Canadian Kid Suspended For His Pro-Jesus T-shirt

Submitted by: uatme 5 years ago in

He wasn"t mocking religion, it"s just his belief and he wasn"t forcing God on anyone either. Did the school overreact?

I`m against religion in public school but let the kid wear the shirt he wants to wear. People need to learn that sometimes people will advertise dumb things, you don`t need to pay it any attention.

I bet a student couldn`t wear a shirt to the same school if it said "life is wasted with Jesus" either. Religious people are so ignorant sometimes.

I wish it was like that at my school. My principle praises Jesus over the intercom basically every morning.

as a non-christian i find this shirt VERY offensive. it is a direct attack towards non-christians and clearly says that because we are not christian that out lives are being wasted. this shirt preaches nothing but hate

Absolutely nothing wrong with someone wearing that shirt. It`s like not allowing a Jay Z shirt because he`s black and black people were slaves and it might offend someone.

I`m betting this school wouldn`t have a problem with him wearing a `Che` T-shirt, even though he was a murdering bastard.

Yet another reason to abolish public schools.

Its...a t-shirt. Think about all the t-shirts you see kids wearing (bands, gaming, etc etc). Needless drama, and stupid....

Questions for @burglar, @Groogle and even @PinkRhoid:
#1 Did the school also ban pot t-shirts? Rock band shirts? Shirts with ANY slogan that MIGHT offend someone else?
No.
#2: MLK was arrested many times, should HE have just `follower the rules` like a good nigra?

Note: I am certianly not comparing this kid to MLK, but the principle is the same: If you disagree with a `rule` you can peacefully protest it!

PS: the "wasted" is a pot-smoking reference, for the dimwits like @soundman who obviously don`t `get it`.

@Lucky2u I agree, I posted 2 links to stories about this, none of them had to do with a recorded TV.

He was forcing religion onto others by walking in a public place with a shirt that could incite others to fellow his religion.

"Religion is like a penis. It`s fine to have one and it`s fine to be proud of it, but please don`t whip it out in public and start waving it around... and PLEASE don`t try to shove it down my child`s throat."
Why don`t idiot christians just shut up. That`s why we hate you. Keep your silly superstitions to yourself.
Why don`t idiot atheists just shut up? That`s why we (non-idiot atheists) hate you. Christians can wear or say what they like so long as it doesn`t impede on my freedoms. Wearing a shirt, as it happens, does not as I am free to look away. In a school it is different as parents worry about their kids "indoctrinated" to a belief and want it separated. That still doesn`t mean the kid is stupid for wearing it. Just stupid for not cooperating when requested at the very least until he could file a complaint with the board and seek legitimate action instead of brash defiance.

@5cats and katy526... i am sorry but you are both wrong. It isnt a shirt with a "slogan". Its a religous shirt with a religous slogan. It says life is a waste without jesus. implying that everyone elses life is a waste. Also...freedom of speach does not apply in school. neither does alot of other constutional rights...I know. this is canada, but same idea.

Problem child wants to be kicked out in a way he doesn`t look like a dropout if you ask me.
If he was just wearing it and minding his own and the school has no policy against wearing shirts with logos (as many do) then the school is likely overreacting although the message on the shirt isn`t just a positive exclamation of his faith like, "I love Jesus." It is easy to imagine how some might be offended by someone suggesting that they or their life is worthless if they don`t believe what he does. If someone found it offensive I can see why the school might sympathize that it can be construed as offensive and asked him nicely to take it off. He refuses etc. etc.
With almost no info on how it really went down it is impossible to say who is really the oppressor/oppressed and argument over speculation only serves to start religion fights.

As an atheist...I think the school overreacted. He wasn`t pushing his religion on anyone, he was just chillin` in his god shirt. Who cares.

Obviously if other kids get to wear shirts with things on them, he should get to wear a shirt with stuff on it.

A lot of schools don`t let kids wear t-shirts with slogans on them.

Suspended half a dozen times before, then proceeds to disobey when a school official asks him to turn his shirt inside out...?

There`s more to this story.

And considering both he and his father look like high-grade rednecks, a few things come to mind...

I`m deeming this an over-reaction for now, but if more on this story comes out, I wouldn`t be surprised to find that changing.

In the school`s defense, I`ve seen tons of christians wearing shirts with very sketchy slogans. They make them just to get your attention. Still, suspending him for his shirt is drating retarded.

Of course, this is coming from someone who almost got kicked out for wearing a Sex Pistols shirt.

We`ve been putting up with this for years now, can we please... PLEASE... stop allowing videos of people recording their TV onto the internet?! This is freaking ridiculous!

They did totally overreact, but its nice to finally see a school NOT showing favoritism towards one religion. I went to a public school and there was a jesus freak that wore a different shirt like this everyday and they did nothing to him, but if anyone else wore something not having to do with jesus you had to turn it inside out.

I agree with @5cats. I`d like to see this school`s policy on shirt slogans before I deem the suspension appropriate or not.

Discrimination at it`s worst!
If other kids can wear shirts with `slogans` on them, so can he! It doesn`t matter which religion he supports, free speech should be free for all!

However I`m certain IAB`s liberals will disagree.
