Considering that the Royal Family are basically costume characters in a tourist attraction, this is a win.

The rain will put them out. It is, of course, raining here in England.

John Lydon was trolling. He did it well enough to get fame and money from it and he didn`t even have to make up lyrics that made sense. IAB`s business model works much the same way - more trolling means more views and more views means more ad money.

@SCfan Not so sure, any flags with stars on are veering into somewhat girly territory, and that`s not what you want in a flag. Unless that flag belongs to a slaveocracy and you want to make it look silly.

Tsk, Gerry. We weren`t saved by you, merely given a slight kick up the arse. If anyone saved anybody it was the Russians. In regards to your assessment of whether the U.S involvement in the Second World War was "worth it", I would have to concur. Nevertheless, there is the flip side that we loan you many excellent English actors who play Americans, like Idris Elba and Damien Lewis.

Actually I think we kinda *did* save England during WW2. The RAF was making a brave go of it to the point of overuse of their pilots, I`ve read they`d literally fall asleep in their breakfasts before going out on yet another bombing mission. And Churchhill said he, "Slept better the night after Pearl Harbor than ever I did before."

Which is not to take anything away from the English of course, anybody who can withstand hellacious bombing in London and dutifully, nonchalantly, get right back up the next day to go fight Nazis is A-OK in my book.

Actually I think we kinda *did* save England during WW2.

Kinda, probably. Things were decidedly ropey and the USA added a lot of power to the allied side. Maybe the allies would have won anyway, maybe not, and even if they did then the UK would have been right up against the USSR immediately afterwards. That probably wouldn`t have ended well.

Although it cost us plenty. The UK bought USA help in WW2 and paid through the nose for it. The value of the patents alone would be enough to consider buying a small country. Then there`s the land. The resources. The cash. The political influence.

Cheaper than losing to either the Nazis or the USSR under Stalin, though.

Of course, the USA was also saving itself. The people in charge there had a good understanding of the situation and knew it was better to fight on someone else`s land beside allies than in the USA without any a few years later.

I guess what I`m saying overall is, US/UK working together was/is pretty freaking amazing, we made a great team. That kind of camaraderie flows through the generations and gives us no good reason to spat at each other today.

Cool no? (Stalin is obligatory, I`m afraid).

V Hey, at least then we got to see Michael Caine in "Battle of Britain", "Zulu" ect. :-X (Oh I remember my joke from yesterday alright, the good thing is, I was joking)! ;-)

That`s easy - they`re as ignorant as you are and, like you, make things up and pretend they`re real. They`ve made up a fictional history of the last thousand years, which is an achievement of sorts.

Back in reality, England and Scotland invaded each other and interfered in each other`s affairs for centuries. It was even going on before England or Scotland existed, with the various smaller countries that existed beforehand. The English and Scottish nobility and royalty were related for most of the time anyway - why do you think a Scottish king inherited the English throne? Did you even know that happened? Do you know where the Scotti for whom Scotland is named came from (free clue - it wasn`t Scotland).

@QueenZira I think you`re referring to the Battle of Britain which petered out around September 1940- that`s when things were most dicey for Britain. Then Hitler bombed British cities solidly for a few months before redeploying his air force towards the U.S.S.R in preparation for June 21st, 1941. It was July the 4th, 1942 when U.S airforce launched their first raid in Europe- not exactly the cavalry riding in to relieve our knackered pilots. However, it can be quite reasonably argued that Britain saved the U.S by not surrendering and providing a nice convenient base for troops and materiel. Had this not existed, Europe could not have been touched by America and Hitler would have gotten around to launching long range bombers and intercontinental missiles at her.

@QueenZira but yes, I take your point that it was grand how the big three of Stalin, FDR and Churchill could work together, especially given the political divides between each. As it was, Churchill was sidelined towards the end of the war because Stalin and FDR knew that Britain as a superpower was waning and she couldn`t defend her empire. That and that she was bankrupt from the war. World War Two was the best thing that happened to the United States, however.

At least they got the flag the right way up. (At the top left it`s thick white stripe then thin red). Hanging it up the other way used to be a sign of distress to those in the know.

    It`s probably already been covered, but it`s a Union Flag. It`s only a `Jack` if it`s on a boat/ship.

But who really cares eh? Sterling work Ma`am.
