To me personally it doesn`t matter if being gay is a choice or genetic but In recent years, evidence has accumulated that a homosexual orientation is inherited. Study of family history reveals that homosexual men have more homosexuals in their family tree than do heterosexuals. However this is true only of ancestors that can be traced through the mother`s side of the family and does not apply to paternal ancestors. The fact that most animal species (including octopi and hedgehogs) also display a proportion of homosexual orientations suggests it is a totally natural variation . Having worked in Long day care for many years with ages 6 weeks to 6 years I can honestly say I have observed "gay" children (who I have observed grow into gay adults ). I hardly think a 4 year old is capable of making such a choice !. Clearly they were born that way. They have the right to be who they are and to be respected .I can`t understand why some people discriminate against homosexuality !!!

you aren`t born gay, it`s a lifestyle choice. they just tell themselves they were born that way to help them sleep at night.

Markust123, I wasn`t referring to the guy with the sign, I was commenting on the back-and-forth about how/why people are gay. I can see, though, how you thought I was talking about the activist, especially since I used the phrase, "Ax to grind." Dumb choice of words.
People in prison turn gay. Not my entire argument, but my point is you are not born gay.
You appear to be arguing that everyone is born bisexual.

Is that what you meant?

Homosexual sex in prison often isn`t a matter of choice (for the victims) or much to do with sex (for the rapists). Also, obviously, it`s a very warped environment and has little bearing on normal life.
I guess my point is just that a "gay gene" is likely not a lightswitch, but again, I assume you were simplifying on purpose.
Obviously I was, since I started by writing this:
Even in the impossibly simple case of homosexuality being caused by a variation of a single gene
Which makes it clear that I was presenting an impossibly over-simplified scenario on purpose to show that the argument I was countering (that homosexuality can`t possibly be genetic because if it was it would have died out ages ago) would be invalid even in the simplest possible scenario, even one which is too simple to be possible.

Colors: What?
Do you have sources saying that they claim to actually BE homosexuality?
NO
They do it because they have nothing else to drat.
And because of the power play it represents within the prison communities, I think.
I`d "love" to hear your other arguments.

What do you say about homosexuality within 100`s of other mammal species as well? Are you calling them liars?

@Angillion: A very gross simplification of basic Mendelian genetics, but I suppose that was your point. If there were genetic cause then likely it would be multiple gene interaction, not to mention linking and the multitude of other factors i.e. epigenetic such as DNA methylation or histone acetylation etc.

I guess my point is just that a "gay gene" is likely not a lightswitch, but again, I assume you were simplifying on purpose.

"People in prison turn gay. Not my entire argument, but my point is you are not born gay."

No, people are horny in jail and they are generally stuck with people of the same gender. That`s why they end up having gay sex, which is separate from actually being gay.

@SmagBoy1 "The LGBT community is acting in defense. Not offense. The difference is pretty extraordinary and one I hope you`ll consider."

That is why it is so laughable that the people pushing these bigoted ideas are now trying to pretend that they are the victim when they suddenly find the tides turning and people are finally seeing them for what they are. Sorry bigots you don`t get to be the victim.

Actually, XPrez, the sign is a defensive response to, among other things, the legislation (state and federal) actively discriminating against the LGBT community. Actively. Legislation is not passive and it has been unbelievably one-sided and actively ANTI-gay of late. Don`t, for a second, act like one can just "be gay" and not make it an event if one wants even basic legal and legislative equality. The LGBT community is acting in defense. Not offense. The difference is pretty extraordinary and one I hope you`ll consider.

You indicated "sexual attachment to mother." That is Freudian. Some of his conclusions have been discredited as "too colored by his own psyche," there in being my point:
The human psyche does not consistently `bell-curve.`

By age 5, I not only knew that I liked girls, I had begun developing specific taste (dimples and ponytails.)

BTW, being born into an environment where there are people that have a belief does not equate being born with that same belief. Your wording seems like you believe that latter.

