I love that Freddie Mercury and David Bowie are in the Abyssal Plain. Also the Russian thing got a chuckle.

Yeah Fwoggie, there`s a bit of artistic licence taken with that one. The water depth of the Deepwater Horizon is right, but the total depth of the well was round 5500m below sea level where the hydrocarbon pool was - somewhere between the Titanic and Freddie Mercury/David Bowie. At 12km depth, the rocks you`re drilling through are usually hot enough to melt lead...

So based on this, Hawaii is only 10k ft below sea level. And I thought that venice was in danger of sinking. Maybe we do live on a flat earth as we have been told for so long and the tides are the bowl we live in swaying like a pedulum. And pictures of our world from space are distorted due to the fact that we use curved lenses in cameras. Buy in space, no one can hear you scream, But can anyone see your tears when you cry?

vv faaaq, ah durr, my bad. You`re correct.

I thought (mistakenly) this was referring to the well that blew out in the Gulf - the Macondo prospect. It was at 5500m or so. But indeed, the Deepwater Horizon did set the depth record as you described the previous year on another location, the Tiber oilfield.

I`m now going to hang my head in shame and drink some more, as if I haven`t already drunk enough to make a `tard of myself online...

(p.s. very deep wells are possible in the GoM, as the geothermal gradient is extremely low by global average standards, hencee why records are set there for drill depth)

    *hic!*
