This has been driving me crazy all day trying to figure out the significance of 1924. I think I finally figured it out

One of the top 5 worst acts of racism in United States history

You can`t? Good, because it hasn`t, it`s only been 10 years, 11 in September. I hope you were kidding.

I think the point is "holy crap, Vietnam was a really long time ago`.

In other news, its been nearly 20 years since pogs were popular, and 14 years since Pokemon was released. Time goes by quick, eh?
1924 marked the end of the United States occupation of the Dominican Republic, and the significance of that date as it pertained to those living in the Vietnam era as we occupied Vietnam.
Can`t tell if you are being serious or sarcastic. Surely the year must mean something. If not this, then what does it mean?
Is 1924 the end of WW1 or something? Is he saying the vietnam war occurred as many years after "the war to end all wars" as we are now from the vietnam war, i.e. we may get into another quagmire war, we are forgetful, etc?
That`s what I would have thought, except WWI ended November 11, 1918 (hence, Veterans Day)

This isn`t a perspective on war, it`s more of a Zen koan actually.

NDT does basic arithmetic - how amazingly profound. Next he`ll be tying his own shoelaces. If that`s a real quote rather than a parody, he`s quickly becoming a caricature of himself.

Dr. Tyson: "I am making a sandwich. Did you know that sourdough bread is actually made from bacteria?"

Internet: "OMFG!!!"

Here`s a fun fact: Christopher Columbus` voyage to the Americas in 1492 is as far in the past now as the year 972 AD was to it. The similarity between this fact and NdGT`s? No one cares.

As opposed to the Edges of America?

This isn`t his "perspective" on it--it`s just an interesting tidbit.

Because the war in Afghanistan is so similar to Vietnam.

Actually, they have no parallels whatsoever.

Is he just being random?

Thanks for clarifying that J alegarbes. Much appreciated. I think the deeper meaning of his post, however, is the fact that 1924 marked the end of the United States occupation of the Dominican Republic, and the significance of that date as it pertained to those living in the Vietnam era as we occupied Vietnam. The obvious parallel is the lessons we are familiar with in Vietnam as we occupy Afghanistan.

Also, Neil Degrasse Tyson is smarter than you.

what he meant was:

1924 +44 years> 1968 > +44 years> 2012

stupid post is stupid.
