How much would you pay for the universe? My friend edited this interview and I think the result is something beautiful.

He`s right. All these social programs have gotten us is an OWS entitlement mentality and a lot of laziness. The Chinese are going to come over here and tell us what to do if we don`t get our act cleaned up.

The driving force behind the Space Program was the Cold War, was it not ?? Not so much big dreams, but the need to get the "high ground" on the Commies, and keep it. America "won" the Cold War because the Commies went broke trying to keep pace.

Big dreams, imagination, belief/pursuit of science, is not enough to make happen what Tyson talks about here....sad but true.

were mired in debt and it has 0 to do with nasa or imagination. entitlements and people that think the government should hand out as much as it does in welfare social security and medicare, outside of giant defense budgets. giving nasa a bigger budget has little to do with imagination and much to do with it the fact putting people on the moon no longer swing votes

We could use a win right about now, and I can`t think of a better way to pursue it.

This country is f*cked. Everyone knows it. The curtain is falling and we have all sat by idly, even contributed to the whole collapse by doing noting more meaningful in the last 20 years than arguing about social issues like religion, abortion, gays, left/right ideologies, the use of recreational drugs, moral values and other sh*t that is only our own business as individuals - not the government`s. Poor Neil is fighting a losing battle and I think he knows it. He just maintains hope because he`s a fighter.

Oh, and if you have ever seen him speak in front of a governmental panel, you can see the condecending look on their faces. It`s as if they are all thinking "Aw, look at the cute little nerd...he`s being all smarty-farty and talking about space and stuff."

What Neil wants isn`t going to profit politicians TODAY. Therefore, because it won`t make them richer by this weekend, nobody in politics will take him seriously.

You`re f*cked. I`m f*cked. WE

@swoop

BAD CITIZEN! BAD! NO THINKY! *swats you with a rolled up newpaper* BAD!

Do that sh*t again and you get the squirt bottle.

GOOD citizens play along with the circus that is our election cycle, pretend we are the best in the world at everything and love a good war. We do NOT think, nor do we want anyone else who thinks in the white house.

Why don`t we have these type of people run for president instead of the stupid drats we see every 4 years?

Totally agree Angilion!
I especially notice that on my fb page. People are always bitching about their computers and their stupid little Farmville games. Yet they don`t even stop to realize how AMAZING the science that went into creating this brilliant tool really is.

He`s right. You had a glorious dream of brilliance and practical results from it...and now you`re losing it. NASA was the USA`s Alexandria.

In general, I wonder how so many people can be so terminally foolish that they can live surrounded by technology that is the result of past science and think that science doesn`t matter because it has no practical value. It`s jaw-droppingly stupid.

If my government declared a tax hike for science funding, with the money going specifically only to fund science and a large proportion of it going to blue-sky research with no consideration at all given to the immediate practical benefits, I`d party and I`d volunteer as a canvasser promoting support for that political party.
