It`s a shrewd political decision, but it`s also common sense. This applies to young people who were minors when they entered. One of the dumbest things we`ve been doing in recent years is deporting and denying citizenship to skilled workers.

I support this as well. I remember some Russian guy that was valedictorian of his high school class was getting deported because his parents came here illegally. He was less than a year old and he didn`t know his home country`s language. This will stop poo like that from happening again. And LOL @ people who are bitching about rules and regulations. "It was their parents that broke the law not them."
Then they should be angry with their parents who knowingly put them in this position, not at the gov`ment. Also, there are steps they can take to apply and go through the system but they never even try to get a legal green card.

Also it sends the message down south "Go ahead, run up here and hide out for a while. Then we`ll reward you".

As with the amnesty Reagan gave, we can expect a new wave to come flooding up here. It`s all well and good for most of you to be soft hearted on this topic, but I`ve had two careers pulled out from under me by illegals taking the jobs I am not tolerant on this topic.

Granting the kid asylum you also grant the parents and other family members to join them here and soak up more of the welfare system. Yeah.

OK, this may sound really mean, but if you are 50-something and had jobs stolen by illegal immigrants, you have probably made some poor life choices.

Second, an employer has a right to hire whoever they want, so if you can`t do the job as well as them or as cheaply as them whose fault is that?

Third, what makes you more entitled to a job then they are? The fact that you were lucky enough to be born here?

Do you hate Apaches as much as white men? They were ragdolling your people for much longer before the white man got here.

"this may sound really mean, but if you are 50-something and had jobs stolen by illegal immigrants, you have probably made some poor life choices."
No, you don`t sound mean. You sound ignorant.

How foolish of me to build a business with work. How aweful I charged enough to maintain a lower middle class living and wasn`t satisfied to live 3 families in a 2 bedroom apartment like illegals do. How terrible I paid taxes on my income unlike illegal laborers.

Other people who made poor life choises are plumbers, house painters, truck drivers, carpenters, landscapers, etc etc etc They also were foolish enough to let illegals undermine their lives and steal their jobs.

I don`t mind the competition. I mind that they drive the standard of living down wherever they go. Maybe 12 living in a 1 bedroom apt. is acceptable to them, not me.

But you can go ahead and blame the people illegals steal from. That makes sense.

HolyGod, "aren`t you on unemployment? Isn`t that a "welfare"? Hypocrite much?"
No, I am not on unemployment. I do not receive any government assistance at all. I`m unemployed with no income. So if the implication was that I`m soaking up services, the answer is "no, I`m not."

I know everyone will claim I`m a racist, but it`s not that. {I am but it`s not the reason.} Illegal labor undermines the standard of living everywhere they show up. Loss of jobs and revenue while increases in welfare services costs.

Amnesty in the 80s did not work obviously because here we are again, with the same problem all over again.

The fact is that poor mexicans can`t follow the rules and become American citizens. That is why they are forced to come here illegally.

Well where do you draw the line? Is your standard of living a 3 bedroom house and a two year old car? What if an American comes along doing your job for less because their standard of living is a 2 bedroom apartment and a 5 year old car? What if someone comes along who is ok taking the bus and living with their parents? Are they not allowed to charge what they see fit?

Here is an idea. Make them legal. Then they would be able to charge minimum wage at least and pay taxes on it. As it is now they are forced to drive the cost of living down because it is the only way they can get work.

I seem to remember a post where you said you were on unemployment and still paid taxes countering something about lower income people not paying taxes. I may be misremembering. However if you are unemployed and therefore not paying income taxes then your very existence is soaking up services. Every day you use public services like roads and police without paying for them.

If he did anything, it was with self-serving political thinking and by doing and end-run around the congress (you know, the legislative branch?) and by breaking the law.

Obama even admitted previously that he was not allowed to do this. Now that it`s an election year he`s going to try anyway. Funny how this only became `A Priority` in an election year, ain`t it?

HolyGod, I draw the line at not rewarding people for breaking the law. What other law do we have that, if you successfully break it long enough we`ll make it legal for you?

