patchgrabber -- I was referring to the 2% difference between chimpanzees and mankind. I understand the other differences you pointed out. I simply don`t think there is enough evidence to support the claim, "Everything evolved from 1 common ancestor." To me the null hypothesis should be, "We must assume that everything did not evolve from the same species." I simply think that there isn`t enough evidence to reject that null.
2% variation in DNA results in a completely different species
First of all, "species" is a subjective term we use to distinguish organisms, the criteria are arbitrary. Second, a 2% difference in genetics is a massive change. One SNP can code a completely different protein and thus have a vast impact on physiological processes, as is evidenced by some forms of cancer. Also, human chromosome 2 is a product of end-to-end fusion of 2 ancestral chromosomes, which if unfused would give us the same number of chromosomes as other Hominidae.

I should clarify --

I wasn`t meaning the book by Darwin, I was meaning the concept of speciation, in general. There just isn`t enough conclusive scientific evidence to accept the notion that all current species came from 1 ancestor. Also, the notion of speciation doesn`t make a lot of scientific sense. 2% variation in DNA results in a completely different species, yet I interpret science as suggesting that they all evolved from 1 species? I don`t buy that argument.

I might buy that evolution takes place in animals to make them more fit for their environment, which results in change over time. However, the case for speciation has not been entirely made. However, research still progresses, and we get a clearer picture each day.

In point of fact, I agree completely with your usage of "agnostic" as it has nothing to do with belief. My comment was to show the logical inconsistency with Simbosan`s definition of "agnostic."

So everything had to start from something? How does religion answer that question? Everything came from God? Then where did God come from? Same problem.

"I assume you were responding to my comment, but my logic is thus: If someone says they`re agnostic, and you ask them "Is there a God?" They`ll say "I don`t know." If you then ask them "Do you BELIEVE in God?" They will either respond "No." or "I don`t know." Either way, they don`t believe in God and are therefore atheists."

Your argument is nullified by the fact that both agnostic atheists and agnostic theists exist. Admitting that we couldn`t possibly know what god is is not a disbelief.

Bullpoo, Just because you don`t know, doesn`t mean you don`t believe. I am an agnostic and play the devil`s advocate over religion mostly, mainly because I don`t care. But I`m not an atheist. I`m just not smug or full of myself enough to be one yet, and can care less if people wish to have any religion they want to.

Actually agnostic means you acknowledge that you don`t know. a-gnosis without-knowledge. Is Greek mate. A-theism means without-god, and means you actually believe there is not a God, which to my mind makes the same error as the theist.

Truth be told, we don`t know.
Problem is, the current laws of science DO NOT allow our universe to have a place of origin.
Untrue. There are many theories on origin of the universe, such as Steady State, Plasma theory, Inflation Universe, Big Bounce, Cyclic Universe, Big Bang, Nebular or Dust Cloud Theory, Big Crunch Theory.
Newton`s third law is that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, so motion cannot start without a driving force.
True, but you fail to consider things we know little about, such as dark energy, which is a large component of space. Just because we haven`t figured it all out yet doesn`t mean we won`t.

Oh, and by the way, when you said you`re agnostic, that doesn`t mean you aren`t atheist. If you "don`t know" whether God exists, then you`re an atheist.

From the front page, time of posting for this link: "4/30/2012 3:01:23 PM". I must have had some pretty good foresight to edit the page 9 minutes before it was put on IAB. Convenient.

Also, I`ve never seen such a density of good Christian boys and girls who have such a firm grasp of memes, not to mention Zoidberg. (http://objectiveministries.org /kidz/art5.html) I feel like good fundies don`t use the internet, much less watch Futurama.

There`s a xian theologian somewhere (the name escapes me, but maybe it`s Niebur?) who once said that atheists rejecting god may just be the most ethical thing they can do. He postulated that if every divine face they had ever experienced showed them only the evil that construct of god is capable of, then negating that evil was the highest Divine calling in and of itself.

