I can`t imagine every atheist would be thrilled marrying a person that was a Christian and would take the kiddies to church. So maybe get the hell over it?

I`m certain her imam is all in favor of her marrying an infidel. We all know how tolerant Muslims are of other faiths.

I`ve given up looking for the marionette strings that make this relic move in such a lifelike manner- I now suspect a ventriloquist has his hand up the backside of this dummy.

Wow, just wow. The fact he hasn`t been struck by lightning is proof there is no god.

My girlfriend believes in Santa Claus and I believe in the Easter Bunny, but we seem to make it work.

I hope they can find a way to somehow accomodate their religions, but I`d be surprised if they did.

Even the wedding itself would be a problem. Where would it be done and which rituals would be carried out? Would clerics of either religion agree to marry them? Strictly speaking, it`s not allowed. What happens if they have children? Etc, etc.

Good luck to them, but it`s a big obstacle to overcome.

While I`m at it:

`Christ` is a title, so it makes no sense to use it by itself as if it was a name. I just did it because you had, but it`s wrong.
What the f*ck. Muslims are unbelievers and heathens?
They`re not Christians, which technically makes them unbelievers (and therefore heathens) from a more restrictive Christian point of view.
Why, because they believe in everything but Christ?
Muslims do believe in Christ. They believe in him as a holy man chosen by God to bring a major message to humanity. "Prophet" is the usual English translation, although I question whether it`s the best one.

But there`s another important difference - Muslims believe that the teachings of Mohammed supercede the teachings of Jesus (and everyone else).
Doesn`t this f*ckstick know they are basically the same religion with just a few different characters and stories.
They`re not. Same god, different religions. Really quite different.
What people should understand is that Christians, like Obama, are pretty much the most liberal religious group on the planet.
Why should people understand something that is both untrue and misleading?

Misleading: When talking about religion, the appropriate phrase would be "least illiberal", not "most liberal". Also, the degree of illiberality varies wildly amongst Christians. Christianity goes right the way from mildly illiberal to outright tyrannical.

Untrue: There are a number of religions that are less illiberal than Christianity. You don`t hear much about them because, unsurprisingly, theists of those religions are not generally interested in imposing their beliefs on others and they`re not generally interested in seeking power (so they don`t usually have power).

Why are such hate groups allowed to continue?

This is why I find religion ridiculous. Let people be with who they want. It`s so mindless to care about who other people want to marry. Most likely they`ll get divorced anyway.

Don`t mind me I`m just bitter :)

Pat`s got a lot more liberal of late. Just recently he said the bible was wrong about slavery being ok.

As for the couple, I think both religions are dead set against it (although islam is cool with muslim groom and christian/jewish bride - not vice versa) so a recognised religious marriage would be a problem. Maybe they could settle for a domestic contract of some kind. Wouldn`t want to re-define marriage. That way madness lies.

If God wanted organized religion wouldn`t all the religions be the same?

Robertson is a dick, but I don`t see the problem with a chosen belief system expecting its members to marry (and raise their children) with others who choose the same belief system. We often treat discrimination based on religion similar to that based onr race, but we have to remember that they are different issues.

Andrew155: Muslims aren`t at the top of the list, but as a group in America they`re more liberal than many christian groups.

Wiki: Evelutionar Creationism - look for the chart based on religious demographic

Wiki: Female political leaders in_Islam and in Muslim-majority countries

While many chrsitian groups are liberal, and many Catholics are liberal, the first time Catholics as a demographic voted for a pro-choice candidate was within the past decade as hispanic immigrants grew to become a larger percentage of America`s Catholic population, and various other "Religious conservatism" issues in America which go "against" the interests of Christian Immigrants became hot button topics (like immigration).

"Why would I marry someone who doesn`t share my religious beliefs?"

