Link: Parents Let Daughter, 5, Swim With Sharks - Lots of people are calling this irresponsible. What do you think, I-A-B. Does it matter if the sharks seemed smallish?

Pretty bad reporting, that reporter was no Sharkspeare. Yes, that was sharkasm! I`ll bet the news will have a feeding frenzy over this, they`re all bottom-feeders. Those sharks weren`t bothering the girl...plenty of other fish in the sea.

    Okay, I`m fin-ished. Now it`s Hammerhead Time!

As long as the little girl can refrain from attacking the sharks or drilling for oil and thus destroying their habitat, I see no problem with this.

Not my 5 year old kids, but I don`t know that I have a problem with their 5 year old kid doing it. Poor think might not even remember it later in life anyway.

If it had been a fat, ugly child this would not have been a "story" at all.

If it had been a fat kid, they might have eaten her. Big story.

People are so ignorant when it comes to sharks. Anyways, they are obviously kept fed and therefore not hungry, so she was safe. What an experience to say you had, swimming with sharks. At least her parents aren`t keeping her ignorant and sheltered, but giving her experiences many will be too scared to have in their lifetimes. I`m kinda jelly, that looked cool.

    Dad looks a lot older...

Dad made a very good point: Why don`t they make kids wear seat belts on school buses? an hour or 2 in a "shark tank" or 540 hours on a school bus (avg 15 min * 180 days * 12 years) which is more dangerous?

Dogs can bite humans too, but a child playing with a dog is cute. Most sharks are harmless to people, and even the dangerous ones rarely attack us.

If you live in a area surrounded by your fav food and then a slug shows up... would you eat the slug? Humans taste vile to them and there is only a handful of cases where they went for a second bite.

My hand broke the sound barrier going towards my forehead for a facepalm.

I have dove with sharks many times and I would feel completely comfortable allowing my child, my wife, my mom, anybody I give a crap about, swim with Lemon, Nurse and Reef sharks. Unless you step on them, harass them, or punch them in the face, these shark species will do nothing to you.

This is an example of non-news being treated as news.

i wouldnt do this for my children but im not opposite to this philosophy. i have been hurt in noumerous ways when i was young. i got to hospital twice for head injuries (one of which i had temporary amnesia:D)and im still fine. and through all this procedure i learnt to be careful. now i know not to do stupid things with a bike, or jump from my roof on my friend or eat any crap they say online. this "taking care of children" is actually doing them more harm than good. (btw... tell ur child it cant ride a bike because its dangerous, or go hiking because a snake may bite it)

How many parents let their children swim in the ocean every year? This is ridiculous, there is no real danger here. I wish my parents would have done something like this when I was a kid.

Safer swimming with sharks than riding public transportation I say. This is a non issue and the people crying foul are all going to die on their couches.

Going to the store in a car is more dangerous than this, perhaps we should never let our kids out of the house. No more eating anything allergenic, ever. No running, jumping, or sports of any kind. In fact we should really have padded rooms devoid of furnishings lest they get a boo boo.
I get that they are sharks, and predatory, but they don`t prey on humans but for mistakes and this was a semi controlled environment. She experienced something amazing and really it was less dangerous than her parents driving into the wrong neighborhood which is far more likely. This is nothing more than peoples misconceptions and ignorance at play to demonize people who aren`t as sheltered as they are.

Both lemon & nurse are dangerous.
They are chumming too. I would. not let a kid in the midst if that but they are so many fcuked up things parents do, this is not the worst.

Lemon and nurse are not dangerous unless you maltreat them. only a bull or a particularly frisky reef would be an issue .. This was lower risk than letting a kid swim unsupervised amidst jetskis, longtails, undertows and paedos.
