its Hercule combattant Achéloüs métamorphosé en serpent by François-Joseph BOSIO made in 1845
it is located in Saint-Germain-L`auxerrois paris france

Molten bronze in 1824 by Carbonneaux
H. : 2.60 m. ; L. : 2.10 m. ; D. 0.95 m.
The plaster model was exhibited at the Salon of 1814.
The subject is taken from Ovid`s Metamorphoses: Achelous was the rival of Hercules for the love of Deianira; in combat, Achelous became a snake but was defeated by Hercules. Hercules and he said love of Deianira. Thereafter, trying to rekindle the love he bore her, Deianeira gave Hercules a tunic soaked with the blood of Nessus, which instead of being a love potion, turned out to be a burning poison.

Do ANY IAB mods have the basic human ability of using Google??? Dang you lot are retarded. Angillion is correct, this is Hercules killing Archelous by Francois Joseph Bosio, the same artist who did the statues on the top of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. I got all of that and more in less than five minutes. I will keep saying it: STOP SMOKING SO MUCH WEED.

@Angilion: Thanks for that! I wondered why he wasn`t smashing the snake with his "olive tree-club".

That got me curious, so I`ve just had a look at the mythology.

Heracles defeated Achelous in unarmed combat, beating Achelous in each of the physical forms that Achelous could take. When Achelous was in his bull form, Heracles ripped off one of his horns. Perhaps that`s what is in Heracles` hand in this sculpture.

Oh come on, biblical? The beard and hairstyle just screams "ancient Greece". Heroically muscled man from ancient Greece in an epic fight with a monster - Heracles was the obvious answer.

"Hercules fighting Acheloos transformed into a snake (1824) by François Joseph Bosio."