Wherever the illegals go the standard of living drops as salaries do. With this comes increases in welfare services without additional taxes to cover it. With it comes higher crime rates and then the gangs move in.

Example: Omaha Nebraska. In the 80s a job in meat packing paid $17 per hour. Illegals came in and now it`s minimum wage if you`re legal, less if you`re illegal. Crime`s shot up with squalor living around the slaughterhouses and gangs have their drive-by-shooting parties.

They take jobs from people who actually have a right to be here. They undermine the everyones standard of living. They increase crime wherever they go. How is any of this a good idea for the country?

I agree with Gerry here. What is difficult about the idea of illegal in this instance. They are breaking the law and nothing happens to them and in the end they get rewarded. Of course I shouldn`t be calling them illegals in the first place because it isn`t PC. I should be calling them displaced workers or some such nonsense.

" doing and end-run around the congress"

    From a May, 2012 article:

"From the time of the invention of the cloture rule, during World War I, until the end of the Reagan administration, there were a total of 385 cloture motions filed. That`s a span of about 70 years. But in the five and a half years since Republicans lost control of the Senate after the 2006 elections, there have been 359 cloture motions filed.

In fact, today`s cloture vote was on the 83rd cloture motion filed in the 112th Congress. That`s the third all-time highest number of cloture motions ever filed, and it`s only May. And what two Congresses are the only ones ever to see more cloture motions filed? Well, it`s the last two: the 110th and 111th. The two immediately following the Republicans` loss of control of the chamber."

    Gee I wonder why?

Obama can`t do this, I`m betting a lawsuit is already being prepared and it`ll likely be stopped with an injunction until it goes to court.

Barry is doing this for votes, it won`t be allowed because congress sets immigration policy, not him. This is blatant pandering and he should be impeached for it.

"now it`s minimum wage if you`re legal, less if you`re illegal"

Well shame on the meat packing companies for not paying their employees a liveable wage in an attempt to raise profits. I`d say that is the problem. Not the people being exploited.

What you are saying is like blaming the worker in china because you can`t make a tablet that can compete with apple or a shoe that can compete with nike.

"people who actually have a right to be here"

What gives you the right? Just because you were born here? If you were trying to become a citizen you`d probably be rejected. So just cause you were lucky enough to be born here you think you have more rights than another person? Every human being on this planet has the right to try to live the best life they can.

This is really simple moving forward.

    1. Make the immigration process quick and inexpensive for anyone wanting to come to this country, as long as they are willing to pass background checks, etc.
    2. Monitor them for 3 years like parole to ensure they are being productive members of society.
    3. Make illegal immigration a much harsher punishment, and increase border security.

Then you don`t have illegals. You don`t have people working for super low wages and driving living down. You don`t have people not paying taxes.

I call total and complete BS on the Title. What Obama did today is just a stop gap. The DREAM Act still needs to be passed.:

"Under the new policy, people younger than 30 who came to the United States before the age of 16, pose no criminal or security threat, and were successful students or served in the military can get a two-year deferral."

This will only affect about 800,000 people.

The reason they all sound identical is because they are slaves to opinion media. Fox News, Conservative radio, breitbart.com... All day long they hear the same talking points until they are burned into their heads. opinion media turns people into angry parrots.

The people into this on the left are no better. MSNBC, Liberal radio, MediMatters.org, CrooksandLiars.com...
They turn them also into angry parrots. When a Conservative becomes President again you will see the anger on the Left ramp back up. Crazy swings both ways.

HolyGod - I agree with your 3 step plan. But there is one problem with it. We already have all those steps in place now. But the Feds refuse to enforce them. Corporations, which own the politicians, want the cheep labor and they don`t care how it damages the country long term.

If you think there currently exists an immigration process that is quick and inexpensive for anyone wanting to come to this country, I can only assume you don`t have a clue what that process actually entails and how difficult it actually is for a poor Mexican.

Well, Obama secured the hispanic vote in November, that`s all he really was after anyway.

Okay. I`m for stronger borders (if we have to have them at all), but this is about kids who were brought here before they were 16. And it`s just a stay of deportation and granting them a 2 year green card. It`s a temporary work permit. If they`re smart, they`ll earn citizenship in the time they have.

