That is quite the uninformed caption.

Before anyone has a go: I dont care about the exodus or anything that connects with anything remotely related to religion other than that its "interesting" to know.

the Egyptians were HARD CORE when it came to not writing down their failings. They kept recordings of everything, that is true. Except for such unimportant things as battle losses, famine, social distress and conflict that put the pharao in a bad light.

In very simple language: If Pharao dont like, it`s not going on the wall.

Such an embarrassment to the ruling powers as losing out on the majority of their working force to a growling bearded guy without shoes, is one of the things that history was not allowed to recall. Since like any good despot through history would say: Write that down and ill murder everyone you know

Much like the bible that was written down beteen 80-200 AD. the most epic hearsay novel in the history of writte

...so you choose to trust one jewish text that has as much truth as it has fiction (and in some case boldfaced lies), instead of the writings of an entire culture to say whether or not something happened?

That`s not how history and anthropology works guys, if the Rape of Nanjing is known today, is because somewhere within the culture someone made it their task to write about it. Doesn`t mean it didn`t happen, it means that since the entire egyptian culture seems to have missed the whole series of extraordinary events described in the bible regarding their involvement with the jews, then it`s very likely it never happened.

Erm, so because the Egyptians recorded SOME unflattering events, they must have recorded ALL unflattering events, and therefore any uncorroborated unflattering events never happened? By that logic, because Japan recorded SOME unflattering events about WWII, but they NEVER MENTION the Rape of Nanjing, that means that the Rape of Nanjing never happened.

Where`s this derogatory post some people are talking about?

Is there so very little prejudice against Jews that people have to clutch at the vaguest hint of a shadow of a straw of prejudice to complain about because there`s nothing more substantial?

An early bronze age story from the dawn of civilisation, probably retold numerous times before being written down, is unlikely to be a solid, reliable history if there`s no supporting evidence for it.

Oh no! I am being derogatory towards everyone everywhere! Woe is me!

Bollocks.

@AvatarJohn - Learn you ACTUAL history. The `Old Testament` as some would refer to it, detailing the Exodus was written during the Diaspora period after the destruction of the First Temple (Circa 600BCE). If the Passover/Exodus happened, it would have occurred in Circa 1400BCE. That`s a 8,000 year difference! That`s four times as long since the time between Christ`s life and today. You really think that`s accurate?

@AvatarJohn,

That Jewish book you are refering to is not in any way shape or form regarded as a history book accurately describing the history of the time any more than Homers Iliad would be. So with your logic to question the history of the Iliad would be to call the Greeks liars. You are being ridiculous.

I read something a few years ago that reckoned there was stuff- for a while the egyptians worshipped the Aten- became mono-theistic. There were also records that indicated there were Iraelites with power in a certain part of Egypt for a while. Can`t for the life of me remember the details- but the exodus is a folk story- an account of an event made excitingg for retelling. There was an eruption or somethings and they had records- the results of the eruption could be the source of the plagues but in the wrong order etc.. interesting.

By the way, so far today I`ve seen a disturbing trend developing on IAB:

1) Jews are penny-pinching greedy non-nice individuals who think penny pyramids are porn.
2) Jews are liars who made up Exodus.

Did the neo-Nazi`s take over the site today or what? Next up: Those aren`t gas chambers, they`re showers! Now quit your complaining and breath deeply.

Um, just pointing out the obvious, but regardless of what the Egyptians did or did not keep records on, I`m pretty sure the Jews kept a pretty extensive record on this time period. In fact, they even wrote a book about it. Huh, what do you know, you even have a picture of said book right there! QED.

I believe this is untrue. Ancient Egyptians had a nack of not recording "bad events" or such since that would soil the name of the Pharaoh.
i may be wrong tho, and im not a bible believer.

What about that burden of proof video that was posted about a week ago. If someone makes a claim, don`t they have the burden of proof. The more grand or outrageous the claim, the more burdened they are to produce the proof.

"Maybe they were just a little preoccupied with:

1. The loss of most of their slave labor.
2. Burying the first born male of every household.
3. Cleaning up after the 9 other plagues.
4. Figuring out what to eat and drink as the locusts probably ate all the crops, and the water was contaminated.
"

So if all this HAPPENED, why the hell would you want to worship the god that caused it? Funny how your god killed so many more people than Satan ever has...

