Millions Of Teens Will Never Know The Power [Pic]

You can take the most average of cars and if they have one of these, there"s still more torque than your average import.

Meh. I don`t see the point.

No need for manual with poor fuel efficiency and low speed limits.

If I lived in sane Germany where I had the option of getting from city to city at 200KPH, then it would make sense.

Are we concluding that all imports are automatic transmissions then just because someone posted a pic of a manual gear shift lever on a car we cant even identify?

Angilion-"Wouldn`t the average import to the USA have a manual transmission anyway?"

No. They import what the people want. In Europe, nearly 80% of passenger cars have manual transmission. In the US the number is ~93.3% of passenger vehicles have automatic transmissions.

That being said, the majority of vehicles I`ve owned have been manual transmission. My favorite had four (4) gearshifts:
1 for the 3-speed tranny,
2 for the transmission (Hi/Low & 2wd/4wd), and
1 for the PTO unit that drove the winch.

My current truck is a standard. My wife was upset. Her: "If you buy a stick-shift I won`t be able to drive it!" Me: "Really? Darn!"

Stick Shift: Power when you want it, not when the computer decides you need it. Plus, an automatic cannot help you help you avoid an accident by downshifting to increase braking time.

The power of a 6-speed? Really? Try a power-glide 2 speed transmission. When you can hit 60 mph in 1rst gear, that`s muscle.

[quote">REAL muscle cars only need 4 speeds.[/quote">

This one only has 3, although it`s maybe too expensive to be considered a muscle car.

Red Victor 3

It`s not completely finished yet, since it was only built at the end of last year (3 is a new build, not a development of 2), but it`s road-legal. Insane, but road-legal. Most amusingly, it`s exempt from road tax because it`s a classic car (~1970 Vauxhall Victor).

people who realize that paddle shift smg tranny`s are far superior to slow heavy traditional 6spds.

my GT-R has over 500hp and DOES NOT have a traditional manual.

it has a smg paddle shifter trany and it shifts three times faster than you blink. it is the same set up used in F1 because it is faster, keeps both hands on the wheel and your attention on the road.

I had a tradtional 6spd vette...it doesn`t even come close in anyway to the GT-R and the tranny that it is equipped with.

then again to some people advancements can never replace their dogmatic beliefs and even though the gt-r hits 60 in 3,0 seconds and runs 11.00 flat 1/4 I guess I must have a vjay jay...so be it. all that means is you and your 6spd will get destoryed by my vjay jay powered nissan.

power of what???

I used to drive a traditonal 6 speed and trust me, the sports car I hjave now equipped with a SMG paddle shifter tranny is MUCH better.

driving is about keeping your total focus on the road coupled to a VERY fast tranny.

old style 6 speeds even with the fastest peson shifting cannot even come close to a smg.

nissan makes a tranny that can shift three times faster than you blink.

you cannot shift that fast and neither can you, or you or you over there with the dumb look on your face.

@goaliejerry Well I`m guessing he is referring to an old foxbody mustang, considering the newer 5.0 is approaching closer to 400 ft lb of torque stock (the old 5.0 is around 265 but who knows what upgrades he has done or if he just rounding up...) but when it comes down to it, for me anyway, if I find the car I want I`m not going to let an automatic transmission stop me from getting it. I found a killer deal on 300zx TT once and it was an automatic, unfortunately... But it was in great condition, cheap, and had the exterior/interior color scheme I wanted. So, I just swapped the transmission to a manual and that was that.

If you have a powerful car that had a manual option and you chose an automatic, you have a gaping vagina and should always be sure to wear frilly white gloves when you drive lest your tender hands get chaffed.

More than likely a VW or Audi... The description is so confusing.... More torque than an average import...? ...Wha?

Anyway... I always find the topic of a manual shift funny, because everyone thinks they are special for knowing how to drive it. Come on people, it`s not difficult and nobody is surprised or impressed that you can.

I`m very much a traditionalist when it comes to transmission choice. I`ll almost always pick a manual over an automatic. Both of my cars are stick. That said, there have been some incredible advancements made over the years with automatics. I`ve driven the dual clutch transmissions from Audi, Porsche and BMW and they`re damn impressive. For me, I would only buy a BMW or Porsche with a stick, since they`re the best in the industry, but Audi`s DSG is mighty tempting. The last one I drove was in a B8 S4 on the track and it was an animal.

The title makes no sense. Most of my friends drive manual. I learned to drive at the age of 14 in a honda civic 5-speed stick. 7 years later, I`m driving a mazda rx-8 6 speed. Call me sexist, but the title should have been directed more towards women as none of my female friends know how to drive a stick.

Most entry level cars have a manual transmission available. As well as all sports cars (obviously) or sports models of entry cars.

I personally drive a 5-speed and have the reverse gear in the typical spot after 5th. My dad on the other hand has a 6-speed Corvette with the reverse gear after 6th and it is just weird shifting into 5th and not going into gear (the car won`t let you) because you are pushing the shifter too far to the right. I think I would prefer this configuration just because I`m not going to mistakenly try to force reverse when I`m up shifting.

I can appreciate the premise of this post, but the description makes no sense.

Anyway, I own two BMWs...IMPORTS! A 2001 740i sport (auto) and a 1987 M6 (manual), I love them both.

But this is my transmission of choice

BMW M double clutch... this thing shifts like an F1 car!

God, I miss having a standard. I had this dinky little 4cyl Saturn, but it had a manual transmission and would fly like a bat out of hell on the highway- once got a $350 speeding ticket and a court summons for burying the needle at 110mph (where the limiter kicked in, not because it topped out.)

Comparatively, my wife`s (then) brand new Chevy Cavalier was a 4-speed auto, and it had issues hitting 90, and took forever to accelerate.

Very few American muscle cars have a revere next to first gear. I`m pretty sure this is an import.

I still drive a manual and probably always will. I think it helps me pay attention and I always tell me girlfriend she needs one. It would keep her off the damn cell phone.

Wouldn`t the average import to the USA have a manual transmission anyway? Silly description for a silly picture.

In any case, a lot of the more powerful cars nowadays have a paddle rather than a gearstick. Manual transmission, but safer because you don`t have to take a hand off the wheel to change gear and better because you can change gear faster. Assuming you`re driving fast enough for it to really matter whether you`re driving a manual or an automatic, which few people do.

Looks like a non-issue to me.

For those that think automatic is all everyone in the US drives, there`s a reason those of us over the age of 30 call it `standard` instead of `manual`. Back in the stone age when I learned to drive most cars had what the kiddies today call manual. Automatic transmission was an option.(and an expensive one at that)

Well, it`s an Audi, so it`s already an import.

I can only remember seeing that AC in the A3 2005-2008 gen., but others might have the same.

Doesn`t look like an S-Line, because of the cheap fabric on the floor. Probably a 1,6FSI or 1,9TDi, practically everybody who chose bigger engines have S-Line.

155Nm and 250Nm respectively.

Picture does not make sense.

Why do Europeans feel the need to act smug because they drive a stick shift? I`ve got two Jeeps, one with a stick one auto. Yes, some us uncouth stupid Americans really know how to drive a stick. We also like the convenience of auto especially when we have to sit in a traffic jam inching along at 1/2 mph.
