Anyone else remember the `Skinhead` books of the 70`s? (Obviously most people won`t.)

I just think it`s nice people are reading.

I saw these in the African-American section of the local Hastings. Right next to Toni Morrison and Alice Walker. Represent.

lostinkorea - I never said the Harlequin Romance novels were fine literature either, but they did not play on a stupid white stereotype. You didn`t see Harlequin Romances called "Trailer Park Passion". These GhettoRomances are dumbed down and perpetuate the stereotype that all black men are thugs, and black women are just single mothers. {A romance with a pregnant chick? She`s gotta be single amiright?}

So, YES they do perpetuate a negative image of black people, and YES I am called a racist if I ever hint at that same stereotype.

Again, as I say in almost every thread, personal responsability. If the black community doesn`t like people thinking they are thugs, stop glamorizing thug culture. Don`t blame me if you gave me a bad impression of yourself.

I`m currently working on:

"Food Stamp Rage Pt. 1:
"Father`s Day: Confuzion in Da Hood"
"Bitch Slap Street Rap"

It`s fun using the phrase `dat ass` twice every page.

"then tell me I`m a racist for believing the stereotype"
________

Gerry, I am assuming you`re being sarcastic. What about those ridiculous Harlequin romance books? Do you believe those are true as well? These books are fiction, meaning, NOT REAL. And furthermore, there are idiots/liars/thieves/ignorant people of all colors...

I love that everybody is at least trying to take part in literary arts. Despite the terrible genres that are coming out of it.

Everyone has their interests, it`s a shame that people don`t enjoy the classics anymore but hey, as long as it keep people reading. :-?

They`ll publish things like this, then tell me I`m a racist for believing the stereotype they perpetuate.

Can`t win for losing.
