Now, time for a grown up discussion. First, you can`t even tell exactly what happened due to the poor camera quality from far away. You can`t even hear any dialogue.

However, it appears he told the kid to let go of the wall and he wouldn`t. (Go ahead, watch it). That`s why the kid tore the poster OUT OF THE WALL when the cop suddenly pulled him away. He was holding on pretty tightly. Also, the kid was running from the cop in the beginning. That alone is resisting. Come on now.

Anytime a cop uses force, without all the information available, it just inherently looks bad. Even when it`s known that the force is justified, it still looks bad. Deal with it.

cops are gonna find out what living in a world full or informed citizens with cameras means to them and they are going to find out that being fired and jail time comes with not treating people correctly.

heard your tired argument a million times in cases like this and it is just that, tired, overused and BS. the kid react to the cop touching his GENITALS and the cop attacked him.

there was no reason for it. the kid was not a threat. this is just more police bs.

I really hope one day the Standford experiments become common knowledge.

I know the was a small group, but it makes a lot of sense when you look at everyday events like this. If it can stop a few officers by making them question their motives now and then that would be awesome.

One criticism of the experiments was the professor led hem verbally to their actions, but that can very well happen in real life esp with young recruits eager to fit in and please their superiors.

The genitals thing was before the body slam. The fact is that you don`t even know, yet you jump to a concrete conclusion. The fact is the kid was running away before anything was filmed. Anything could have been happening. You don`t know. The only thing that is known is that he was previously resisting by running away.

I work with the police so I can put in a little bit of knowledge here...

First thing I`m seeing, as this video begins, is the kid trying to get away from the officer. That by itself screams suspicion. Also, you don`t know what kind of call the officer is responding to - if he`s there for a weapons call, then obviously he`s going to be very authoritative with the kid in case he has some sort of weapon.

Now the cop has him against the wall and it searching him, and orange shirt is coming up behind him. He`s now trying to control the kid he`s searching, while watching someone walking up from behind. That`s a position that NOBODY would want to be in. The situation is becoming dangerous because of the actions of the kids, not the officer.

I couldn`t hear (crappy quality) if there was indeed an issue with the officer touching the boy`s genitals. If there was, well, too bad, anyone who gets searched will be searched there. It`s one of the most popular places to hid

Some reason people think we won’t search you there. Unless the officer was excessively feeling/groping the boy’s genitals, then there’s nothing wrong here.
While the officer was searching the boy’s pockets, he reacts as though he found what he may believe to be a weapon, and attempts to brace the boy while he attempts to retrieve it. As he does, the boy twists away as though to get away. At this point, there’s no reason for the cop to believe that whatever he felt is NOT a weapon. As soon as the boy struggles, he attempts to prone him out to get better control, and the boy grabs onto the wall. What do you expect the officer to do, say, “Oh, well if you don’t want to go down, I suppose you can just stay like this?”. He takes the boy down exactly as we’re taught to do (which doesn’t cause nearly as much damage as it may look).

Now the officer is dealing with (at least) three potential threats from the boys (camera, orange, and grey, unless I didn’t see others). The main suspect is now resisting, and the orange shirt keeps getting extremely close to the officer even though the officer has repeatedly told him to stay back.
Think about the situation from the officer’s point of view before you all jump on the “oh, he’s an evil pig sadist corrupt bastard etc etc etc” bandwagon. Last month, a man I worked with gave his life protecting a woman from her armed ex-boyfriend. Because of his actions, the woman is safe today and her two kids will grow up with their mother. Think before you speak and generalize the police.

The fact that you think the holder of the cell phone who uploaded this video (Not orange, orange was being dumb) is one of three threats at ANY point in this video, proves just how ridiculous cop defense mentality is, spear. I didn`t even bother reading everything else you said, it may have all been perfectly logical legitimate concerns, but when the first thing I read is something as insane as someone with a camera is a threat, it clearly doesn`t matter what happened in this video, you`d defend it.

Seemed like a legit reaction to me. The kid was getting shifty. Dealing with police is very easy, relax, and don`t do anything that could frighten them. They want to go home to their family at the end of the night. If you cooperate with them, things will turn out better every time.

Look close, the kid is holding the picture frame. The cop {aparently} wants him to let go but the kid holds on so the cops forces him to let go. From that point on the kid is obviously resisting.

