I would be willing to bet that athletes way back when were better. They didn`t have any of the science and technology to help advance them.

Did you know that Michael Phelps sleeps in a chamber that makes the air thinner as though he`s 10,000 feet high? That`s the difference.

Also the training and methods that are used today are way better and produce a better athlete then 100 years ago.

Do yourself a favour and watch or re-watch "Chariots of Fire". One of my favourite movies of all time... And a great score by Vangelis. "I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure." Eric Liddell

Sam Mussabini: Eric Liddell? He`s no real problem...

Harold M. Abrahams: You could have fooled me.

Sam Mussabini: Yeah, he`s fast! But he won`t go any faster. He`s a gut runner, digs deep! But a short sprint is run on nerves. It`s tailor-made for neurotics.

The discus probably doubled because, either they throw a different discus, or they used advances in physics to figure out how to throw it most efficiently.

Mark Spitz won 7 gold medals at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. Since then, every one of his records has been broken...by high school athletes.

I always thought the men`s 100m would be more spread out. Flo-Jo? come on, you`re all thinking the same thing. As for the field events dropping. That`s drug testing for you.

I`m going to be chauvenistic and question how the women appear to be better at the discus than men.
