there were spinoff books written about the Land of Oz. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West is one of my favorite series in regards to the spinoff novels.

Wait, "Great Man", isn`t he a hack by the time Dorthy gets to him?

They had me at Sam Raimi, I`ll watch just for the Bruce Campbell cameo.

that1joshguy: "well wait moment - wasn`t the whole thing a dream? Dorthy get ko`ed dreamt it up? If so there eas no Oz or wizard"

It`s (I`m sure, purposefully) left unclear at the end of the original novel:
Aunt Em had just come out of the house to water the cabbages when she looked up and saw Dorothy running toward her.

"My darling child!" she cried, folding the little girl in her arms and covering her face with kisses. "Where in the world did you come from?"

"From the Land of Oz," said Dorothy gravely. "And here is Toto, too. And oh, Aunt Em! I`m so glad to be at home again!"
The books were written for children, so it should come as no surprise that the ending is ambiguous, with allowance for both a fantastical interpretation for children and a pragmatic interpretation

AJ:"This book was written in 1900. It could be more faithful than the original movie from the 30`s. We don`t know yet."

Huh? The original book was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published in 1900. It tells the story of Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and Toto. This is not in any way a direct adaptation of that story. In fact, to my knowledge, this film is not adapted from any of the original Baum novels, except the description of how the Wizard came to the land from Omaha in Chapter 15.

None of this means that this film won`t be good - or great. But, to my knowledge, it is from the imagination of the filmmakers, not Mr. Frank Baum.

Also, the 1939 film was NOT (completely) faithful to the 1900 book. It follows it in a general way, but adopts many changes.

Doesn`t look like crap at first glance. Like that they kept the real world b/w and Oz color. The real question is what Floyd album will this one sync up to?

@Beternal Yeah he was crap in the spiderman films, but he made up for it in Pineapple Express.

Then he went back to being crap in Your Highness.

Oh crap, not James Franco! - The way he butchered the goblin, just him as an actor makes me cringe.

"Doesn`t look like they`re sticking to the books."

It`s based on the original story "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" written in 1900.
