First part with Sagan = not atheism, only questions.

Questioning is healthy, and encouraged. The answers strengthen faith.

I wish my fellow believers would stay out of other peoples lives. I don`t know where they find the time and energy to be so nosy. I`ll belief what I want and you belief or don`t belief what you want.

Auburn, I admit that Sagan was not speaking directly about atheism at that particular time, but the attitudes and themes of his speech there are what many of us atheists feel. So it may not be what he meant, but it does apply. [:

    Didn`t watch.

There`s nothing to "understand" about atheism. It`s simple.

I don`t want to start a religious war here, but I have to call bullpoo. Those questions were in fact the questions an atheist would ask. You say there is a god, we say "well then where did he come from".

And secondly, questioning is not encouraged by any religious sect. Let`s take this example, 1000 years ago, what caused disease? Evil spirits and bad blood. Do you think the world could be round? No it`s flat, stone that man to death. Today... Hey have you heard of this thing called evolution? NO NO NO, god did it. It was all god, and your evolution is just a theory! .. Did you know that viruses and bacteria are still just a theory for why you get sick? Stop your black magic mind trickery, my faith tells me you`re wrong! ... go ahead.. ask your church if they`ll give some atheist ideas a chance, and let me know wha

    AJ

Yeah it did actually. He used `Occums razor` to show that the creation of the universe does not necessarily need a god which is a response the the theistic claim that the creation needs a creator.

Questions to which, as Sagan made clear, god is not a satsfactory answer.

Interesting that the video chose thinkers who are generally not regarded as confrontational (OK, except Harris). You will have your work cut out for you if want to portray Sagan and Attenborough as strident fundamentalists.

They need a `complete idiots guide` because you`d have to be a `complete idiot` to not believe there is a God.

Guides aren`t made for those that already know the subject. So the "The Complete Idiots Guide To Atheism" would be for those that are NOT Atheists. So thank you, CrakrJak, for proving that there are complete idiots that need an understanding of Atheism.

Took the words right out of my mo--keyboard, ChefStedman. You signed up to make that response and it was well worth it!

A lot of people get frustrated by these videos, and end up trying to insult anything about the `enemy` rather than create a good argument...which is a sure fire way to tell when someone is losing an argument...Remember as a kid how childish it was when you made a good point and your victim just says "yeah well you smell!". That is essentially what CrakrJak is doing, and I find that hilarious

"I`ll belief what I want and you belief or don`t belief what you want."

Translation: "I agree not to expose the lies you believe in if you agree not to expose the lies I believe in."

A very attractive proposition for anyone interested in protecting their beliefs from scrutiny. But seeing as I don`t value beliefs that aren`t true, I have nothing to lose by subjecting my beliefs to critical examination. So, no thanks.

Ah yes Crakrjak. I guess that makes many of us complete idiots then (myself included). And among people who are religious and follow god/s, I presume you specifically mean YOUR God.

Ah, Crakrjak, if only you knew how many times I came close to nominating you as Moderator on this site, given the great contibution you make through comments and content. And yet each time you disappoint me with utter bollocks like this.

davymid: If madest can get away with the trolls he`s committed in the past and remain a mod, up until recently, then your few complaints about the rare troll that I commit is rather hypocritical.

Let`s just call it a bit of revenge for all the anti-Christian and anti-conservative posts IAB routinely posts.

I was for sure my comment was such an old joke, about `idiot guides`, that people would understand for what it was, a joke.

But nope, people like you took it seriously. Which indicates just how knee-jerk reactionary atheists are to any sort of joke against them.

However, when you atheists troll Christians and get backlash for it. You tell us that we can`t take a joke.

Perhaps it would be better that IAB quit trolling Christians and not risk getting their beloved atheists revenge trolled and then get all butthurt about it when it happens to them.

    Just a thought.

Crakr: It`s not that I can`t take a joke. I`ve got thick skin when it comes to humor. My problem is, as a joke, it really doesn`t have much of a punchline. It`s about as funny as oatmeal - it`s not really offensive, but it`s not really funny either.

Irish: It`s likely a contextual problem for you. If it had been a joke about something you didn`t like you`d have likely found it to be funny.

Everyone has bias comedy wise, it`s nothing new. That`s why some jokes do better in front of a live audience than they do typed out on the internet.