Maybe because you found someone you love and care about, who you get along with very well, etc, who happens to have different religious beliefs? I thought I wouldn`t date anyone who`s not an atheist but I`m currently in "mutual like" with a friend (not quite to dating yet but it`s heading in that direction) who`s a catholic and I`m an atheist (Buddhist specifically but yeah). I don`t have a problem with his religion as long as he doesn`t constantly try to convert me and isn`t anti-gay rights (which he isn`t as far as I know) and other similar things. I don`t know if he has a problem with my "religion" but he seems fine with it so far :P I`m not sure how it`ll work out if we have kids together and such but others have managed interfaith marriages so...

There is a world outside of America and Europe, Christianity is still VERY liberal compared to other religions. There are even branches of Christianity that support gay marriage. Obama and other liberal politicians are also Christian. Moreover, American Catholics vote for pro-choice candidates. People overdramatize the effect of religious people in America. Who cares about Pat Robertson? I barely even know who he is. I just know that the religious society of America has created a liberal society where access to abortions is easier and safer than many European countries.

Now, Buddhists in America tend to be very liberal. That`s not the case everywhere, it has aspects of liberalism and conservatism in it.

But then you have Islam. You think Christian conservatives are extreme? Even moderate Muslims are more conservative than American conservatives. Similar stories go for other religious such as Hinduism. Go read a book about the outside world. Thank science you live wher

So what`s the big deal? Christians shouldn`t marry non-Christians. Paul advises against it. Why would I marry someone who doesn`t share my religious beliefs?

Christianity and Islam have the same God. It`s the God of Abraham. They differ on who God`s true prophet was, which affects the nature of God, so he is in fact quite different in each religion. One demands that people submit, the other desires that they choose. But both are going to royally butt-rape you if you don`t do what they want.

Yeah, I just feel the love whenever the christians vote against my right to marry. Or try to pass legislation keeping me from adopting or teaching in public schools...etc.

Yes, those preachers are so liberally tolerant and accepting when they shout from their pulpits that I am destined to burn in hell. Makes my eyes misty it`s so touching.

Wow, people really hate Christians here. What people should understand is that Christians, like Obama, are pretty much the most liberal religious group on the planet.

What about Islam, though? I have Muslim friend from UAE who is going to be FORCED to marry somebody as soon as she finishes her Masters degree. That`s what the MOST educated people in that part of the world have to go through.

For some reason, liberals are just really weird about Islam (Cons are in a different way). I can`t put my finger on it. This outrage against Christians is child`s play.

I`m a christian with a jewish person, does that mean I`m going to hell? NO, if the fact that your partner believes something different from you bothers you then don`t be with them. BUT if you can both accept that you believe different things and are willing to compromise when it comes to children then it will work out....simple as that

I`m fairly certain Muslim Women are not allowed to marry infedels either...

But yes: Robertson may be a 99% idiot, but he makes sense here.
Conversion shouldn`t be forced on someone. "You cannot marry me unless you convert" went out of style 40 years ago. It used to be quite common actually...

Sex for conversion is also a bad idea!

@Gerry1 gives many fine examples, if it`s that important? Go fine someone who already shares your faith!

I feel that Christians should NOT marry Christians. If a Christian marries a sane person, maybe the sane person can lead the suffering into the light of rationality, and save them. Two Christians though, will only escalate the situation and they may produce offspring that think that dinosaurs walked the earth two thousand years ago and that extreme weather is God punishing them for their sins.

markus, they aren`t the same at all. Having the same deity doesn`t make it the same religion. That`s like saying Repubicans and Democrats are the same because they`re in the same political system.

Common sense, the people getting married should have a life commonality. If you are anti-drug don`t marry a stoner. If you`re a health nut don`t marry a 300 lb woman. If you`re religious, don`t marry outside your faith.

I agree with Pat. If you view marriage as a religious covenant, then both parties have to have the same view of marriage. How to make your home and how to raise your children are all influenced by their faith. If faith is that important to them, they shouldn`t have dated outside their faith.

For example, it would never work if I an athiest married a Jesus freak. We just want our lives to go in differant directions.

No surprises there. I used to date a Christian girl and everything was peachy until things started to get serious. That`s when it was either convert for her or that`s it. So much for tolerance.
