I would be smiling to if I got one year for that. Jeez, you get decades of jailtime for providing a plant to people who willfully pay for it, and ONE year for kidnapping, robbing and beating someone. i hope this A-hole gets killed in prison. But i´m guessing that doen´t happen to often in low security prisons, even in the states...

Nope. Just in the odd thick American`s tiny minds - such as yourself. Run along now, I`ve no time for lazy, incompetent morons like you that don`t check even the most basic of `facts` before posting your uninformed opinions online. I might not *agree* with other opinions expressed on here, but at least they come from people prepared to do the bare minimum to check their facts.

MacGuffin: As far as people`s profile here, I don`t look at them, too many people put up fake info or nothing at all.

Scotland is part Great Britain, thus part of `England` in most people`s minds. You have the same laws, drive on the left side, and are on the same island.

What you are claiming is not unlike a Texan saying they aren`t part of the USA, it`s false and disingenuous.

You couldn`t rebut my argument of `pot meet kettle` so you sidestepped and called me ignorant. Trying to get a straight answer out of you is like trying to nail jello to the wall. Squirming away and deflecting, is not debate it`s disgustingly infantile.

Even jamie76 knows you`re talking out your ass and that`s saying something because it`s rare for us two to agree on anything.

Yet another American using the "two wrongs make a right" fallacy to try and excuse US behaviour.

I`ll ask you again: even if all your premises about Europe were true (and you`ve not established that your premises are true - unqualified anecdotes don`t equal facts), do you think for one minute that would in some way excuse the appalling and measurable widescale mistreatment of black US citizens by the US state?

And I`m `rather` sure I didn`t say that I "live in England", because I don`t, and never have.

As for you having "no idea where I was actually born", aside from me having mentioned it numerous times on here (which other more perceptive Americans seem to have been able to pick up upon in this very thread), and it also being contained in my IAB profile page only a click away, yeah, it would take that superhuman `psychic` ability that you don`t possess called `intelligence` to be able to deduce my actual nationality from only those few, carefully-concealed sources.

You are easily the dumbest person commenting on IAB, Crakr. And that`s really saying something given the stiff competition you have from the likes of 5cats et al.

I lived in Europe...the countries there treat Africans AS BAD as anywhere I have ever been in this world...and that is MANY places.

In Spain for example, the cops routinely beat illegal African immigrants and so do the people, and no, nothing gets done about it.

Europe was the largest sponsor of the slave trade outside of the US so do not for a second act like you guys are better than us.

oh and do not even get me started on how you talk about and treat Muslims...worse record of abuse against them anywhere I have ever been. Try being Muslim and living in France where Islam is all but banned.

get off your BS and come back to reality. Europe is by whites for whites, just like the US.

If you don`t live and weren`t born in England then I made a mistake. But most of Europe in general is much more repressive, racist and bellicose than America has ever thought of being.

I`ve known a few people, one from Germany another from England that were pleasantly surprised at how much Freedom Americans actually have. I`ve also known many military servicemen that were very glad to be back home and said that we take our freedoms for granted here in comparison to Europeans.

Nobody has said that Europe doesn`t have racism. But the fact that it does have some racism doesn`t excuse America`s far worse record of abusing and mistreating black people. In many ways, America`s racial problems are far worse, not least because they so often involve the actual state acting against black people, rather than just racist individuals within society doing so. The fact that many American`s response to such criticism is "but Europeans have racism too!!!" speaks volumes; does it make it OK merely because other people do it, do you think?

There is a debate here about racism in the USA vs. Europe. Allow me to present the some of the newest members of Parliament, in the Cradle of Democracy it self; Greece:

The are from the party "Golden Dawn" and they give Nazi- salutes to each other, approaches the "Fuhrer" principle and in general just practice their love for Adolf Hitler.

@Bremir: I get what you`re saying, but it`s really not hard to cite examples from various European countries. For example, there`s an awful lot of racism in England against Pakistani immigrants. Denmark has been passing xenophobic laws. When I spent time in the Czech Republic, I saw swastikas constantly.

FoolsPrussia - I wasn`t going to join in with this but I have to point this out.

America is one country. Europe is made up of what? 47 different countries?

Saying there`s racism in America is one thing, saying there`s similar racism in Europe is so vague without going into specifics and pointing out individual countries.

One country versus 47 countries is not the same thing.

Wow, only a year. I thought the USA was substantially stricter on violent crimes than in Norway.

This guy would be convicted for illegal detention, violence (probably, depends on the injuries from the beating) and forcing a person to humiliation.

The maximum penalty for "simple" violence like this (punching someone in the face etc.) is one year in Norway. Usually you will get less, like 3 months, but the illegal detention and the humiliation could turn it into aggravating and with no mitigating circumstances he could get close to a year here as well.

I was seriously waiting for the judge to say "five years" or something. But one year? USA, wow..
MacGuffin - Banana incident was here in Canada. And don`t say we`re the same sh*t as the US...
The game was between two American teams, and the article referenced highlights several other incidents of black players in American teams experiencing racism.

That`s not really the point, though. As I said, I imagine black American men are rather more concerned at being seven times more likely to be in prison than white American men, and about the fact that the police don`t seem to care about their unarmed children being killed by self-appointed vigilantes in their own neighbourhoods until the press gets involved and embarrasses them into acting.

The sad thing is, drW, I believe most ground-level Americans are pretty sick of the way you`re treated by your government. There are a few vocal people that seem to think criticising your government is akin to pissing on the ideals of freedom and democracy, but they`re thankfully in the minority. A substantial majority of you voted for a better relationship with the world back in 2008. You voted for a President that promised to end your wars, make amends for human rights abuses, and punish the guilty. Unfortunately, the person you voted for did none of these things he promised (and don`t mention Iraq - you`re only out of there because he couldn`t negotiate further immunities for crimes committed by US troops). It`s the system itself that`s corrupt, not just the participants.

Everywhere in the Western world has a "sh*tty economy" right now, Xerasia. There`s a recession on, don`t you know? It was caused by our banks buying American sub-prime mortgage debt, that American homeowners subsequently defaulted on. If you`d been Iceland, we`d have seized your assets by now for that sort of fiscal mis-selling.

As for WW2 damage still afflicting Scotland? It sounds like you don`t know what you`re talking about there. Can you give me a specific example of this apparent 70-year blight on our landscape?

Someone else points out how f**ked up we are and you start to bash them, with mis-information, because you can`t stand to see that the US of A is not the greatest country in the world. It`s not even in the top ten. Instead of pointing fingers saying, "well, yea I know we are f**ked...but at least we are not you..." think about what you are saying. Our gun laws are a joke, our education system is really f**ked, and our government is owned by big business.

>>>Yes because there certainly isn`t any racism or bellicosity in Europe. Please refresh my memory as to the last time there was a riot at an US sporting event or the last time fans threw bananas at black players at a US sporting events.<<<

Since you asked, September 22nd 2011 appears to be the last occasion I can find of an black American sportsman being subjected to having banana thrown at him by American fans. I`m pretty sure the victim involved will be more concerned, though, at America locking up 1-in-15 black males, and about unarmed teenage black kids being stalked and killed by self-appointed `neighbourhood watch` vigilantes.

This just goes to show what a bad joke the American justice system is. You can sentence a human rights lawyer that is in her seventies and suffering from cancer to ten years imprisonment for the `serious` offence of *holding a press conference*, but people that commit real crimes such as assault, false imprisonment and robbery with racially-aggravating factors like this evil creep get away with less than a year in jail. No wonder he was smirking throughout the whole farcical court hearing. What a prick, and what a great system that looks after such a prick.
