@Gerry1of1 What part of South Korea is like this?

@ eddy666 - I`ve been there too and I`m sticking with what I said. You liked it, good for you. Mexico City and Puerto Villarta are nice, but you don`t have to go too far to find squaller and people living without plumbing, water or electricity. Same thing in SK, in my view.

Evolution is for the birds. I mean, different skin color is just a figment of our imaginations.

Justahuman, just furthering what I said before because you really twisted my words and I want to clarify. If someone was simply religious, but accepted reality as we know it, even if it counters their religious texts, I`d be fine with it. If they didn`t use their religious texts to harm others, I`d be fine with it. If they didn`t discriminate against others with differing beliefs, I`d be fine with it. But that`s usually not the case. You get parents teaching their kids that evolution is wrong, and that gay people are bad, and that atheists or people of differing religions are evil and shouldn`t be trusted. This is what I`m not okay with, so that`s why I don`t like finding out that religions are growing in other countries. Doesn`t mean I think it should be banned, but it`s just disappointing, because people have a hard time separating their religion from everything else and it harms others overall.

"There are quite a few Koreans who are unhappy with their education system and envy the educational approach of the States."

There are quite a few Americans who are unhappy with their poor education system and envy the approach in other countries, too. And? There are many things I don`t like about the Korean education system, but most of it`s societal that I don`t like, because the extreme amount of pressure on Korean kids often leads to suicide which is awful. But to imply that South Koreans are unintelligent with a poor education system, as chickiesue did, is dishonest.

Justahuman, freedom to believe what you want is fine, I never said they shouldn`t have that. But considering growth in religion, or Christianity in this case, tends to coincide with reduction of intelligence (due to reality contradicting beliefs and thus parents wrongly teaching their children, which happens in the USA too way too frequently than it should) and often counters civil rights movements, I get disappointed when any country shows a rise in religious people.

@Draculya: You`re on to something. Besides, everyone who`s anyone knows that Kim Jong-Il created evolution as a precursor to his invention of the hamburger.

They should let the secular north come and show them the way.

"I read about this elsewhere, and some were claiming this is an exaggeration. On the flip side, haven`t the mouthbreathers down in Texas already done this?"

I don`t know about Texas, but I live in the very, very deep south and evolution is taught in our public schools and has been for a while. You get parents and students who whine about it from time to time, but there`s really nothing they can do about it.

It`s not 200 times faster. Don`t even pretend like you understand technology. The internet in South Korea isn`t even really that much faster, it`s just way more accessible.

@LillianDulci Comparing America`s education to South Korea`s education is a tricky issue. The two have much different approaches. There are quite a few Koreans who are unhappy with their education system and envy the educational approach of the States.

@viscera_pink Probably because people who don`t take Biology until the 12th grade are too dumb to understand evolution anyways.

Asians are great at taking American ideas and exploiting them to the max. Why should creationism be any different?

Yeah Gerry1of1 South Korea has internet in remote areas 200times faster than yours. This is a country of gleaming high rises and futuristic technology. Really if you get the chance you should check it out.

I wouldn`t want to take it away, but is it really `an option of knowledge`?

"I love South Korea in general but one thing I`ve always disliked about it is the growing Christianity :/ "

Yea people having the freedom to believe what they want bothers me too we should put a stop that >_>

This is sad,It would be the same as a country that banned religion,if you take an option of knowledge away from people they cease to be free thinkers.

It`s official: stupidity has become a global pandemic.

Say now, Kim-Jong Il has been doing that in his country for a frikkin LIFETIME!

yeah, i read an article about how S. Korea was banning evolution. Apparently, this girl was found to be born with exceptionally good hearing. So she was brought in front of the Devolution Comity and was officially "Devolved"

@ LillianDulci - Sure it is. Oh, the large cities are okay despite the poverty. I mean they have plumbing. But leave the city and the majority of the country is still living without.

It`s like Mexico only with asian people.

I love South Korea in general but one thing I`ve always disliked about it is the growing Christianity :/ They`ve only recently started becoming more accepting of gay people, but there are still people in South Korea, especially older people, who will say that gay people *don`t exist* there.

@Gerry - Neither America nor South Korea are 3rd world countries. o.o

@chickiesue86 - We already are known as "less intelligent than South Korea", though I suppose it may depend on what you`re counting to measure this (either way, South Korea is near the top). South Korea isn`t some 3rd world, everyone`s living in a shack fighting to survive kind of country. It`s one of the most technologically advanced countries. It`s really sad that South Korea is basically the same as USA`s not so great states in terms to evolution/religion.

temporary setback. physics and biology will not be bullied into submission - nations that embrace science will leave behind those that cling to medieval fantasies so in the end progress will occur. Maybe just not in places where you`d expect it to.
