Halfpintroo,
You forgot the ones who always seem to have beer to go along with the cigarettes
If you can pay for beer and cigarettes you don`t need my tax money for food

willowwatch- you are correct. If that was the situation then absolutely that is different.

It`s the ones who talk on their iPhones and ALWAYS have a cigarette but have food stamps, state health care and ask for charity for Christmas because they can`t afford presents for their kids.

here is a thing to consider, what if they had a good job, bought the i-whatsit and then got canned-laid off-what ever later? They are broke now but they still have that tech they bought and haven`t quite gotten to the pawn it all stage yet- they can get assistance

If people on government assistance can feed themselves and afford iCrap, then government assistance is too high.

I`m glad you chose the path of wisdom @Ontario...
When I was in grade school, I remember the welfare kids having newer clothes then me...
True that @HalfPintRoo! When I worked in daycare in the poorest part of town, the welfare kids had new clothes that were dirty, and the working parent kids had old clothes that were clean.
Sad really...

I don`t get it. It`s somehow impossible to own an iOS device and then find yourself in need of government assistance?

Kindle edition

Paperback

iTunes is just one more method of distribution. No big deal.

@bigfatdynamo

what do you mean trying to establish credit? you stated that you used a credit card to buy comforts and then pay for it then buy more. so do you have bad credit or no credit?

also, no one would judge you for buying things on a credit card as long as you werent also trying to buy things with food stamps at the same time, lol

i work in a town that has a lot of people who abuse the system. i saw one woman use her access card to buy 18, yes 18, dippin dots icecream packs. ive also seen it used to buy filet and lobster, name brand soda, tasteycakes, etc. in PA they can also get cash out of their food stamp account using their access card like an atm. ive seem them buy cigarettes and beer with that money

the reason that people are upset about the use and abuse of foodstamps is because of the reasons above. I dont buy dippin dots icecream because, i have other bills to pay for before i can afford luxuries, so why should i pay for theirs

I qualify for food stamps based on my income. I do not get them. I own two iPod touches (one for me, one for my wife). We use them as our phones (wifi coverage only). We use them for entertainment.

Owning a home is more important than an iPod, or a tv, or a gaming console. I cannot build equity into anything but a home. But because I have a few creature comforts, if I were to receive food stamps I would be one of those who was "abusing" the system. I would spend the money on a home if my credit rating were good enough to get a home loan at a reasonable rate. Instead, I use my credit card to buy items, pay on them and buy more so I can build my credit rating. But I am judged by the middle and upper class for those things I purchased to raise my credit rating! Ours is an economic system that gives to those who don`t need it and judges those who try to establish the credit needed to become independent. Ridiculous.

Why should people on low (or zero) income be expected to do without luxury items? This group have no social mobility, no holidays, often are poorly educated and feel marginalized, have less access to healthcare etc etc... do you really think that begrudging them some of the technology you take for granted will help matters?

sorry, @nikkypickles, but you`re wrong. it`s true that you can use these apps on $700 equipment, but you can also use them on a used kindle fire that costs around $75. moreover, many school systems are "renting" ipads and whatnot to students to use during the year. for free.

anyone complaining about the truly poor having a better financial situation should read a book I highly recommend. It`s called "how to get food stamps, welfare, and other benefits." You would be amazed at what you qualify for. so whoever posted, "people on food stamps eat better than i do" I strongly suggest looking into government assistance. There`s no shame in it

And, Madest, the welfare kids even had better cheese then me. The welfare cheese was a huge brick of white Land of Lakes cheese in a cardboard container (which made great baseball card or garbage pail kids cards containers- therefore giving them better boxes then me for baseball cards too!!)

I agree with the person who posted:

"people on food stamps eat better then I do"

Just like, the people with no income have better health insurance then I do.

They are, essentially, in a better finical situation then I am.

When I was in grade school, I remember the welfare kids having newer clothes then me, brand new shoes that I almost never got, new school supplies I never had and free school lunches.

I`m not putting down the need for these programs, but it needs to be redone.

this post sums up everything thats wrong with today. The rich turn the poor on the poor. Blacks on the whites. Minimum wage on the unemployed. Private workers on public service. It keeps the poor from joining together, hunting down and eating the rich.

@Fleaman1797 - while I sympathise with your plight, the mere fact that this book is for reading on "iPhone, iPad, iTouch" etc, SCREAMS the fact that the person buying should probably pawn those expensive toys before claiming welfare checks. If the book was being advertised as a paper copy, there would be no issue - the book`s contents are perfectly valid and probably very helpful (I haven`t read it and so cannot confirm this)

No, im NOT (frustrated) by this. when i was a kid my mom got sick and couldnt work anymore. if it wasnt for food-stamps and info in a book like THIS VERY BOOK. (of course we had to learn the hard way, by trail and error) we would have died and lost our home. just because you get sick doesnt drating mean you should starve todeath! yes im sure SOME abuse the system. but that doesnt make EVERYONE scumbags for USING the system! and drat YOU to the person who posted this! you act like just because you need help from the government you should be ashamed of yourself. well NO. YOU should be ashamed of yourself for making people who ALREADY feel like crap even WORSE!

