Art? Actually, yeah. Looking back at when hip hop was born, it mirrored other pop-art that re-purposed and re-interpreted existing work. It was a way to take ownership of what was around you and to use that as a means of expression. It is decidedly urban and grows out of existing in a world that isn`t physically yours.

Art? Yes. Not all of it is any good and certainly all of the stuff you hear on the radio these days is absolute garbage. However, there are people out there who did and are using the medium to create a genuinely interesting product.

RAP IS POP !!!! and when they`re talking about lyrics, LOL! all they do is regurgitate the same old platitudes and boast about how great they are or how hard their life was and how they had no other choice but to be a gangster. a self indulgent, self self-congratulatory circle-jerk

Rap used to be a music genre worth recognition. Today it sucks and this film won`t change that.

    "art" ?
I`ll go so far as to say some hip hop is. Not all. Certainly not (c)rap. To say off of it is "art" is saying all singing is art and we can agree that Rabecca Balcks "FRIDAY" was not art.

Whoever says that hip hop isn`t art has never listened to hieroglyphics, Aesop rock, or any of the actually musically inclined groups. Sadly the bitches and hoes poo happens to be what became popular, but quite a few groups have well thought out and meaningful lyrics. Just because myley cyrus gets popular doesn`t mean we should say all rock is poo.
