HolyGod-"But he didn`t deserve to die. You think he deserved to die?"

Of course I don`t think he deserved to die. (Neither do I think Zimmerman deserved a beat-down.) But it doesn`t matter what I think. It doesn`t matter what he `deserved`. He attacked someone, and got killed in the process.

In real life, doing dumb things sometimes equals getting hurt or killed. The smart thing to do is not do dumb things.

Zimmerman had a history of calling 911 (that whole neighborhood had a history of calling 911, as the vast majority of 911 calls from that neighborhood WAS NOT from Zimmerman). Zimmerman also had a history of NOT killing people, and a history of living in peace amoungst many races.

What was the ONE difference in this instance? He got attacked and acted in self-defense (as the evidence points to at this point).

"What is that supposed to show? I`ve had more blood from head wounds I`ve gotten in friendly wrestling matches."

I`ll pay for your plane ticket to fly over here, and then I`ll stab you just enough to make you bleed just under that exact amount. And then you can fly home again.

Seeing as that`s your threshold for complaint.

When you`re on your back, and a violent thug is on top of you pounding your head into the concrete, "Stand Your Ground" doesn`t even come into play. It`s simple self-defense.

I`ll admit I never watch local news. The fake emotion / human interest / dog in tutu type segments make me painfully uncomfortable.

I know you don`t need a weapon to kill someone. You can beat someone to death with your bare hands. But certainly a weapon makes permanent damage far more likely.

I was mostly pointing out how ridiculous it is to compare this fight to the extreme instances grendel pointed out.

I don`t think anyone thinks that he deserved to die. That isn`t really the issue at hand though. The big question is whether or not Zimmerman should be punished according to the current law.

@HolyGod You must only watch the big cable news and never the local news. Either that or you are just don`t live in a place of high violence. You DO NOT NEED A WEAPON TO KILL SOMEBODY. There was an incident around me that happened not too long ago where a teen beat another teen so bad that he suffers from brain damage now. If Trayvon was smashing Zimmerman`s head against the curb, well, that can very easily be deadly force.

NightHack-"he called the police constantly"

So what? That just shows Zimmerman is more likely to call for help than confront someone. Of all those calls only one turned violent, the one involving Trayvon so it`s not a big stretch to think Trayvon might have behaved aggresively.

Let me be clear. I`m not a whiny little liberal. From assumptions I`ve made, Trayvon deserved a beatdown or to be arrested. But he didn`t deserve to die. You think he deserved to die?

What is that supposed to show? I`ve had more blood from head wounds I`ve gotten in friendly wrestling matches. That is nothing. It certainly doesn`t verge on life threatening. My point was simply that you comparing those cases to this is gross, negligent, and completely hyperbolic. You`ve picked the worse most atrocious cases of brutal gang violence induced death of the past 20 years and compared it to a simple neighborhood fight.

"I`m not sure I understand what comfort it gives you to assign me emotions"

The same comfort you get from making wild comparisons to a legitimate observation that I made I suppose. And really nothing you say is offensive to me, some of its sad, some of its funny, none of its offensive. You were the one who got all offended because I mused on what the fathers thought process was before trayvon was killed, not me. Stop projecting.

So, at what point can an individual who is getting a beatdown decide, `Hmmm....not deadly yet...I better wait a while to defend myself."

Here`s a clue: You attack someone, you might get hurt. This isn`t a wrestling match where someone will get tagged out. This is real life where you can get killed.

If someone starts to attack me, I`m not going to ask them their age, weight, what color belt they have to decide which level of defense to use. I will go to the one that has the most chances for success.

Both of my kids use a site like that and I check them every day, takes less than a minute, and they know this and behave accordingly. Why so mad?

Changing the LAW will not save anyone`s life! Educating your own child might help though!

um, the fact that the posts where up for an extended period of time, past the time he was killed? When a parent allows their children to use these things, it becomes their obligation to make sure they dont abuse them. next?

Kelly Thomas was beaten by multiple people with weapons.
Matthew Shepard was beaten by multiple people with weapons.
Vincent Chin was beaten by multiple people with weapons. Nicolas Nowillo died of a heart attack.
Derrion Albert was beaten by multiple people with weapons.
Kevin Kless was beaten by multiple people.

But please by all means compare the group attacks of armed individuals against single unarmed people to one punk with skittles fighting a full grown adult with a gun in a populated area with police already on the way.

Are you HONESTLY telling me that you can look at pictures of Zimmerman taken that night and say you feel like he was on the verge of a life threatening beating?

I find "acting like a thug" an altogether common thing for insecure young men to do. Doesn`t mean they should be killed for it. Suggesting that this is what happens when you don`t catch all your kid`s tweets is not just blaming the victim, it`s blaming the victim in the most offensive way possible -- well, that`s hyperbolic: I imagine you can get a bit more offensive.

