That said, if you know anything about Washington DC, this will all make sense.

Even if this is fake, it`s true for most teens. Any system used to weigh drugs is fairly well known amongst youth.

Ounces and grams anyone?

Are people trying to claim that drug and drug-related crime isn`t rampant in America`s inner cities?

Look, this is funny because it`s TRUE. Which is what the Onion does so well. So call it racist, call it whatever you want, but it`s sadly also quite accurate.

@charmingman and a miniature 9mm! no way its actually a normal sized bag and not a little baggie and everything in that picture was shrunk down to a smaller size! because all pictures are life-sized right?

Well the person that wrote this article obviously does not have the same grasp on the metric system; a small baggie containing .25KG! In other words 250 grams?

@JetPink: the headline for the dolphin article was something like "Dolphin isn`t so smart on land" or similar. I don`t remember where I saw it, but it might have been on http://thechive.com/

It seems that we should be more concerned about the dolphin since it performed poorly... maybe it should hit the inner city so it can at least learn the metric system. ;)

First of all, if you actually read the newspaper, it mentions teens in the Cabrini Green housing projects. Are you ignorant enough not to know what 96% of the race of people there are? Seriously. Because that`s just your ignorance showing.

Secondly, THE FLUCKING ONION! Are you ignorant of what that means? Seriously? Because that`s a whole different level of sad.

There`s nothing racist about that. "Inner city" has nothing to do with race. The only people I`ve ever met that think only blacks/hispanics/etc live in an area considered to be the "inner city" are those who grew up in the middle of nowhere, mainly small midwest towns...

@Armauld: It`s quite possible that jamie76 mixed his metaphors, or liquor, or whatever, but what he said was that white people need to accept that they are the only ones that feel that racism is dead. Now certainly you can act in a racist manner while claiming that racism is dead. But rarer is the case where you actually think/believe that racism is dead and simultaneously act upon racist impulses.

I`m not saying that cognitive dissonance doesn`t exist, but what is more common are people who do like you said. Proclaim the absence of racism but know they don`t like other races. I hope that clears up my statement about jamie76`s comment. People that truly feel that racism doesn`t exist are either (racists in a state of cognitive dissonance) (or non-racists).

The racists or near racists I have known knew full well what they didn`t like and weren`t trying to hide it.

How is this even remotely racist? 1 kilo of ham is the same as a kilo of manure or anything else. "inner city kids" ? are you telling me that there is only 1 race? Who is the moron that thought this was racist? Maybe the person that posted this. Bet they cannot convert a 1/4 ounce to grams.

Thelonius - You can act in a racist manner while claiming racism doesn`t exist (maybe you`re in denial or you just don`t realize why what you`re saying is offensive).
Maybe, as a white person, you aren`t racist so you assume that no other white person is, that doesn`t mean racism doesn`t exist.

"I think it is time for white people to stop trying so hard to convience everyone that racism is dead and start accepting that they are the only ones that feel that way and that their point of view is not inherinttely the right one or what is normal."

LOL only white people think racism is dead. Therefore, only blacks are racist. THE. GENIUS. OF. IT.

why does everyone always assume that something isn`t race motivated?

by everyone I am mostly talking about the dominant culture in America that is so out of touch with whatis and is not racism that they hardly recongize it when it is. This article may or may not be racist, but it is hard to ignore the reasoning behind it and the implications it makes.

I think it is time for white people to stop trying so hard to convience everyone that racism is dead and start accepting that they are the only ones that feel that way and that their point of view is not inherinttely the right one or what is normal.

it is THEIR point of view, not "the truth" or "the way it really is".

the fact that whites make those two statements over and over it proof enough that they are blind to the fact that institutional racism is alive, well and more accepted now then they believe it to be.

How is this racist? The title never mentions a specific race or can`t white people live in the inner city?

Reply
Male 3,894
This isn`t racist, race isn`t even mentioned. It`s not making any unfair assumptions based on race (stereotyping), or positing that one race is inferior in status to another (actual racism).

Just... stop it.

I know (from experience) that cabrini green is known as the "projects of Chicago" and populated by mainly African Americans. I have no idea about Watts, but I would assume the same thing. I still agree that this post has little to do with race as the average reader would not know that.

I guess it`s racist if one believes that inner city youths are only one color or ethnicity- a hell of an assumption, ans a false one at that.
I do not see a dateline on this section of the newspaper, but Cabrini Green has been non existent for about a year now, so there is no telling how old this article is.
