Niel shares what he considers the most astounding fact about our universe. Brilliant. Simple but brilliant.

For me, the most astounding thing is just how drating mind-blowingly big the universe is. Those atoms he speaks of born from supernova must have travelled for a hell of a time just to get here...a tiny insignificant rock in an insignificant galaxy.

Close. But the most astounding fact is that somehow, some way, the universe has made out of all those tiny and tinier bits a way to marvel at itself. To look at the earth, in the seas, and up to the sky and be filled with an ecstatic wonder and a burning desire to KNOW. That is the most astounding fact of all.

@ Slut Etta

I guess you really got him there huh? Picking on the meekest christian and pouncing on the one obvious mistake that anybody with a 2nd grade education could correct. Then bolstering your correction of full on evidence of your intellectual superiority and the stupidity of "so many fellow Christians."

Good job.

@username3415. you, like so many of your fellow christians, have no idea that JESUS made nothing. according to your own christian theology, god made the heavens and the earth. DUH! and that little bit of info came from a militant atheiest....

re neil degrasse tyson. i enjoy the fact that he`s brilliant and yet he doesn`t speak down to people. everything he says is understandable and not spoken in some sort of arcane `code` of sorts that only doctoral candidates understand. and for that, i thank you, sir.

This was a little bit of common knowledge not really the most astounding fact about our universe. But I don`t care. I`m just glad science is getting some exposure. I hope Neil`s passion rubs off on kids in school so we get a larger batch of new scientists.

I found this disappointing. Love this guy and this was kinda pretty, but I was looking forward to some insane fact. This is kind of understood already by most people I think.

As above so below, as within so without-that`s an old spiritual maxim. *Nods sagely*

Also, Coldplay is surprisingly good on vids like these, no?

That time and distance are linked to each other.

I still have difficulty with that concept. I.E. the rotation experiment. If I rotate a wheel at the core slowly and made the rim extend out x distance then eventually one rotation of the wheel would have a rim that spun faster than the speed of light.

However, physicists say no space distorts instead...and that just seems wrong.
