And I Thought *My* Leg Cramps Were Bad!

"Painful" doesn"t begin to describe this. I"m half-expecting an alien to emerge from that calf.

@Atrayu4u: You make some good points, especially about how the guy seems a little amused by it at one point. It makes me wonder if maybe they`d both been drinking. I`ve had leg cramps that didn`t look as bad as this one where I was literally seeing stars and colors because of the pain.

I had no idea something like that could happen; hope I never experience that. I`d have been helping to stretch the calf (at least I`d offer) but that`s just me maybe.

Squrlz, it truly is a weird thing to see. She`s probably freaked out, and that`s just her reaction to it. It seems to me that he also has some nervous laughter at about 1:20.

@Chalket: That is utterly ridiculous. Also, based on my experiment last night, it appears to work.

@Thirrteen: Like you, I was impressed by how little empathy the woman making the video exhibits. When someone you care about is groaning and grimacing in pain, giggling like that is *not* a normal reaction.

uhh... if your muscles start tweeking like they`re gonna rip out of your body, that is probably a good time to stop recording and head to the hospital..also it kinda looks like he actually completely severed a muscle. groty

@PinkRhoid and others with night cramps or RLS

You won`t believe this until you try it, my wife scoffed at first but now swears by it and many testimonials back it up. Put a bar of soap, any kind, under your bottom sheet near your legs. That`s all, your cramps will go away. My wife used to get leg cramps 2-3 times a week, she`s had one cramp in nearly 2 years since trying it.

Just eat a banana and punch that muscle, or just stand up, put the plant of your foot well sticked on the floor and incline your body forward.

I`ve got lot of cramps like that as a swimmer.

Massage Therapist here. To stop a cramp (usually), activate the cramping muscle`s "antagonist" muscle. For calf cramps, place your hands over the top of your foot and press your foot into your hands. I`ve also heard that potassium deficiency causes cramps, so it wouldn`t hurt to eat a banana.
who better to turn to for advice on alleviating cramps than a woman!!!
Yeah, menstrual cramps are caused by an entirely different physiological process to leg cramps though, chicken.

Don`t take Dioralyte for your period, girls: you`ll only end up feeling ill if you don`t actually have an electrolyte imbalance.

OK listen up pips
If you are cramping hold the muscle under running warm water for a relief and drink tall glass of isotonic isotonic drink like `Pocari Sweat` or better still coconut water.

Reasons for cramps:
- vitamin D deficiency. Easy way to fix this is to sit in the morning Sun bare back without sun block for 20 min. If you don`t have sunny days the lots of green leafy veggies or a supplement
- Calcium deficiency: consume small tub of natural yoghurt a day. If you think you are eating enough calcium then may be the absorption is the issues. Body has difficulty assimilating Calcium without appropriat amounts of Magnesium
& Pottasiam. Take supplements daily till you stop cramping.

MacGuffin makes me think, if a guy suffers from severe cramps, who better to turn to for advice on alleviating cramps than a woman!!! I never thought to ask my female neighbors to help my hubby with this problem. Now I will!

Thanks MacGuffin! Who knew you`d actually be useful!

@Gerry1of1: "Also, a banana a day helps. They`re loaded with potasium which is good for severe cramps."

From reading a lot of your other posts here on IAB, I assume the bananas are to be taking anally? ;)

Bananas are good, and so are these. You can stow a sachet or two in your bergen in case you need `em whilst out hillwalking (bagging haggises, or whatever), and they`ll keep for ages.

PinkRhoid - Geez Dude! You`re under 30 and had more injuries the Evel Knievel. You might wanna take it slower!

But yes, dehydration is a factor. My hubby gets them at night also and wakes up hollerin`. Also, a banana a day helps. They`re loaded with potasium which is good for severe cramps.

Usually these are caused by dehydration. I always get them in the middle of the night and wake up screaming. I don`t know how he, with a cramp that strong, kept it together so well. Even when I do get them awake the best I can do is keep it down to a low growl/groan. I`ve broken my collarbone, my leg two times and with multiple fractures each time, and ripped my ACL completely in two. The pain after knee surgery is the only thing on par with the pain these cramps cause. At least the cramps pass after a minute or two.

Hold that man`s leg straight and get him some salts to restore his electrolyte balance, for goodness sake!
