I`m so glad that we`re free from the incessant, borish proselytizing the Christians insist on hoisting on everyone. Their inability to simply permit others their religious beliefs and not subject everyone within earshot to their bombastic beliefs is wretched.

    ...oh wait.

In the red corner we have the closed-minded Christians who post in outrage to defend their faith.

In the blue corner we have the closed-minded atheists who post in outrage to disprove faith.

Please remember that the audience must not at any time point out that modern liberal democracies such as those in the United States, Canada and the UK allow for both of these positions to exist without mutual exclusion.

Also, please disregard the irony of individuals on both sides of the argument who claim that they are systematically oppressed and that as a result, anybody who doesn`t agree with them ought to be repressed.

Now, sit back as the daily battle begins. Who will emerge victorious in this tete-a-tete? Trick question! These two sides will once again enter the arena as they are to be forever locked in a battle royale on the internet in which no resolution can exist because people don`t often change their fundamental beliefs!

    Stay tuned for mo

@kilgore. you`re quite erudite for such a young person.

as an atheist, i don`t routinely jump all over dumb-ass christians (another`s words), i simply take exception to the fact that my position, be it right or wrong, is not given any respect. perhaps it is different for persons living in larger cities, but i live in a teensy weensy tiny southern town where i KNOW BETTER than to express my lack of religious beliefs. its not good for business, social contacts, and in some cases, health. yes, really.

I`m not more religious than the next guy, but this website is obviously biased, putting atheist posts quite often. I don`t care what one person`s beliefs or non beliefs are. But it just doesn`t stop. It`s somewhat harassing. If they say religious people love to shove their beliefs down people`s throats, this site shows quite the contrary.

    Kilgore:

Here is the difference. I live in a midewest town of about 200,000. Churches every 6 blocks with messages on their signs espousing their beliefs, people driving in cars with `trust jesus`, `saved`, `4given`, and other messages espousing their beliefs. Businesses with religious belief statements across town. All of these people have a right to their beliefs and should be free of being persecuted for those beliefs.

I am a business owner and I don`t dare put my atheist statement on my sign, I can`t tell certain family members what I think because they will be so offended by my opinion they will not talk to me again.

No I don`t think I am a victim. But to imply these differing opinions are on equal ground is not true and I hope that atheists getting their message out on places they feel comfortable with will help that situation.

Christopher Hitchens: (I may not get this word for word)

Religion is false because it comes in so many different flavors, and if you went back in time and removed all trace of religion it might come back but it would be completely different from the `religions` of today. Even modern religions cannot agree on what is true.

Science however, if you removed all scientific knowledge and discovery, it would come back, people would figure it out and it would be exactly the same as it is today.

@kilgore89. Good post. Increasingly, this site seems to have become I-Am-Atheist, not I-Am-Bored. I come on here to catch up on new internet content (this site is straightforward and new content is all up-front), but, more and more, there are obscure items (that dont show up anywhere else as current or viral) that seem designed to push an agenda/provoke a flame war. I have been personally attacked for saying this, but, its just the internet...I aint even mad. But, I-A-B, could you move past this bi-polar phase, figure out what you are/want to be (a current-content site, or a pro-atheist site), and then, be that ???

@lawndartsftw: I don`t know why debating religion is the only area you consider discussion inappropriate?
I got called an idiot the other day for saying it would be nice if race wasn`t a factor in the Trayvon case.
Feel free to extol why you think your religion is right or valid and be ready to debate those points. Or do not, its your call but to say we shouldn`t discuss this one topic is simply odd, especially when there are decenting view points which make discussion more interesting not less.

If you go to an atheist site its boring, everyone agrees. Same on a christian site. Why turn away from intellectual discovery and challenge? Religion or any other subject shouldn`t be considered taboo when differing opinions can be expressed logically.

what`s up with people hating this kind of content? seriously, if you don`t like it skip it, you don`t have to participate in the comments.

This kind of post rings a bell for people who want to discuss religion or in this precise case, people who want to remember Madalyn and Hitchens.

But really, do you see me in every comment section? I don`t like all content in IAB, in fact I skip about half of it most of the time –specially the Zimmerman stuff after the first few posts, although I was debating it a lot at first.

Just face it people, IAB is tailored to suit the likes of a lot of people, not just yours, the sooner you accept that the sooner we can go without a comment section full of 5Cats complaining about how mods don`t accept his sh*tty submissions (newsflash, they barely ever accept my awesome submissions), or how it`s all christians vs atheists.

Geez are you listening to yourselves?

