Where were you when you heard he killed himself? Were you born? Is he still important? Was he a genius? Thought, I-A-B.

"Cobain was the beginning of the whole emo- thing"

NO!

He was happy. He said this many times.

The song "I Hate Myself and I Want to Die" was a sarcastic jab at emos!

Sadly, some people did not get the joke.

Courtney killed him.

I like the music, even if it`s not of "my generation"

As for Kurt... I`m guessing a chemical imbalance which can depress people. It`s sad when people have children and kill themselves, though. I`d call him selfish, but I don`t know what the exact circumstances were.... Wish he had sought help instead of offing himself (he didn`t as far as I know)

I remember clearly, I was 15. All my friends loved Nirvana but i didn`t care that much for them. When he died everyone wore a t- shirt saying "I hate my self and I want to die" and a picture of Curt on it. Always thought that was lame. Never cared much for emo`s. Cobain was the beginning of the whole emo- thing and frankly I never found this message interesting. Bill Hicks, while talking pop culture once "blew his brains out" on stage, stating that he wanted to see some emotions from the artist. Play from your f*in hearts! So Cobain did it. The first and last emo; and ever since kids have died their hair purple and boys have been wearing mascara. Still, the whole grunge scene is for late hipsters in their mid 30`s with a bachelor in anthropology and a part time job at a radio station with 300 listeners. Now THAT`S depressing!

"Is he still important?"

Really fancy.. Really?

It`s like asking that of any of the legends of music.. He literally changed the way music is portrayed to this day...

And to top it all off.. He thought it was all a f`n joke the whole time...

His legend will never die!!

"best thing he ever did was free up david grohl for foo fighters."

Hey dickwart.

You do realize that Kurt Cobain inspired Grohl to form Foo right?

If it weren`t for that inspiration, Dave would have kept drumming for Scream, and faded away.

I was 13. I remember it vividly. He changed the face of music. He will always be known for being responsible for grunge. Music would not be the same, today, if Kurt wouldn`t have existed.

And I also agree that Courtney is behind his death.

Courtney killed him. Please note the much larger writing at the bottom of this `note` and how different the handwriting is.

@razbitom

the reason queensryche made it to MTV is because of Silent Lucidity, it was enough of a crossover song to be played on MTV. They werent going to change the style of music with it. They are a good band, but it was time for a change and the grunge filled the void that a lot of people were feeling. I was a teenager when grunge "took over" and a skater (before being a skater was cool and embraced with parks and such, lol). It was exactly the music that fit my and my friends lifestyle at the time.

It doesnt fit me anymore, i listen to mostly coheed and cambria, but at that point in my life it was exactly the music i wanted to be there.

hope that makes sense.

and I still don`t care. his music was only considered talanted because of the lack of true talent in music today. his lyrics were poo and made no sense, not even in an artful metaphoric way and the band knew THREE power chords and that was it.

yes i said it, they were poo and to say otherwise is delusional.

Vastly overrated. How can you call someone who could barely play his instrument a great musician? Hell, I remember reading an article in (I think) Guitar Player magazine that he couldn`t even tune his guitar. May or may not be true, but given his lack of playing skill, I can believe it.
Oh, and this is why you don`t do heroin, kids.

i hated the bastard.
prog metal was finally getting into the public eye, especially with queensryche appearing on mtv and such. my hometown had several great prog bands and we were all excited to finally have a chance and wham bam along come nirvana and that eddie vedder group and submarines us all with "grunge"... talentless noise played at heroin speeds.
drat him. best thing he ever did was free up david grohl for foo fighters.

Wow, I guess I was 22. I could not understand why Nirvana was so popular. I understand now, record companies and Mtv wanted them to be. I don`t know anybody my age that is/was into them.

I dunno, I respect the musicians that offed themselves by overdose -Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, JP Jones, Nikki Sixx (almost buddy, almost) Bon Scott... F**K YEAH Bon Scott was a ROCKER!- but not this d-bag.

Can`t think of anything else he accomplished.

It`s funny, I care less about him now than I did when he decorated his house with his brains.

It doesn`t make me a bad person, just someone with a low tolerance for dickheads.

He wasn`t a genius in the academic sense, but was surely a master entertainer. You can`t deny that he was a classic rock star, and therefore a legend who will always be remembered. Not many bands still have any influence at all after nearly 20 years. Love him or hate him, he kicked as while here

I don`t understand why everyone loves him so much and thinks he was such a fantastic guy. Sure, they had some alright songs, and Nevermind was a successful album, but other than that..? I asked someone I know who loves Nirvana why they were so fanatical about him, and they said "He invented grunge!" to which I replied "So?".

Genius? No. He wasn`t even a good musician. What he was, was a huge influence on a generation that needed someone they could relate to. He was important to a lot of people. Myself, I hated the guy and his band`s music. But, I bet he would have been OK with that.

I can`t believe I have to say this....
If you are in a frame of mind to commit suicide you obviously are not thinking clearly. It`s not selfish, it`s desperate. One truly thinks they are making it better for everyone else if they were not alive.

Geeze lighten up on the guy. I wasn`t a fan either but it is still sad.

Douche-y move. I know that I cannot really know what is going on in someone`s head - but I have trouble having sympathy for someone who commits the most selfish act there is. Way to be there for your family . . .

I`m as sorry he`s dead as I am about any other person I don`t know`s demise, but honestly, he wasn`t even that good a musician or father, never mind exceptional enough a human being for me to actually remember where I was eighteen years later.

PS: @fancylad - you suck for making me feel old!

How did this ever get to the public? Are suicide notes usually viewed by so many people?

I have a family members note and I would never let anyone else read it, other than who it was written too.
