old drummers who are taking lessons and practice as often as their teachers recommend." Patchouly, did you read the headline or the drop down over the video that says self-taught? He didn`t takes lessons. From what I`ve read he watches DVDs and imitates what he sees. So yeah, I`d say the term prodigy is fair.

Patchouly nailed it. The kid may be a musical prodigy compared to someone who doesn`t play at all, but I see nothing special here. I see dedication and practice. That being said, good job, kid.

I hate being the one to always have to say this but, he is NOT a "musical prodigy". Is he good? Yes, the kid is amazing. Right in line with other 6 year old drummers who are taking lessons and practice as often as their teachers recommend.

It`s seems that there are far too many folks will to call any kid who can play an instrument, a "musical prodigy". If that were true, ever single one of my students would have been prodigies.

That said, yes, the kid is amazing and if he keeps it up, he will be a really great drummer some day.
