The fact is that crazies are crazy and will find a way to do bad things if that`s what they are bent to do.
Semi-auto rifles (not to mention fully auto) are without a doubt a problem. And as a law abiding person why shouldn`t I be able to go to a range or out in the country and shoot at a target for entertainment? One could say that the movie they were watching was just for entertainment as well and served no other purpose but to expose them to baddies, we should ban those too. Sweets kill more people than guns in the US and they serve no purpose but to entertain our mouths, we should ban those too. I could make a whole list. Then there`s the fact that were there no such thing as guns the nutter would have gone on a stabbing spree or made a bomb with fertilizer and other normal things anyone can get. Maybe we should ban fertil

@Scuzoid

I doubt you own any firearms otherwise you`d know it`s very hard to get full auto weapons in the US already.
What on earth would any private citizen need with that kind of ammunition?
Buying in bulk saves money tons of people order a bunch of ammo online for that very reason. I own an AR-15 it`s a fantastic target rifle it`s killed no one guns are not the problem people are the fact you don`t like something dosen`t mean it should be banned....

@Scuzoid: I overlooked the fact that he had a 100 round mag.

The mag is the problem in that case, not the weapon.

I missed this discussion when it was going on. For some reason, I feel like Auburn has never held an m-16/ar-15. Semi-auto rifles have no place in the public sector. Period. 100 round mags have no place in the public sector. Period. This is assuming the gun was even semi-auto as I`m not sure. Regardless of whether it was semi or full, I can unload that full mag in two minutes. Semi is, in my opinion, more dangerous in the hands of a novice as Holmes appeared to be, than full as he could`ve come close to that same fire rate without having to deal with the constant recoil of full.

I own a number of weapons. What I don`t own are full auto handguns or semi auto rifles. These weapons are NEVER about protection and survival as a civilian. They`re about intimidation, entertainment, and slaughter. None of which should be legally defended.

Here`s waiting for the ballistic report that shows he unloaded that mag.

@tedgp. You allege that Holmes announced his intent on 4chan prior to carrying out his massacre. Got a screencap of the thread, or a link to the thread if it was archived ?? As they say, pics, or it didnt happen...

Okay Ted. I`ll bite.

People who say that Pearl Harbor was known and allowed, say it was to coerce the American people to allow entry into WWII. To sway popular opinion and convince Congress to allow for a declaration of war.

People who say that 9/11 was known and allowed, say it was to coerce the American people to allow entry into Iraq and Afghanistan. To sway popular opinion and convince Congress to allow for a declaration of war.

How is it a dumb correlation again? It`s a direct correlation.
Holmes used a military-style semi-automatic rifle
This is a misleading statement.

He used an AR-15. These are available to the public, because they are simply rifles. They are hyper accurate, but in the end, it is just a rifle. Saying it is military style, is just anti-gun spin. Anyone can buy one, and use it to hunt.

The most deadly weapon the guy had was the shotgun. Think about what a shotgun can do, indoors, in a closed in environment. You actually have to aim with the AR, but that`s the weapon being focused on. I would surmise that over 50% of actual bullet strikes were done with the shotgun.

"Mr. Oates said Holmes used a military-style semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun and a pistol to open fire on the unsuspecting cinema-goers. He had bought the weapons at local gun stores within the last two months and recently purchased 6,000 rounds of ammunition over the internet.

Holmes also bought an urban assault vest, two magazine holders and a knife for just over 300 dollars (£192) on July 2 from an online supplier of tactical gear for police and military personnel, according to the company."

How is it possible to purchase 6000 rounds of ammunition, military gear, knives and etc.. off the internet without any red flags?

----------

Simple. Don`t buy it from one source. Make sure you get it couriered, and don`t order it all at the same time.

Since this guy announced on 4chan a day or so before the shootings happened, it can be ascertained that he acquired the ammunition from less than reputable sources. Sources that simply dont question why he wants the product, they just want the money.

Cue the renewed call for legislation to police and eavesdrop on the internet more - with added copyright clauses just for good measure.

Oh come on, I`m not down with having big brother over my shoulder but 6000 rounds??? What on earth would any private citizen need with that kind of ammunition?

9/11 was a premeditated terrorist attack,planned and carried out by dozens/hundreds of people, that killed thousands.

They are not the same....
___

I agree with you but they did say that he spent months planning this event and he even booby trapped his apartment.

Aurora is a terrible tragedy, caused by one person (likely mentally ill).

They are not the same....

9-11 was done to bring home to the Americans that they are not invulnerable to their actions in the international arena. It was a wake up call.

Columbine was done to highlight the inequity of the toxic public school culture.

Colorado II was done because... Dunno. There was no apparent motive at all. Maybe he didn`t like the movie. One reviewer described it as "The Dark Knightmare: It`s bottom-numbingly long, the baddie is a mumbling bore and the plot is a pretentious mess - even Batman can`t escape this disaster" before being flamed to death by Batfans.

In a way, maybe James Holmes is the ultimate movie critic.

Either way, I think he`s having the last word. Reviewers may think twice about reviewing this movie when fans show up in head to toe body armour toting an assault rifle, shotgun, 6,000 rounds of ammo, smoke grenades and a medium bag of sweet popcorn.

And of course, conspirationist wouldnt let this opportunity to go away, according some this was a blood sacrifice and among other "proof" they mention this:

"So now let`s take a look at Freemans character. Lucis Fox

Lucis = Lucifer

Fox=
F = 6
O = 15 = 1+5 = 6
X = 24 = 2+4 = 6
= 666

Lucis Fox = Lucifer 666, this is no coincidence or accident.Why? Someone with knowledge has gone to alot of trouble.

So is Lucifer Rising????

Lucifer is a NGO with a permanent seat a the U.N and it`s central office is N.Y`s Wall St."

I`m sure some exec a-hole has already patented the storyline. They will search for a director beginning Monday and market it as an "indie" film when it comes out next year starring Joseph Gordon Levitt and Emma Watson.

Strange comment. I don`t think ever, unless it`s Michael Moore who made a movie about Columbine.

"This was a horrible thing to happen, to be sure. But why do people go so overboard with it? Posting this picture won`t bring anyone back. The people who actually were affected will likely never see it. The only person you`re serving is yourself, trying to feel as though you`ve done something to help these people and patting yourself on the back for absolutely nothing."

Is the movie now cursed?

I live over 3,000 miles away and I felt 9-11. It was horrible, and the comparison is grossly over-used, but it was quite a long time ago. Some girls who were born one or two years before are having their own babies now.

Bad taste? oh yes. But don`t forget 9/11 was almost 12 years ago. That means there are teenagers who don`t remember where they were when they heard what was happening. They can`t accurately compare because they really don`t know.
