Hedkwab: What you don`t know is that a lot of `Whites` in the south have an ancestor that was Black. Records were sketchy and sometimes falsified back then, misogyny was kept a secret. Most people light skinned enough to pass as white did so.

Most people in the south would find it hard to prove they don`t have any mixed ancestors, they know that now and are less likely to be racist because of it.

There are racists of every color, creed, income level, sexual orientation, and location. There are people in Africa fighting each other over a minor difference in skin color and most people here would call both groups `Black`. There are Arabs fighting Persians fighting Kurds fighting Turks fighting Greeks and they all look olive skinned to me.

Slightly More Information
It sure sounds like:
Zimmerman saw a black kid, called 911, followed him in his car.
Confronted kid, a fight broke out.
During the fight the kid was shot.

Who started the fight? Was Zimmerman allowed to confront the "suspect" because he`s Neighborhood Watch? Is the only reason that Trayvon was confronted because he`s Black?

It`s truely sad that a young person was killed, but calling for the other man to be crucified isn`t going to help matters.

well this thread is about 50/50, lemming to coherent thought ratio, which is better than i expected. I love all the "white people get away with everything" comments about a Hispanic dude, lol.

Yep ignore the fact that other residents called 911 and saw the teen on top of Zimmerman. It`s not like media is controlled by political parties with an agenda........ oh wait.

He got in because he was visiting his father! He left his fathers house and went to the store then was walking home when this guy saw a black guy and called the cops. They told him to not approach him, but he went after this kid with candy and soda and no gun and shot him. If the shooter was black he would be in jail right now.
How did this kid get into the `gated community` in the first place ?
Because the gates in these communities are like bicycle locks: they won`t stop someone who wants to bypass them, they`re really just deterrents.

Sorry, but the cops wouldn`t have just let him go if they thought it was murder or even manslaughter.

This is not the real story. George called 911 to report a suspicious person. As he got off the phone the kid attacked him and started beating the crap out of him and slamming his head against the walkway. All the while saying "you`re gunna die tonight motherfxxxxx" George was screaming help when someone in a nearby apartment called 911 again. George`s shirt came up while the kid was beating him, revealing the gun that he is licensed to carry. The kid went for the gun and they struggled for it, George ended up shooting the kid and saving his own life.Stop pulling the race card, George is hispanic, not white.

I`m sure the teen went into a gated community he didn`t live in to hand out cookies though....

Black gets shot in white neighborhood: "MURDER! RACISM! CALL THE FEDS! CALL JESSE JACKSON AND AL SHARPTON! BURN THE PLACE TO THE GROUND! RIOT!"

White gets shot in black neighborhood: "That dumb bastard should have know better than to go there."

whatever really happened we probably will never know for sure since only the neighborhood watch guy can say what happened at this point, and there is no way to prove him wrong/right besides just taking his word.

There`s a serious lack of facts and info in this sensationally slanted hack job disguised as journalism.

How is his past criminal record relevant to this crime?

Why did they choose a photo of the youth smiling and a scowling picture of his shooter?

Even the wording is intended to sway you in an obvious direction.

Meh.

What made this person "suspicious" in the first place? Race?

The force is strong with white people in Florida.

No information to say anything.
Did the rentacop over react?
Did the teen challenge or charge at him?
No way to know from that report.

unicyclemstr-"I`m pretty sure shooting an unarmed person in the chest is not self defense, regardless of if he attacked first or not, thats a kill shot."

Then you would be wrong. There is no law that states you must meet force with similar, but not more, force. Or do you want a law that says as long as a 250lb thug is unarmed, a 100lb woman can not use more than her fists to protect herself?

unicyclemstr-"Unnecessarily confronting somebody"

What makes you think it was unnecessary? He could have been doing everthing from `walking to church for a prayer meeting`, to `in the middle of raping a nun`. We only have his parent`s story that he was `just walking home`, which is what the family ALWAYS says.

Seeings as there were black families in the neighborhood, I highly doubt a member of the neighborhood watch would call the police saying "There`s a BLACK GUY walking down my street! What do I do?!?!"

bataleon27-"how in any way shape or form is this right? "

If he was attacked, it would be self defense. The fact that the attacker is unarmed is irrelevent.

If not, it would be murder.

shamrock1014-"what authority does a neighborhood watch have"

Only that which the gated community gives him.

shamrock1014-"who is he to stop someone and question them?"

In most gated communities, you can be questioned by security and/or neighborhood watch. You agree to it when you move in.

shamrock1014-"911 operators are trained"f

Not always, nor are they on the scene to make a judgement. They can no order a caller to do anything.

LillianDulcI-"They`re trained to instruct others"

But they have absolutely NO authority to do so. And an individual is not required to follow 911 operator instructions.

911 operators ALWAYS say to NOT protect yourself. It`s frustrating to hear people in their own homes, armed, with someone breaking in, and the operator tells the homeowner to put the gun away. You don`t have to obey a 911 operator. And I really hope this case doesn`t cause precedence for us to have to obey an operator.