You sir, are wrong. Yes it is my money. Government of the people, for the people, by the people. We the people... WE THE PEOPLE!

Sorry about your situation, you are entitled to all the beans and rice you and your basketball team of offspring can eat! But sorry, no free smart phones.

@xelous. The tranplant I am waiting for is for my liver. I am currently on the list but I have b+ blood, which the transplant team said is hard to come by. The dialysis is because the kidneys trying to compensate for the crap liver. They say that, if and when, I get a transplant I should be able to get off of dialysis.

Sorry for the triple post. @TDK, I call BS on your post. First, old people are on Social Security and not welfare. Plus, even if it was welfare, I have 5 kids and I do not receive anywhere close to that much. Stop trying to fuel the fire when you are clearly full of poo.

Are you on a transplant list or the transplant you have is what requires dialysis?

a liver transplant or to be in constant agony due to dialysis. I would rather be working but it isn`t an option right now. So go ahead and call me lazy and poo. I have heard it all. Oh, and about welfare taking your tax money. It technically isn`t your money. You pay taxes to the government. The government decides where those funds go. It`s like telling your landlord what to do with the money that you pay, to them, for rent. I just hope all you haters don`t get sick or lose your jobs and need assistance.

First, the whole drug testing for welfare doesn`t work. Look at FL. So they paid $30.00 a person for test to only eliminate about 2%. <sarcasm>That is financially sound and a damn good use of federal funds. </sarcasm>

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am 31, next week, and have 5 children. Prior to December 2010, I worked very hard, since I was 16, and made good money. I loved my job. In December 2010, I went to the hospital thinking I had GI issues. Turns out my liver was failing and caused mu kidneys to work overtime and fail as well. I spent a month in different hospitals while numerous doctors tried to figure out my issue. Turns out I have a genetic disorder called alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency. This caused non-alcoholic cirrhosis. I now have dialysis 3 times a week for over 4 hours a session. Dialysis kills me. It is comparable to chemotherapy. This caused me to be unable to work and I had no choice but to get food stamps. I did not choose to need

I work at wal-mart. this old guy came in earlier today and was complaining about how welfare only gives him a 1400 dollar check every month. He said it`s hard to live off of. I`m like `dude, shut the drat up. i live off 600/mo working here.` as he proceeded to buy a laptop, laptop case, and USB wireless adapter. (he doesn`t have a wireless network, he thinks it just magically gives him internet, i wasn`t going to tell the drattard.)

Yes, this is frustrating.

People on food stamps eat better than I do. Get rid of your damn iPod/iPad/iPhone and the monthly fee if you are starving. Stop taking my tax dollars. If you are so pathetic that you still can`t feed yourself, then you can have beans and rice provided by public assistance... and THAT`S ALL! People on welfare should be sterilized. Parasites on society. No more breeding.

"as applying for such government services is as easy as making a phonecall after looking up the correct number?"

Yeah, because all it takes is a phone call and the government magically gives you free food. It totally works that way.
I tried to get stamps once. They wanted me to prove that even though I was technically still on the payroll of a job I didn`t actually get paid because I wasn`t working there. I wasn`t fired, they just didn`t need me and therefore I wasn`t making money. They wanted me to prove I didn`t have paychecks. How in the hell is that even possible? It`s not, so I don`t get stamps.

"Some people really need it, others take advantage, that is why I am in full favor of mandatory drug testing for people on well fare nation wide."

Come on. This was tried in Florida recently and guess how many people tested positive for drugs? 2%. Another 2% failed to complete the test. The test costs $30 per person. Now why isn`t that considered a waste of taxpayer money?

@ Orchideous: Really? "Get a job"? That`s the very best you could come up with?

A girl I work with has 2 kids and her husband works and they still need food stamps to make ends meet. What would you tell them?

On topic: You would actually be surprised how many people are well to do and still get in the system for food stamp benefits. It is that kind of abuse that makes it hard on those who actually need the benefits. Frankly, anyone stupid enough to pay for the information on their overly expensive "device" deserves to pay for it. The smart ones find the information on their local state webpage.

This isn`t exactly fair, if it is referencing the iOS. Some people work hard and save up their money, buy an iOS device and then lose their jobs.
Now they have no excuse to drop their 3G plan if they do lose their job, but to be forced to sell a piece of technology that is now almost worthless, is ludicrous.

Anyways, that`s what happened to me. I saved up my money, I bought my 3G model iPad, I lost my job and dropped ny data plan.
