Mainstream Press Runs With Obama Eating Dog

A line from Obama"s bio (Dreams From My Father) sets off media storm just in time for the election. A big deal, I-A-B?

You`re effectively arguing that "black people find eating watermelon an offensive stereotype, THEREFOR they must not eat watermelon."

And that`s retarded. But what else should I expect from CrakrJakass?

Here`s a thought: Since you don`t work, why don`t you take all that free time and channel it into something productive, like learning a new language, then save up some money and go actually see the world rather than reading about it?
Altaru: Your, and other Obama defenders, assumption, aka prejudice, about `Asians` routinely eating dog is the real problem.

How many Asian people do you know IN ASIA, hmm?

I don`t walk up to any random Chinese restaurant and ask for dog meat, dipsh*t.

But in Asia, AND in other parts of the world (it`s just more infamous in Asia), there are people who eat dog.

IT HAPPENS, I KNOW IT HAPPENS, I`VE F*CKING SEEN IT HAPPEN.

I`ve eaten dog. It doesn`t taste very good, which is part of why it`s not very common anymore.

Just like the whole "eating monkey brains" thing. Just because it doesn`t happen often, doesn`t mean it doesn`t happen.

Try getting out of your living room once in a while and actually seeing the world, rather than deriving all your judgments of other people based on what you read

CJ, but it does happen and it`s not simply a stereotype. I never said all Chinese/Korean people eat dog meat, but a significant amount of people do especially when compared to other countries, and especially if you consider the past (like when Obama was a baby) where it was even more common. Your math was faulty. For example, you assumed 1 dog = 1 meal, when that`s not necessarily the case. And I`m sure if you take samples from certain parts of China, you`d find that people from certain parts eat dog meat more often than other parts.

Lillian: I believe my math on the subject is quite correct .00014th of 1 percent of all Chinese meals are dog. That`s pretty damn rare.

I know Asian people that are upset about that stereotype, it`s really offensive to them. It`s no different than saying black people eat watermelon all the time. Do you get how prejudiced and hurtful that stereotype is now ?

And trust me, I really love South Korea and China. I was even planning to study in China this summer (had to withdraw about 2 weeks ago due to program issues, but I`m going to try again next summer). But I don`t see why you`re trying to deny something that does still happen today. However, I don`t view it as something inherently bad, as much as I love my pets. I eat cows and pigs and chickens so I can`t complain that there are people who eat dogs. I just hope they`re treated humanely before killed, like I hope our livestock here are treated humanely (although they often aren`t).

CJ, but some Asians do eat dogs. I don`t really know about in Indonesia, but it`s still somewhat common in China and South Korea. It`s getting less popular lately (esp in South Korea) because more people are having dogs as pets, but there`s still a market for dog meat. They usually breed specific kinds of dogs to use for dog meat so it`s not like they take any poodle off the street (at least not always). They`re bred and raised to be eaten, like we breed and raise cows. It`s less common in big cities but it still happens. In South Korea there was even going to be a dog meat festival last year, though animal rights activists forced it to end. I believe they`ve held similar festivals in China (and in the past in South Korea) without problem though.

As I said before, I don`t believe Obama ate dog. It`s an experience that Bill Ayers had and added to "Dreams of My Father", for what reason? Who knows. Now that tall tale is coming back to haunt Obama and he has to `own it` or admit "Dreams" was ghost written by Ayers.

BTW the reason most civilized people don`t eat dog is that meat from animals that eat red meat tastes terrible. That`s why we only eat herbivores (with the exception of fish, who don`t eat red meat; they eat fish).

Obama can`t win:

Democrats rip on Romney for for putting his dog in rooftop carrier. Then it turns out that Obama ATE a damned dog!

Democrats say Republicans are waging a war on women. Then a close Obama associate, who has been to the White House more that the Secretaries of State, Defense, and Treasury COMBINED, tells stay-at-home moms that they don`t actually do an REAL work (like shilling for BP and the record industry).

Democrats rip on Romney because his great-grandfather was a polygamist. Then it turns out that Obama`s FATHER was a bigamist (had two wives at the same time.)

Obama says he wasn`t born with a silver spoon in his mouth like "some people" (read: Romney). However, Obama WAS born with a giant chip on his shoulder.