And what was the kid doing that looked suspicious??? (besides being black)

Curious about why the video says 2 weeks ago, and that Zimmerman is 28 years old, but the article says nearly a month, and that he`s 26. Also, I notice that the article mentions that the shooter "was found bleeding from the nose and the back of the head," but again, no mention of that in the video.

Not saying either is right or wrong, just some discrepancies in the story here. If he was bleeding from the back of the head, *something* had to have happened...

Mr. Zimmerman`s eyes are set very close together, and his ears sit very low.

I love all the immediate calls for his arrest. He didn`t get arrested that night, which means that he has some sort of possibly credible story. The cops just don`t arrest you on a whim. But yet, a 2 minute news story is all the dregs of IAB need to convict him.

I`m pretty sure shooting an unarmed person in the chest is not self defense, regardless of if he attacked first or not, thats a kill shot. also, as soon as the kid saw the gun he probably stopped whatever he was doing, as almost anyone who has a gun pulled on them would. I just think that this guy needs to go to jail.

A 911 operator can not advise, tell or instruct an individual to do anything.

Of course they can.

If we assume that the young man was just walking along and did not in any way provoke the shooter, than yes, you are correct. If however, we assume that the young man started to attack the shooter, even without a weapon, then some form of self defense is warranted.

The shooter was in his car and got out to confront the young kid. Do you believe this young kid just all of a sudden decided to car jack Zimmerman when he was 70 yards from his house?

"A 911 operator can not advise, tell or instruct an individual to do anything. "

Um, yes they can. They`re trained to instruct others on what to do until the police/ambulance/whatever arrives.

It`s all a neighborhood WATCH for a reason. All training that these watches get instruct to never get involved and approach, it`s to watch and report.

@MeGrendeal, and what authority does a neighborhood watch have, who is he to stop someone and question them? 911 operators are trained, this guy was not. Of course there was a fight, the kid probably told him to drat off and Zimmerman was getting his ass kicked by some young kid, so he shot him.

how in any way shape or form is this right? It`s murder, the fact that he was in neighbourhood watch is irrelevant. The US is a ridiculous country, they seriously need to re-evaluate their law system.

I have dual nationality, but I don`t think I could every bring myself to live there again whilst this sort of stuff goes on.

@MeGrendel:

In some jurisdictions, 911 call takers are law enforcement officers. And even then, in certain instances, a 911 call taker may be a officer by coincidence, ie they work overtime as a dispatcher / call taker.

"A 911 operator can not advise, tell or instruct an individual to do anything."

In general, no. But in certain circumstances, they can.

911 operator does not equate to `law enforcement officers`.

OpsAss13-"The gunman was advised to stand down and didn`t."

shamrock1014-"was to told to not to confront the individual"

A 911 operator can not advise, tell or instruct an individual to do anything.

LillianDulci-"The kid didn`t attack until provoked. He was on his way from getting snacks at a convenience store and he was unarmed. Shooting an unarmed person is not shooting them in defense."

And yet you ignore the fact that the gunman was "was found bleeding from the nose and the back of the head.", so obviously he had been attacked.

Funny that you take victim`s family`s statements as gospel, but automatically disbelieve the homeowner.

`Unarmed` does not equate to `not dangerous`.

At them moment I`m not sure which way to lean, I`ll wait for more information to be relaesed.

"The gunman was advised to stand down and didn`t. He is totally in the wrong."

If we assume that the young man was just walking along and did not in any way provoke the shooter, than yes, you are correct. If however, we assume that the young man started to attack the shooter, even without a weapon, then some form of self defense is warranted.

What we don`t know about this is which way that went. That`s what I`d like to know.

Zimmerman called it in, was to told to not to confront the individual, did anyway, an argument and fight ensued where Zimmerman was getting his ass kicked, so he shot him.

Theb story in the link is better.

Bottom line: in most states you have to be in your home and your life threatened to shoot in self defense. Did the kid take a swing at him?

This guy sounds like a nut job. But racist? Who knows, at the end of the day a kid with snacks and an ice tea in his hand is shot dead. Very sad.

Having been in this type of situation. I can tell you that news stories are mostly full of lies and completely made up "facts."

I had to fire on an armed robber. After being questioned by police and released with no charges. The newspaper printed a story that said I had shot the man in the head execution style and in another said that I shot him while he was fleeingthe scene. The man lived and both stories were untrue (I shot the man when he pointed his gun at me.) But I am sure many took this as "facts" because it was printed in black and white.

Moral - you absolutely can NOT believe the news for fair and accurate reporting.

This is why I can`t stand the news. There are no details on what exactly happened outside of "This guy shot that guy."

Also, 911 operators are not police and don`t have any authority that anyone else doesn`t have.

I`m not sure how you people can `agree` with one side whenever you have no information on what happened.
