I`m guessing cycle couriers have to believe in themselves to the point of jerkdom to survive doing what they do, so were probably well up for a bit of battery.

If the assaulted did the crime, then fine, nothing to see, move along.

On the other hand if he got on the wrong bike, or is messed in the head, then its not cool.

Much better than court. The police aren`t real justice this simple act is. I hope he walks away and this doesn`t follow him.

"Not justified at all. There`s due process in the legal system"

Chris Rock said it best...

"It`s not right,...but I understand."

"Not justified at all. There`s due process in the legal system for very good reasons ..."

These two guys possibly just saved the tax payer thousands upon thousands of dollars - police salaries, judge`s salaries, lawyer`s fees, court costs, jail costs, possible prison costs, etc. etc

30 second, well deserved beat down where very little actual physical damage was done vs. passing the costs on to the tax paying public? I say, slap the taste out of that boy`s mouth and be done with it.

Just sayin`

Not justified at all. There`s due process in the legal system for very good reasons, one of which is to provide a better system than vigilante "justice". You need proof and witness reports cannot be used reliably on a scene to do any more than determine whether further investigation is required. Mobs very often get the wrong person for a crime, and we have NO evidence that this is the man who was attempting to steal bikes (or if any thief was even attempted).

Comment threads like this make me very glad that we don`t use mob "justice", as that is no justice at all.

Also since when was corporal punishment deemed civilised?

Legally they are wrong. They should have held him until cops arrived. That said their hits and kicks weren`t in it enough to call it vicious and they really didn`t beat him very much before walking away. I`d say the guy walked away with a few bruises instead of (new?) permanent criminal history, having to pay for the damage to the bike (He taco`d the rim), potential jail, house arrest, probabtion, or some combination of the above. Seems like a fair trade if not to the letter of law.

If you`re going to commit crimes you`ve got to take the consequences if you`re caught. It`s part of the job.

@EgalM:
If you steal a bike and don`t have a helmet, you`d stand out like a sore thumb if your area has helmet laws- the last thing you need. If you ask me, it just shows premeditation.
As for the punishment, I think it`s the only kind a lot of these bastards understand. If I`d seen the anal orifice who stole my motorscooter, I wouldn`t have hesitated to dismount him with a two-by-four.

If the guy was either already wearing a helmet, or picked it up and put it on before stealing the bike. Leads me to believe he`s not all that mentally stable, and was handled poorly.

Just saying, I`ve never seen a thief care about safety, but I have met some mentally handicaps who were kleptomaniacs. The 33secs provided give no proof he did anything wrong, and I`d be sorry too if someone was punching me in the face and I didn`t know why. Perhaps he got on the wrong bike, can`t tell without more proof.

This needs to happen more. The justice, not the steeling. Good for them.

Could have used a little more. Maybe a broken arm or at least the nose. Thieves deserve no sympathy.

Makes me think something I saw delivering pizza at a state university. If you left your bike in the bike rack it got stolen. If you used a bike lock they bent the wheels in half. Those punks could have used some of this.

@maddux: Because ollie has something up his a$$ and feels the need to inject partisan politics or race into whatever the subject matter is. Once his time of the month is over I`m sure it will lessen in severity.

@OldOllie

Why even say that? Why even bring black people into the conversation? It makes you sound like an idiot.

Too bad for him he wasn`t black. Everybody knows you can`t beat up a black guy like that without causing a riot.

He deserved 10X that much of a "beating". Will he stop? Not a chance! Even jail time has limited effect once they`ve settled on a `life of crime`.
He`ll be stealin bikes again in two days...

@WeePee...I think theft is a form of causing someone harm. Have you ever been robbed or your home entered unlawfully? Who`s going to swear out a warrant? The thief?

Or here`s a thought weepee, how about you grow some balls for that weepee of yours. If more people were like these guys there would be less crime in the world. Go back to your Prius and eat your lunch from Whole Foods you puzzy

That what it looks like when a punishment isn`t taken too far.

He got roughed up, but he is still alive. Maybe he learned his lesson.

it would be an assault if they were only threatening the "thief" with violence. this is a battery since they are actually attacking him.
considering the "thief" didn`t physically harm them in any way, i sure hope they get charged with battery for this one.

Justice can only be achieved in a courtroom. Vigilante justice is not reasonable by any means.
