    My science side was screaming, That is a caterpillar egg you fool! But it was laid by a butterfly so it is a butterfly egg. Which would explain why it is so beautiful.

    The most amazing part for me is that in order to take an image with a SEM (like this) the object needs to be coated in metal, but the coating doesn`t seem to skew the object`s shape at all.

    it is usually a fine layer of gold powder for SEM
