Okay, retract. There are earlier mentions of sunspots and I presume you must have been referring to them.

I believe they are sunspots. Cooler areas with high magnetic activity. they move about all over the suns surface, growing and shrinking. most solarflares develop in these spots. some are also visible from earth without a telescope, but i wouldn`t recomend looking for them without proper equipment;)
Fun fact.. if you could place one of these spots anywhere on the nightsky they would be much brighter than most stars. they just look black because of a contrast effect.