It sickens me how much poo cops have to put up with sometimes. Everybody is againt them while not even 1% of us could handle a job like that. Sure, some of them are crooked and act rashly but majority of them genuinely want to uphold the peace in a fair manner. The two jerks walking around him with their cameras deserved to get thrown to the ground a few times themselves. They don`t know what happened but they`re automatically sided against the cop, and they look like just the kind of dimwitted little pooheads you would expect to side against authority just because they think it gives them status or something idiotic like that. In my opinion, him breaking out his pistol and scattering a few teeth on the ground would`ve been just fine by me, some people just don`t learn respect any other way than getting drated up but somebody who deserves that respect.

I think if I were the cop, I`d *want* the kid to hold on to the wall, you know, so he doesn`t pull a gun or a knife on me??? Maybe that`s just me. I`m sure cop training 101 says to just bodyslam first and ask questions later.

"Everybody is againt them while not even 1% of us could handle a job like that"

Cops aren`t firefighters. Most men between the ages of 20 and 40 could handle the job no problem. Most would also do something like this cop did or other`s posted here have done at some point as well. I understand you`re inexperienced, but the reality is imposing authority physically or figuratively really isn`t that difficult for the vast majority of men.

This is getting out of hand. Why is it whenever a police officer (in US) is trying to do his/her job the first reaction is now to film them and disrespect them with the aim of adding to the picture that they are somehow tearing your society apart? Wouldn`t it be better for everyone to work with them? Without them it might be slightly worse, no? They are just people...

The cop was scared.. Look at his twitching while the guy is perfectly still. Then he seacrhed him, the guy gets a reaction to something the cop did (accidental pinch, what ever it was) and doesn`t take his hands off the wall (not a threat IMHO) get bodyslammed, tried to get back up, putting both hands on the wall and gets slammed again... Looks like rookie cop, scared pooless, over-reacting to a tiny teen. I mean, the kid is right-hand-behind-my-back material..

Boo hoo. The kid did something wrong and got thrown to the ground. Cops have a hard job protecting you. Imagine how crappy it would be to know that you risk your life, on a daily basis to help keep people safe, and they all hated you for it. The problem isn`t the cops, it`s the folks who get pissed off because they are forced to follow the rules.

That kids pants were lower than the recommendatory limit. This means the gap between the top of the socks and the bottom of the pants is also too small.

You`re right that police officers have a tough job and are, at least, underappreciated. This kid wasn`t endangering anyone, though. While he may have been saying something to piss off the officer, the officer`s response was abusive. He has a duty not only to protect the public but, also, to meet a higher standard in doing so than those from whom he protects us. If nothing else, this is the kind of act that people point to as their excuse for hating the police. (Note that I say it`s the excuse, not the reason!)

Cops are supposed to "protect and serve" Not enforce their will on people. I don`t want to hear about how tough the job is. If you don`t have the right temperament, you should not have the job. Not everyone is cut out for this or any other job.

@ Cartunze - I don`t recall the specific comments, but I don`t doubt I may have said it was okay for a cop to shoot you. Sometimes, it is necessary. I don`t think every cop shooting is a "rogue cop" or a hate crime. Some are legitemate. But that doesn`t make me trust them. They aren`t there to protect me, they`re there to keep the peace - aparently at any cost. If I am in the way I have no doubt they will walk right over me to "keep the peace".

Just before the slam, the cop is holding the teen`s upper arms and seems to be attempting to pull them down (at 0.43). We can`t hear what might have been said at this stage.

Perhaps the cop was saying "put your hands behind your back" and was attempting to move his arms accordingly, and the teen was resisting moving his arms down as instructed?

If true, I don`t know whether the following actions are justified. I don`t know what the rules are there.

As always, the video does not tell us everything we need to know to judge.

While I do think the cop used more force than was called for, I saw no `body slam`. I did see a couple of judo type throws.
From the way the cop frisked the kid, and how he acted while trying to walk the kid out of there, I can only assume he ranked near the bottom of his class at the academy.

It is clear that the officer asks a few times why are you moving do you have something on you. So it is clear the kid is not complying 100%. I may not know everything but i know you dont move while a officer pats you down. Any movement while in a position like that they cant 100% perceive if its a threat to them or a twitch reaction that you did on accident. Then you can see the officer pull the kid back a bit and the kid had hold of the poster. Every arrest i have seen they want your hands open and not holding onto anything(gives you leverage to do any number of things) and this kid was clearly holding onto the poster. And from then on the kid was ating like a idiot saying i am not resisting but the pure of act of saying he is not resisting and not putting his arms back is the act
As with others i dont 100% trust cops because there are bad eggs but in this case the cop was justified. Also the kid didnt get hurt. It wasnt like the cop did a pile driver on the kid. It was a body thr