NightHack-"George Zimmerman had no place carrying a gun to begin with"

It`s not your place to determin his place. It`s called the 2nd Amendment. He had every right to carry a gun. (he was also given the advice to carry a gun by animal services)

NightHack-"There is no evidence at all that Trayvon Martin attacked him"

Zimmerman`s enjuries to his face and head. Martin`s bruised knuckles.

NightHack-"he called the police constantly"

Hmmm...46 calls since 2004. That`s one call every two months (on average). When you`e keeping an eye on a neighborhood with crime that`s less than `constantly`.

Tell me? Are you just now hearing about this incident? Or just believing the biased reporting? Or just remaining willfully ignorant?

I`ve said it before, but no matter what the circumstance, George Zimmerman had no place carrying a gun to begin with and he never should have accosted Trayvon Martin. If he thought something was amiss, he should have called the police instead of trying to play Sheriff.
There is no evidence at all that Trayvon Martin attacked him, and even if he had there is no excuse for shooting him. Martin may well have been a dirtbag but that`s irrelevant. I`ve known plenty of dirtbags in my life and I`ve never thought "hey, somebody should execute that guy for being a dirtbag." That`s sociopathic thinking. On top of all that, Zimmerman was a known troublemaker in that he called the police constantly and had been warned more than once to stop playing at being a policeman. He`s a maladjusted guy who doesn`t understand that he is not allowed to play judge, jury and executioner in his neighborhood. He`s a murderer and a dangerous vigilante and he should be locked up.

1 Father did not reprimand son for acting like a thug when he had the chance, and MAYBE son was acting like a thug the night he was killed

2 father (and alot of people like you) places blame for son on stand your ground law and nothing else.

but go ahead and tell me how I will use any excuse to reprimand parents of dead children again, i love that part :)

That has to be the most asanine thing I`ve read. People get beat TO DEATH every day. And YOU have not idea how far Trayvon was willing to go (if, indeed, he was beating Zimmerman).

HolyGod-"Zimmerman should have just taken the beating"

Yeah, worked for Kelly Thomas, Matthew Shepard, Vincent Chin, Nicolas Nowillo, Derrion Albert & Kevin Kless. They all decided `to take the beating`. Unfortunately, they all died.

oh , and I dont know that trayvon was acting the thug, but he certainly COULD have been because he has displayed it in the past. My point was, where was the father when trayvon was displaying that side of his personality for the world to see? I think any good father would have tried to put a stop to it before it got out of control.

"trayvon was acting like a thug and got killed because of it"

You don`t deserve to get killed for acting like a thug. You deserve to get beat up. And if you can`t handle beating up a thug, don`t drat with them. Trayvon may or may not have been beating Zimmerman`s ass, but he wasn`t going to beat him TO DEATH. Zimmerman should have just taken the beating, called the police on Trayvon, and learned the lesson that he should stay in the car. In my opinion you don`t kill someone to avoid getting a beating. It is only justified to kill someone to save your life.

Omphaloskept-"son in the history of planet earth who did something dumb."

Teenagers (in fact, all ages) sometimes do dumb things.

Dumb things sometimes get you killed.

As a parent (or a loved one) it`s a good idea to tell them `See that dumb thing you did? It`s Dumb, don`t do it any more.`

I caught my daughter riding a motorcycle without a helmet. By My Logic, I was correct in raising a little hell and banning her from motorcycles for a while. By YOUR logic, `it`s just a dumb thing, everybody does it, keep doing it as you don`t deserve to die because of this dumb thing.` Unfortuantely, the pavement doesn`t take into account that is `just a dumb thing`.

@ ompha, If the girl died because she sucked at driving and if the girls parents were blaming the car for her driving skills then yes I would have said to them you should have taught her to drive better or kept her from driving. This is why zimmerman will be killed eventually. Because people like you just cant grasp the concept that maybe trayvon was acting like a thug and got killed because of it.

@yusuksomuch: You`re entitled to your opinion -- that`s not even why I`m talking about. But if you went to the funeral of a friend`s daughter who died in a car accident and told the parents, "yeah, it`s sad, but you should have taught her to drive better,` then you`re a jerk and it doesn`t even matter if you`re right or not.

This is why you suck.

Illinois recently passed a law that allows you to Stand Your Ground against Police.
But they also passed a law that bans cell phone use at emergency scenes. Probably to keep us from videoing the cops abuses.

@ fools, acting that way is going to happen when you are a teenage boy, so do you just chalk it up to "everyone does it" and ignore it, or do you point out to your child that behaving that way can have drastic consequences, even more so now than when I was a teenager. Allowing your son to post that crap and not have any repercussions is the same thing as endorsing the behavior. Those posts were still up after he was killed, The father either saw them and didn`t care or didn`t care to monitor his childs account, but he cares a drat of alot now doesn`t he?

I feel for the guy, his son didn`t deserve to die. But it`s a sad time we live in that we have to have a special law that allows you to protect yourself when you`re attacked. Isn`t it common sense if you attack I will defend myself? Even if Zimmerman did approach and speak to Trayvon, that doesn`t give Trayvon the right to start pummeling George. Bad things happen. Let it go.
