With regards to racing...does it qualify for any official racing? Yes, it`s racing at Le Mans, but only as a special favour for media attention and it`s not actually in the race because it doesn`t qualify in any category.

~630hp/tonne, apparently. That`s not far off proper LMP class racing cars, so it should really shift. An Ariel Atom 3 300 has about the same power (300bhp), weighs nearly 30% more (612kg vs 475Kg) and has much more drag...and that does 0-60 in 2.9s.

I wonder how the odd wheel layout and big imbalance in tyre width affects handling, especially cornering.

I also wonder how they got the weight down to 475Kg and how much it costs to do so.

The Deltawing concept was one of the final three choices for the new Indycar chassis platform. It would have been pretty awesome to see these Deltawing cars running around the Indy 500. Chip Ganassi was pushing hard for this design.

Looks cool! That it`s been developed this far means there`s serious potential here.

vv There`s lots of "24 hour" races, Le Mans is the most famous.

IF it can hold the reliability (and at Le Mans reliability is everything), it could be a leading contender. Reason is under Le Mans rules only 5 mechanics can work on the car at once. Average stop time per pit stop in 2011 for cars that didn`t break down (and there were some) was around 50 secs. If it chops the amount of pit stops in half from 31 for the Audi to 16, it can save 16 x 50 secs (+ the 24 secs to drive in and out of the pit each time, so 16 x 74 secs. That`s 19 3/4 minutes, or at race leading speeds, about 5 1/2 laps. That`s a huge huge amount of time over 24 hours. Staying stationary is not good, it`s why Peugeot and Audi operated diesel cars, to reduce the amount of stops (since catered for by reducing their fuel tanks accordingly in that class).

But all this is only useful if it stays reliable though.

Interesting. I wonder how well it brakes, seeing as it`ll have a significantly smaller tire contact-patch. Another worry I have is that it will go like the Reliant Top Gear tested, but I guess downforce could solve that.

it also weighs less than half what a typical car in its class weighs. so far this thing is a beast and is capable of achieving plenty in the race world! can`t wait for its first race coming up!