Crakr likes to make a LOT of assumptions about parts of the world he`s never been too based on half-researched "facts" he learned on the internet.

Which is easy for him, since I doubt he`s ever left his hometown, let alone the country.
when was the last time you heard about a sheep refusing to leave its dead masters side?
I had a friend whose pet pig Pork Chop stayed by his bed while he was sick.

Doesn`t mean I don`t love me some bacon.

I also knew a guy who raised deer, and had them to the point where they were effectively loyal, loving horses with antlers.

I don`t really care for venison, but still...

The point is, raised and trained properly, just about any animal can be made loyal to the person who feeds it and treats it right. They can also be raised as food, like the dogs in certain culture zones (not exclusive to Asia, BTW).

The only reason dog, horse, and a lot of those other "objectionable" animals AREN`T eaten all that often anymore is because other animals like cows and sheep are more useful all around for food purposes. And they taste better, IMHO.

Obama, as a very young child (6 years), consumes dog meat. He does so while living in an area where consuming dog meat is acceptable. As a young child living in this culture, he has no reason to assume consuming dog meat is bad. Really, it`s no different from a 6 year old child consuming pig or cow.

Romney, as an adult, puts his pet on the roof of his car and drives quite a distance. The dog is most likely terrified, especially considering it pooped while on the roof of the car. This was clearly dangerous and most likely mentally traumatizing to the pet, even if dogs tend to get over things quickly. Any sensible adult can see why putting your pet on the roof of your car is bad.

I really don`t see how Obama`s situation is worse.

Gerry: Since there are over a billion people in China, 10 million dogs ate is still a rare meal.

1 billion x 2 meals a day x 365 days a year = 730 billion meals (at least) divide by 10 million = .000001369863013698630136986301369863

Yeah, that`s pretty damn rare there Gerry, .00014th of 1 percent.

I`m not going to lie, this has to be some of the most utterly idiotic, petty, immature sh*t I`ve seen in a long time. I was almost tempted to say `ever`, but no, political races have basically transformed into a sick reality show in general anymore.

Maybe instead of making not really at all funny or clever jokes about what a candidate ate as a kid in indonesia, or complaining because someone put a dog carrier on the roof of their car (even though they`re completely different issues entirely), maybe some of these douchebags could spend some time gaining legitimate knowledge about our political system and government, or about politicians` actual stances on issues instead of random conjecture, rather than proving to the entire world what a bunch of dopey f*cks we are.

True @Gerry1, BUT:
The dog eating happened long before the 90`s
Indonesia is mostly Muslim, and they don`t like dogs (as food or companions) it`s in the Koran.

Otherwise yes: other cultures eat weird stuff we `westerners` would rather NOT eat.

BUT it`s still hysterically funny that Obama`s campaign has to defend what Bill (the terrorist) Ayers wrote... I mean Obama wrote!

According to Pet Lovers Companion .com, 2 million dogs were eaten in Korea last year. 10 million in China. The 90`s saw a dramatic increase in dog farms.

Not exactly `rare` is it.

this is not an issue and I wish Romeny would stop trying to defect putting his dog on the roof of his car with this BS.

Crakr - morality of meat is relative. We don`t eat horse here, other cultures do. It IS okay to eat dog, some places. It`s an animal like any other. Just because they`re used as companion animals doesn`t mean they cannot be food.

As a kid on the farm I had pigs and loved playing with them. And I enjoyed eating those pets later on.

I lived in Indonesia for a few years. Ate snake and cricket, why not? I was never offered dog meat or was aware of it being available. I understand that it is eaten in parts of Sumatra and maybe other places but it isn`t common and is definitely haram to a muslim.

But then, I was an adult and mixing with fairly sophisticated people who would have known I would find the idea distasteful. Obama was about, what, six?

As someone who has realized that I can`t justify taking the life of any animal for my food, I find it strange that some people will eat a cow but get angry when another culture eats dog. People in India find eating cow reprehensible, just as you find eating a dog reprehensible. A pig is actually fairly close to humans, genetically, and have actually been found to be smarter than dogs, and capable of completing complex tasks. Many people in our own culture hunt coyotes and wolves, which are about as close as you can get to domesticated dogs.