I`ve had my job taken away by outsourcing before. I`m almost 29 and I`ve been laid off 3 times. The economy sucks sometimes. That doesn`t mean I hate Indians. They, just like Mexican immigrants, are just looking for work to help themselves and their family. Can you blame them? At the least, don`t punish their kids who had nothing to do with it.

Anyway, right now immigration from Mexico is basically dead. We`re actually losing more people back to Mexico than are coming here.

@jamie76, No, I didn`t say the same things about Bush, because he was a completely different kind of f***up. He did plenty of stuff that totally sucked dead donkey dicks: NCLB, steel tarriffs, prescription drugs, McCain-Feingold, and TARP, to name just the highlights, and his chicken$#!+ refusal to pardon Scooter Libby was a national disgrace.

So, now that I`ve proven you wrong, I don`t suppose there`s any chance that you`ll go away and not come back, is there? Trust me, you wouldn`t be missed by anyone, even the lefties. You`re nothing but an insignificant little turd.

Kids that are brought into this country have no control over it. Their parents bring them in and they grow up learning english and living in america. I have friends that have this problem and they need the dream act. without it they are sent back to a country where they don`t speak the language and have nothing.

@HolyGod I agree with you, but I also agree with Gerry. I`ve seen first hand how messed up the immigration system is, and how hard it is to legally immigrate or even get legal permission to work here. However, I don`t think this is the right legislation. Sure, it provides a solution to the problem, but that doesn`t mean it`s a good idea. This legislation is almost putting a loophole in the law. That just doesn`t sit well with me. Also, I don`t care if this is legal for Obama to do or not, I feel like it`s the job for congress. If Obama had every right to do this, then I don`t blame him, I blame the system. This shouldn`t be the president`s business.

That`s because we have an immigration policy that basically says if you`re white- or yellow-skinned and well-educated, go to the back of the line and wait; however, if you`re brown-skinned and illiterate, HEY, THE BACK DOOR`S WIDE OPEN! STEP RIGHT UP AND COME ON IN!!!

What the President did was instructed the Justice Department to not actively pursue deportation of a certain group of people in favor of working on more important things (they have a huge backlog of other deportations). To quote a Justice Department official I heard on the radio today, "just as the President can set high priorities, he can set low priorities."

Eddy: If you think Fox News doesn`t have a weekly list of talking points sent from HQ, you`re in denial. Not only is it obvious, it`s been documented.

Ditto, you can`t catch`em all. Some crimes are more serious than others. Others the effort involved is far too impractical. Take for example the $102 million Medicare fraud program which only nets $20 million.

No one is saying they aren`t nice people. I think Gerry`s comments sum up pretty nicely what people`s problems with it are. Around where I live most of the illegal immigrants open up Mexican restaurants or work some kind of physical job, so it doesn`t really bother me. However, I`m sure if one of their `neighborhoods` popped up next to where I live, my opinion might change. This might not be true for all areas, but where I live, they live in this area with a few trailers and A LOT of illegal immigrants.

There`s another one. I don`t understand why you worship and praise Obama so much. He`s a sleazy politician. He probably doesn`t even understand things like `love`. We`ve allowed our past 2 presidents to get away with some pretty heavy lying, and people like you seem intent on letting it happen over and over again.

And I understand that, but it`s not fair to punish their kids like we`ve been doing. Also, the whole situation is kind of a Catch 22. Imagine if we deported all illegals. Food prices would go insanely high. That wouldn`t just harm you and me personally; that would harm the whole economy. It`s not feasible to just kick everyone out.

@FoolsPrussia No reasonable person is suggesting we kick ALL of them out. I honestly don`t know a good solution to the problem. My problem with this piece of legislation is that, kids or not, it creates a loophole for illegal immigration. Sure, I don`t want to punish kids that didn`t really have any choice in the matter, and I don`t think that we should, but I think we should approach the problem in a different way than granting outright immunity for every case.

Like it or not illegal immigration is actually good for business. It means more output, lower prices, and room for more man hours else where.
