I can`t say I`ve ever applied make-up in the car, other than lipstick while I`m stopped at a red light.

@SarahofBorg Apparently there is a need for PSAs like this. If the female drivers involved in those 500,000 accidents had watched this before they crashed, then I think it`s fair to say a fair few of them would stop putting make up on whilst driving.

"Today in London: A woman was killed in her home while filming a makeup application tutorial when another woman lost control her vehicle, due the distraction of applying makeup..."

The hell? Do we really need a PSA for that? And honestly I found her instructions kind of interesting. Sure, she comes off sounding stupid, but artistically it`s kind of interesting.

@MacGuffin: It might be very different in the USA. We had an "IAB Arguement" about this a couple of years ago. In the USA the statistics are abused in the following way:

In every study that shows men are worse drivers (in the USA):
Big Rig drivers ARE counted in the deaths and accidents, but NOT counted in the miles driven by gender.
Completely bogus, in other words.
Even the NOW`s own statistics, when looked at closely, show: Men twice as likely to have an accident, drive 3 times as much! Fatalities are another matter: when there IS an accident, the men tend to be driving faster <<NOT>> speeding! But more likely on a highway than inside the cities.
Men used to drive drunk a little more than women too, but idk if that`s true after 1990...

No I won`t spend 2 hours looking it all up! New Meds = Side Effects = OW My Head Hurts!
MacGuffin maybe cause usualy mens drive more than womans?
No, as the graphic says, whilst men do drive more than women, women still have less accidents than men even when you`re talking about per mile driven. Women have around a quarter of the number of fatalities in total as men do, and one half the number of fatalities as men per mile driven.

>>>It`s true, women drivers are the worst.<<<

Nope, women have less accidents than men. That`s why our insurance premiums are cheaper:

Not nearly as effective as those Australian commercials from the 80`s. Don`t speed and don`t drive drunk. That series packed a powerful punch!

@MacGuffin: Hooray! I found Saint Kilda Island on your map! Not ONE car accident there, ever!

Honestly, the Daily Mail and The Telegraph, they`re not ones to let the truth get in the way of a good story, are they? They`re both just the newspaper version of Fox News for their Fuzzy Maths and dubious claims!

This article appears to shed more light (again, only reported by The Telegraph). And this appears to be the actual findings of the original poll the article cites. Based on a sample of 4000 women, 23% apply makeup whilst driving, and 16% of those claimed to have had an "accident or a near miss" whilst applying makeup. In summary, that`s only 1.4% (16% of 23%) of those polled that had a crash or near miss as a result of this activity. And, of that 1.4%, we`re talking about an accident *or* a near miss: that`s a big difference. Yet, when the findings were reported in The Telegraph, that small sample and wishy-washy definition mysteriously became "500,000 accidents" caused by applying makeup.

I don`t believe for one minute that 500,000 accidents are caused in Britain by women applying makeup. (Unless of course you`re talking about men who crash whilst oggling good-looking girls). I`m assuming we`re talking about crashes in Britain here, since the girl in the video is British and The Telegraph is a British newspaper. Road safety is one of the few things Britain still does better than most other countries. This is an interactive map, showing every road fatality in Britain from 1998-2008. There were a total of 32,298 fatalities during that decade. It`s hard to believe that there were 500,000 accidents from this one cause alone (during some unspecified time period), but that so few deaths occurred over *ten years* as a result on Britain`s roads.
