yes, but I didn`t capitalize anything in my response, except maybe I. I typically don`t even start sentences with capital letters, or end my final sentence with a period

But its a placement test, so you want to do poorly so that you get into the easy intro class.

what did I misspell?"

English should be capitalized. Shouldn`t it? I`m like 99% sure, and I`m not being sarcastic about that right now. There`s a part of me that thinks maybe it doesn`t have to be. Oh well.

@PinkHomicide, that`s the way you would think it works, but it doesn`t. If you put in "(ABCD)" It brings up pages of results with "ABCD" without the parentheses. If you put in "(ABCD)" -"ABCD", you get nothing.

Likewise, if you want to find out if the most common usage of a two-word phrase is hyphenated, you find that searching for "two word" or "two-word" produces the exact same results that include both forms.

There are a lot of characters that are just ignored no matter how you structure your search, and this is very often a problem for me in my line of work.

what did I misspell?

also, if the questions have to do with tense, google translate doesn`t always do those very well. I do agree that because this is a placement test, unless the whole course is online, this person will fall flat on their face first day

Yeah, exact literal phrase searches that include ALL characters. For instance, if I need the definition of the acronym ABCD, it would be nice to search for "(ABCD)" and find only occurrences of the term in parentheses, since it would likely be preceded by the definition, but Google ignores the parentheses as it does MANY other characters. I then have to do a page search for (ABCD), and I may have to go through 8 or 10 results pages till I find it.

If Google had a REAL exact search function, it would save me HOURS! Maybe something like:

"<and I really f***ing MEAN it>search term</and I really f***ing MEAN it>"

And Chrome can`t even do case-sensitive page searches. That`s one reason I switched back to Firefox.

"t literally takes the words and translates them where they are, italian doesn`t have the same sentence structure as english (sic)"

Considering you just have to pick the missing word, it would probably work wonders here. But, given it`s a placement test, if you cheat by using the translate, you pretty much set yourself up for failure.

it doesn`t translate very well.

it would be like me talking like this:
doesn`t it good translation
yeah but why would you want to cheat on a placement test? to get into a class that is at just the right difficulty level for you to not have the slightest drating clue what is going on?

at the very least, a test like that should create/destroy sessions so refreshing the page to translate will return an error

mind you could still copy/paste the questions into google translates app page or get someone over your shoulder to help, so that test itself can`t be too important

aaaaany way...chrome rocks 8-)