I`m not talking about emotional attraction or anything like that. I`m only talking sexual attraction. I don`t like gay porn either. I think it`s gross. There are also some types of women that I don`t find attractive. However, why do you think buttsex is so popular in jail?

"Could also work: "If homosexuality is a choice than religion is something you`re born with.""

If a devout religious couple have a baby, and that baby is stolen from the hospital, the baby will be whatever religion it is raised. But if that baby is gay no matter how they are raised they will still be gay.

In short, be gay. Why does it have to be an event?

eddy, I suspect that is some outdated Freudian logic. I too, had both interest and preference LONG BEFORE that age.

In addition, it was very weird when I began to unlearn religion in favor of logic.
The first weirdness being having to replace my "moral compass" with a code of ethics.
The second, recognizing the effects and apologizing for forcing my values on friends.

You`re making assumptions and speaking in absolutes based, presumably, solely on your own personal experience. I can t ell you I spent preschool chasing girls before I even knew what sex was. There was an attraction well before puberty.

While I have no problem with homosexuality or bisexuality I can tell you I personally have no physical response or attraction to men. I`ve watched gay porn before and it made me a little nauseous. That seems like a very physical reaction, not something that was simply a societally influenced choice.

Pick a christian, any christian. Now imagine a scenario where that christian is born into a tribe that has never been reached by the outside world. Still think that person would be a christian? If you do, you`re a dumbass. And according to the bible, he`d be going to hell for it. Your god is a cruel god, and he deserves death.

Not to equate homosexuality with diseases, but just hear me out...inherited disease is unequivocally harmful to you, and it still manages to be passed down the generations. Even diseases that kill you before you hit reproductive age, and effectively prevent you from reproducing. Gay people are still, at least, technically capable of reproducing...but again, they don`t have to for a gay gene to still survive within our population.

@thatjimguy Yes. Humans aren`t born with sexual preference because their sexual desires don`t really exist until puberty. Until puberty, the only sexual thoughts people have is about drating their mother.

Here a question...is anyone NOT born gay?
0
Reply
Male 12,365

Simple example:

A has one hetero variant and one homo variant - they`re hetero.

B has two hetero variants - they`re hetero.

A and B have a child, C. C inherits the homo variant from A and the hetero variant from B - they`re hetero.

D also one homo variant and one hetero variant - they`re hetero.

C and D have a child, E, who inherits the hetero variant from C and the homo variant from D - they`re hetero.

C and D have another child, F, who inherits the homo variant from both of of them - F is homo. So the variant dies out in that generation...but it doesn`t, because E carries it.
You can`t be born gay...think about it. If gayness was hereditary, it would have died out centuries ago.
You didn`t think that through, which means you`ve made yourself look silly by telling everyone else to think about it. Physician, heal thyself!

Even in the impossibly simple case of homosexuality being caused by a variation of a single gene, it would still be very simple for it to have remained in the gene pool for any amount of time. All it would take is for the other variants of the gene to be dominant relative to it.

You aren`t born gay or straight. You are born bisexual. Every single person who claims to be either straight or gay is just a closet bi, myself included. Humanity is just a bunch of horny motherdraters that would stick anything up their cooch or stick their wanger in anything. The only reason most people are straight is because that is the most natural attraction due to the whole reproductive thing, and because that is what is and has been culturally correct.

@aRTCy: we didn`t evolve straight nor do we evolve gay. if anything, being gay can be described as an hormonal imbalance. the consensus isn`t clear but being gay, or doing what is found to be as a homosexual activity, has been around as far back as our own knowledge of civilization. so, i conclude that society as a whole makes you gay and we should go frolic in the forests!

So the way you`re brain functions, gay people can only be born gay if they are born to gay parents? So blondes are only born to blonde parents? Tall people are only born to tall parents? Diabetics are only born to diabetic parents? Look at it this way, you are mentally retarded, that doesn`t mean both your parents have to be.