@jendrian, and @RPossom. Thank you for your posts, good reading. Reflecting on this topic, I realize it isnt the atheist content that bothers my (not at all. Hitchens, Dawkins, etc are quite intelligent and interesting). Its the trolling. Current content (atheist or w/e) doesnt bother me at all, because it is CURRENT, newsworthy, etc. It is what I expect (am led to believe ?) when I log on here, and its what I come here for, to be informed and to discuss/comment on that current info. When some old, obscure, mouldy, dusty item is put on here, given a description to make look relevant, with a shot taken at religion, and all it really is is just bigotry/prejudice being used to troll the unsuspecting non-atheist, well, I guess I need to learn to walk away from internet ignorance, not respond to it. It is like they say...arguing on the internet is like running a race in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you are still "special"....

Contradicting science is outrageous? Science contradicts itself all the damn time. There would be no science if it was treated like dogma, it would just be another type of faith. That`s really the biggest difference between believing in science or religion: science is based on a changing set of rules. Religion is completely inadaptable because there is no requirement for any kind of proof. That`s why there`s like 200 kinds of Christianity, which is of course an offshoot of other religions itself. You can make up an infinite number of faiths but there is only one science.

Yup, like I said, if your expectations of a post are not met, skip it. If your expectations of a comment thread are not met, skip it.

Look at that "Zimmerman got charged" post, it`s completely irrelevant for anyone outside of the US (or even outside of Florida), yet it`s got about 400 posts. You don`t have to participate, and even if you had an interesting point of view, threads like that get really retarded after a while.

What I`m saying is don`t hate the posts, hate the commenters.

All of you who say I-A-B is some all-out pro atheist site obviously don`t stroll around the internet too much. The vast majority of the internet is like this. Hilariously enough, a ton of you think that I-A-B is this unique boogyman that has it out for religion.

Also, stop acting like such victims. I PROMISE you, while you may be the minority online (poor you!), you have almost all the power in (American) society. The reason atheists, the non-religious, and every other group that doesn`t fit into "fundamental Christian" have been increasingly volatile is bullsh*t like banning gay marriage and using school to indoctrinate religion.

There is no reasoning with this sh*t. I cannot be the kind, fair atheist any more. Your religion has made my life suck, along with billions of others. I never signed up for your backwards system, and I shouldn`t have to suffer because of it.

Unfortunately, O`Hair has a point, about most Christians who don`t get what it`s all about. Christianity is about helping your fellow man. My pastor believes in all three of her statements, and has acted on them, unfortunately, that is rare, as is the fact that she is a woman. The church is Zion life in Plano, TX. Karen Spano, Pastor, was given 100k by a wealthy family who she did not name. Instead of using it to start building a church (small congregation in a leased office building), she used it to build a hospital on the islands off of Uganda on Lake Victoria. She also not only prays for the poor of Uganda, but has started Weeps which takes 100% of donations and gives them as gifts, not loans, for Widows to start businesses, 87% success rate. My church also does not believe in the Rapture, only the in body return of Christ at some point in the not-near future. Escape into death is the last thing on our minds as we have a mission to carry out here on earth.

"Our belief is not a belief", just think about that one for a momment.

"Our principals are not a faith", yes they are, because you have faith others will follow suit, also you have faith that you have been told the truth, cause people lie, plain and simple.

I could go on, but I hope you catch my drift, there is two sides to every story, and when your belief system has no problem with liars, how can you trust them.

@EgalM: There are two sides to every story, but the way you wrote what you did seems rather smug and self-congratulatory.

Atheists (of the non-militant kind) do not believe or have faith that others will follow suit. For the most part, atheists are a live and let live bunch. If you want to believe in your god, go right ahead- just don`t shove it down my throat.

"...you have faith that you have been told the truth, cause people lie," and we all know that no Christian has ever lied. The difference as we see it is that science can be reproduced by anyone (peer review), rather than religion which relies on belief in non-reproducable ancient stories. You say atheism has no problem with liars? How about the Church denying any number of scientific truths and corruption within its ranks?

One last note, there is a difference between generally believing something to be true and a belief, which is usually purported to be the *certainty* of truth. Believing c

Hospitals are made by the faithful and dedicated in the name of the saints, schools are too. More hospitals and schools have been made by the faithful than churches. This was done through hard work, close community, AND prayer. Some very great achievements have been found in those hospitals and schools, including by people of faith through hard work and prayer. These achievements have helped many countless of thousands.

The faithful work to help all people understand the importance of loving one another, and caring for one another, and respecting one another. After all, God created us all, and urges us to love one another as He loves us, so we should respect one another as siblings.

Creating a division will only work against us all. What is important is that we love one another. Meaning if someone finds out that loving one another works best and strives to do this no matter what, who can fault them?
