Mormons believe in eternal marriage. Be Mormon, be happy. :)

Christians believe that marriage is only for this life because, according to Jesus, there is no marriage in heaven:
Matthew 22:30 "At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven."

I don`t mind reasonable criticisms of Christianity, but this one, like most of the ones on this site, is just stupid.

If Christians believe in life after death, why do they cry at funerals?

This site: some cliché about how Christianity is dumb.
Average commenter: gosh how clever, lets see those evil conservatives defend this.

Mark 12:25 Does explain, somewhat. We will rejoin our families in Christian love and joy when we die. Neither marriage or divorce will be an issue in heaven.

To be fair, both liberals and conservatives have pretty small brains.

I believe there is a whole passage in the bible:

Mark 12:25

I believe he was speaking out of his arse as heaven clearly doesn`t exist, but at least the issue is addressed in the scripture.

Unless you are Mormon, in which case the idea is that it lasts throughout eternity. A beautifully romantic idea.

Earthly relationships don`t matter after death.

Matthew 22:24-33‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.’ Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother. So too the second and third, down to the seventh. After them all, the woman died. In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had her.”
But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the liv

Marriage is forever.
The "till death do you part" bit is how long they are expected
to remain loyal to that person. Without that clause you
could not remarry because you`re still married to a corpse.

the answer to the question is that all earthy covenants, i.e., marriage, end upon death. so when you die you`re single again. forever. and if you have had more than one spouse it doesn`t matter.

no, i don`t get it and i don`t care, being the atheist that i am. its all just a bag of crap and i just remember the nonsense from religion class.

however it really really freaks out my sister who`s very religious and very jealous of her late second husband`s previous two wives... can anyone say `insecure`? or `scorecard`?

Eternal love really isn`t very eternal. Maybe once you die you learn to love everyone as much as you loved each other.

You won`t be married in Heaven anymore because you`ll be happy!

Wait, that sounds odd... but accurate! lolz!

I was taught as a child that if one does "get into" heaven then you have no memories of your life on earth and do not remember or recognize loved ones. I actually started crying once I was told this because it was the saddest thing I had ever heard. I was actually scared to go to heaven for the first time.

Matthew 22:29 Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven."

"I want to know what happens when a spouse dies and the survivor eventually remarries. Does s/he have two husbands/wives in heaven one day?"

That`s not heaven. that`s hell.

because marriage is only valid on Earth. In heaven you become brothers and sisters, God`s children. It would be creepy if you were still married in heaven...

Death parts you when the first one dies, duh! Then you get reunited in heaven. `Sall BS, but that`s the idea.

Usually one spouse dies before the other, parting them for the time being, until they are reunited in paradise? I don`t know, it`s the only thing that makes sense.

That is indeed a very good question. I`d also like to ask how they can actively and aggresively deny two consenting adults the right to pursue happiness by tying the knot because they`re the same sex, yet, don`t blink an eye when a Christian gets a divorce.
