Submitted by: 5cats 4 years ago

Combined with 414-0 in the house, worst defeat ever. Obama wanted $6.4 trillion in new debt.

Neither party`s budgets are appropriate. Both budgets are the result of career politician asshats running the country. The Republicans appease the rich to keep getting their allowance from the PACs so that they can ensure they have money in their war chests next time they come up for elections. They cut spending and increase subsidies to the rich. The Democrats try to appease the very poor and to a small degree keep some of the very rich on their side because while the poor peoples` votes do count, the money you can get from a PAC can bring in a lot of middle class votes as well. They increase entitlement spending. As long as there aren`t term limits imposed on Congress the career politicians will continue to do what is in their own best interest for their next election and be damned with the rest of the country. It`s job security and it`s just common sense.

tl;dr
Both parties suck.

@kain1 & collegbound: The facts in the budget were condensed, the budget paper itself was unchanged.
At least the Repubs LET PEOPLE READ IT!!! Unlike... ObamaCare! "We have to pass the bill to see what`s in it" - N Pelosi

And they challenged the Dems to find ONE mistake in the numbers, no one could.

AND AND not one sinle Democrat in EITHER House or Senate voted for it. 6.8 TRILLION in NEW spending = poison, but that`s what Obama wants!

The Repubs are presenting TWO possible budgets, hard to say if they`ll pass since the Dems still control the Senate, eh?

Wow this is stupid.. tremendously stupid.. And a non-story.. This is just politicised bullcrap.. The ONLY point of this charade is so right wing journalists get to write an article titled "Obama budget defeated 99-0 in Senate".. They omitted almost 2000 pages of text for F`s sake!.. Of course noone voted for it!.. How is this a relevant story ?!..

I-A-B, this is a fail..

FoolsPrussia: Then maybe you conservatives can stop complaining about a liberal bias on this site.

When it`s a 1:1 ration of liberal/conservative agenda, then I`ll stop complaining. Until then...

GOP budget proposal looks like this:

1. increase taxes on the middle class by doing away with tax credits they now recieve.

2. cut funding to the bone on programs for the elderly and the poor, such as SSN, Medicade and Medicare.

3. cut taxes even more for the wealthy.

4. raise college loan rates to unaffordable rates.

5. INCREASE defense spending (gotta fund their new war with Iran somehow)

6. borrow more money from China to pay for No. 5.

and 5Cats, as tempted as you are to respond to this why don`t you pay attention to your own country for awhile.

I don`t care and no one else cares that you "live right next door".

you are NOT one of us, you never will be, your opinion on what is happening in OUR country means jack.

you are like the kid that keeps following the cool kids around begging to be one of them despite the fact that they think you are a joke and only keep you around

I am not an Obama supporter but this repubs were running nothing more than a stupid stunt with this.

they took his proposal, worked it over in their own fashion and then submitted it...of course the Dems voted against it.

the GOP basically want us to believe that they "faithfully" represented his budget....

bwwhahahahahahahahah

sure, I believe it, totally, no way they would try to make this a political stunt, nah, never...

Although one of them is showing it will come up on the 20th, the last time an item (about economics) was cut & didn`t get posted...
@insane_ai: Where was this anger when the Dems, with majorities in BOTH houses, FAILED to produce a budget for 2 YEARS?
@5Cats and anyone else who is interested:
My frustrations have been in the email inboxes and voice mail of Betty Sutton, Rob Portwood, Sherrod Brown and John Boehner.

I also like to write to Gayle Manning,Matt Lundy and John Kasich.

I would CC you on themessages but I don`t have your email address.

Both parties do this all the time, especially during an election year. They take the other party`s plan, mess with it somehow so that the other side won`t vote for it, and then use the result as political leverage. This is just another reason people hate the way the system works.

@jtreb: Insted of whining like a little schoolgirl, why don`t YOU go lookitup?

And nice dodge of @leesah`s pointing out that no one disagrees that it is indeed Obama`s Budget, they ALL voted against it! Every-single-one!

The Repubs have 2 budget proposals, but they`re likely to get killed by the Democrat Senate.

"it wasn`t exactly Obama`s budget plan."

"But Republicans said they used all of the president`s numbers in the proposal, so it faithfully represented his plan. Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican, even challenged Democrats to point out any errors in the numbers aand he would correct them — a challenge no Democrats took up."

How about this?: Tell the Senate and the President to shut up about the budget and let the House of Representatives come up one, then the Senate and President can get involved. Until then all Federal spending stops. Period.

No, we can`t do that because it would be doing things the way the US Constitution specifically states it should be done. Demo-craps wouldn`t get to villify Re-pubic-ans, Re-pubic-ans couldn`t keep their war machine going. Libertarians and Constituionalists might be taken serioulsy for a change and we could actually fix this nation before it follows in the footsteps of the Roman Empire.

The reason why senate Democrats voted against Obama`s "budget plan" was because it wasn`t exactly Obama`s budget plan. Senator Sessions forced the senate to vote on a budget bill that was only 56 pages long, claiming that it was Obama`s budget plan. Unfortuantely, Sessions is lying because Obama`s budget plan is 2,000 pages long. Rather, Sessions just pulled out certain pages from Obama`s actual budget to make it seem negative, and to politically make it seem like Democrats were voting against the President. Senator Kent Conrad of South Dakota said "I think it’s readily apparent there is a big difference between the president’s budget, which I hold in my hands, and what Sen. Sessions has presented as being the president`s budget. This is not the president`s budget. So, of course, we`re not going to support it. It`s not what the president proposed."

See this chart on new spending just for interest. People complain about politicians spending money, but look to Greece and France to see what happens to politicians who offer spending cuts. We only have ourselves to blame.

`Republicans forced the vote by offering the president`s plan on the Senate floor.`

Obama`s budget was proposed by a Republican? As a non-American, I don`t understand this at all.