But you keep on preachin....Yeah keep on doing it...

The Egyptians erased a lot of their history too, they even erased pharaohs they didn`t like and recorded wars they lost into victories. So it`s no wonder the ancient Egyptians did not want to record such events in their history.

There`s actually evidence that Egyptians changed records to cast events in a more flattering light. Ramses II changed documentation of an entire battle to depict his epic victory despite the fact that he barely made it out with his life. This is known because both histories exist, but who`s to say how many records have been altered by self-edifying pharaohs and leaders?

I wouldn`t necessarily say that, Crabes.

For example, almost every religion has a flood story.
Are you to tell me that no flood of cataclysmic proportions has ever happened?
Don`t read that as "God flooded the entire world", or "the entire world got flooded", or anything similar, but to say that the "skeleton"s of the stories are false is asinine

Actually, the ancient Egyptians are notorious for eradicating / erasing people and events from their history, especially if it shined an unflattering light upon them.

Hatshepsut`s existence was systematically erased after her death; Some years after her death Thutmose ordered Hatshepsut`s monuments torn down and her name erased from all records throughout Egypt. Similarly, Akhenaton ideas caused a religious revolution in ancient Egypt, and future kings would try to erase all records of him. Akhenaton`s story has only recently been reconstructed. Strange in his art, his beliefs, and even his body, the king who was made to disappear has been found again.

Ergo, no record of the Hebrews in Egypt or their exodus is not conclusive proof they were not there.

The only eye-brow raising historical events Christians are required to believe, through the Creeds, are the Virgin Birth and the Resurrection of Jesus. Pretty much everything else is open to interpretation.

@Smutleybutt: That`s how things were in general back then. If the Jews SAY they were in Egypt at that time, then that`s how it would go. Other `tribes` are also mentioned as being `slaves` in the Bible and in Egyptian records...

OH YES! It never says they "built the pyramids" in the Bible! lolz! That is true! The Jews made bricks for another tribe which made houses for other workers. It doesn`t say what everyone else was working on...

Not true. I and many others attack Islam :-)
But as far as the general polation, no one attacks Buddhists or Jews because they are not trying to pass laws that everyone else has to obey. I don`t know of a single Buddhist pushing for a constitutional ammendment on anything, just the christians against gay marriage. It`s not the Jewish League pushing Creationism in schools, it`s the christians.

So we push back.

Oy Vey!
"Slaves" in those days could also be called "indentured servants" if a large group was involved.
The Jews, along with dozens of other `hill tribes` agreed to build stuff for Egypt in exchange for food, shelter and the Egyptian army not killing them. They were free to be Jews, but not free to wander off before the task was complete.
THAT is one of many reasons why the "bricks and straw" part of the story is very important!
Readers of PK Dick may recognize that...

The Hebrews were slaves in Egypt, and the evidence other than the Torah is a set of Egyptian columns boosting about a pharaoh`s collection of enslaved peoples. Note that the ancient Egyptians didn`t think owning slaves was "unflattering", quite the opposite.

I find it humorous that people spend so much time trying to convince others that christianity is bullpoo and always go on about how dogmatic christians are for shoving their beliefs down other people`s throats while these same people constantly impose their reasoning. It is sort of the same thing, don`t ya think? It also strikes me odd that christianity is the only religion anyone attacks. Why not scour the interenet for tidbits of fallacy about hinduism or islam or taoism? If you don`t believe it, good for you, if you do believe it, good for you.
Wait a sec....then who built the pyramids? I`ve always been taught that it was the Jews, as the slaves of the neighboring Egyptians.
Then you`ve been taught fiction. Bad fiction.

The pyramids were built primarily by free Egyptians. Mainly farmers during the times of the year when no farm work could be done, soldiers and skilled artisans for the work needing that skill. Records remain (historical and archaeological) of the facilities and resources for the workers and they show that it was considered quite high status work, which isn`t surprising for something of such great religious and cultural importance.

As far as I`m aware, very few Egyptian documents survive from the time, so to say that they "kept records on everything" is just plain wrong. There is, however, still little to no evidence supporting Exodus. Furthermore, the time frame provided makes it impossible for the Pharaoh supposedly responsible to have been there. It`s something like 300 years out one way or another.