Now I know this is too theistically anchored for most atheists` tastes, and I know most everyone is like, "Well Duh" as soon as they read that, but I thought it was good food for thought. It`s too bad these folks are at best spiritual kindergartners, not every philosophical piece written in their tradition is tripe.

The reason Deism > what you believe is a joke IS:
Deists really don`t care WHAT you believe! We`re happy thinking God exists and we should all try to be nice to each other.
We don`t `preach` to spread our `faith` (and it is faith, I admit that)
We listen to every single other religion and say: no thanks!

Here`s the thing I find about ATHEISTS. Many of them are all well and good, but when you start talking about the origins of the universe it suddenly becomes a fiasco. Problem is, the current laws of science DO NOT allow our universe to have a place of origin. Newton`s third law is that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, so motion cannot start without a driving force. The same applies to the big bang. Where did the matter for the big bang come from? Here`s the kicker, if you present something meta-physical, such as an extra dimensional being or force for consideration, atheists immediately clam up and say there is no proof and that you`re stupid for thinking so. But where`s the proof that such a thing does not exist? Where`s the proof that there are no other dimensions of existence?

Now I know what you`re going to say: "All atheists aren`t that way."

And all Christians aren`t like this post either. Case closed, have a beer, and relax.

Since the supposed flyer doesn`t list the source anywhere on it, I have to disagree. The source is from some fringe `anti-tricalvinist` sect`s website. Real tracts, pamphlets and flyers have the church name or website printed on them, they don`t hide that they are the source.

After a very brief web search, I found the source.
Right here. As I thought, it was a graphic on a website, not a handout flyer.

Step 1. Print up anti-atheist graphic in full-page size.

Step 2. Fold paper into pocket size to make it look like a flyer.

Step 3. Take picture of fake flyer with cell phone to make it seem `real`.

Step 4. Ridicule Christians for proselytizing something they didn`t handout to kids.

Christians and Atheists both should get over themselves and just worry about what THEY think rather than what some other loudmouth di.ckhead thinks.

Nah, ever since kit got her hands on the approval button these have been popping up all over the place. I-A-B is more of a Christianity bashing site now than anything else. Hell, the other day I counted 4 anti-Christian posts, all by the new holder of the button. I-A-B, you keep pointing out Christianity`s flaws, but the only damned thing you`re showing is that you`re just as much of an anal bulls#it pusher as these religious nut jobs. Want to show some class? Let it go. There are no pro-Christian posts, there are no anti-Muslim posts, no anti-Jew posts, just poke fun at the cross worshipers.

"But Dave! You could submit your own posts of other things!"

F*ck you. If you mods spent half as much time looking for other things as you do for cross bashing material, you`d actually have some interesting posts. And no, I`m not Christian, I`m agnostic. Get a tampon, quit your bitching about Christians, and move on with your life.

I love how we atheists are supposedly not only unhappy all the damned time, but we`re also actively aggressive! Rawr! :-)

Well, I suppose that some of "us" are. I reckon there are religious folk that way, too, though. I won`t defend all atheists, or condemn all proselytizers.

As for me, I am always happy to talk to people. If asked, I explain why I believe what I believe and I always say that I absolutely 100% honor and support anyone`s right to believe as they do. And I never offer my thoughts first. I don`t preach to or witness to anyone on my beliefs.

I got a smarmy response from some LDS kids the other day, though. After speaking nicely back and forth, one asked if I could suggest "any of my neighbors who`d be righteous enough to want to discuss the word of God with them." That sort of pissed me off, but, I didn`t say anything. I reckon their god will punish him for having said it.

If someone tried to give this to me I`d just laugh and hand it straight back to them.

@Crakr - Why? This was printed for Christians by Christians. Why would this be pro-atheist?

Unless you think it`s a load of bollocks but just dont want to come right out and criticise something about your religion.
