Did the winter version of this as a teen on a double date: snowmobile + rope + old tractor inner tube + snow-covered field with patches of little sticks. In the dark.
Four of us trying to hang on like mad while the rider kept "cracking the whip." Makes me smile to remember that...

"To give you an idea: the driver of the boat tends to take the fact that we`re still on the tube as a challenge."

This.

That`s the fun in it, I`ve had some damned fun times trying to hang onto that thing for dear life, and the same thing goes for when I`m trying to fling people off of it.

I have an anxious mother, who gets it from my grandmother. Everyone else is out for blood though.

DrProfessor, your relatives are obviously much nicer than mine. Mine cheer on the driver every time he loses a rider.

...

Of course, so do I, but hey, we put the fun is dysfunctional.

To give you an idea: the driver of the boat tends to take the fact that we`re still on the tube as a challenge. Our relatives on shore are generally appalled and somewhat frightened for our safety.

Saying "it`s water" isn`t very silly at all, considering if it were concrete I would have died years ago. While if you`re going fast enough, water can be damaging, you have to be going REALLY fast.

This is called tubing. I`ve been doing it since I was about six. I`ve been flung, skittering across the water at times, and at others I`ve jumped off of waves to get roughly 6 feet of air (inadvertently jumping over the other tube behind the boat).

The worst I`ve ever gotten is rugburn from the fabric on the tube, and a sore upper body from riding on my stomach and using my arms to hold myself on. Hitting the water can feel like a decently solid smack, but it`s never even bruised me, and we go pretty damn fast.

"You are aware that water will kill you if you hit it directly and hard enough?"

"depending on how fast they were going". Context, you need to use it. Obvs if you hit the water at 100MPH you`re not going to come out looking very alive. Hundreds of thousands of kids go tubing every year and every one of them falls off and rarely do accidents happen and bones break. The caption is a gross over-exaggeration.

Yeah, in most cases, water will do less damage than concrete - but it can still mess you up!

@Leesah - You are aware that water will kill you if you hit it directly and hard enough? I know that this guy is hardly likely to die... but still, "it`s water" is a bit silly.

It`s water... it might sting a little depending on how fast they were going.
