Actually, you`re (almost) right, the name Li is more common in China than Zhang (but the stats I consulted talked about "world wide", so I don`t know whether that makes a difference).

Apparently the most common name is Wang, though (again, at least in China proper), which will be wonderful news to all junior high school students because there`ll be so many opportunities to make fun of your classmates last name ... )

Apparently, close to 40% of Vietnamese share the last name Nyugen, wow, that`s going to be awkward at work ("Mr. Nyugen, please take care of this report". "Me?" "Me?" etc.)

In absolute numbers, they`re no match for "Zhangs", though, apparently there are at least 100 mio. of them worldwide!

Am I glad my last name is Wolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff, no confusion there.
