Seen the same thing except it was a case of beer instead of a gas can.

I saw the headline on the news that read something like "Parents get ticketed for having toddler sit next to gas can."
I was like "So what?" I mean how far is this nanny government going to go?
Then I clicked on the story and saw this pic and said, "Ayup! Full fledged rewangs."

If you have a wreck like this, the kid dies.

If the kid`s in the car seat, and the gas can`s on the floor, and you have a wreck, the gas can bursts into flames, and you both die.

Therefore, I find this to be reasonable.

I see no problem with this. The car is stopped. The kid probably didn`t want to sit in the seat, and the gasoline was on the seat next to him. He moved the gasoline into his car-seat so he could sit in the other seat.
Either that or someone else put it there - either way, I don`t have a problem with this.
If it were taken by another car whilst the car was moving, THEN I would say they`re stupid parents.

I`ve done that with propane tanks. Pull the strap out all the way and lock it in so it won`t move. However, I always make sure my kids are seat belted in properly.

Assumptions galore to be made here. However, my money is on this picture being taken in the wrong manner.

To everybody on here who thinks this is not how it looks: it is. I read it in a news article today, the picture was taken by a traffic cop after the kids mom was pulled over.

It`s still better to put the gas can on the passenger side floor and slide the front seat back to hold it in place.
