In 10 to 15 years, odds are good that these little robots will be everywhere.

Very, very impressive. I wouldn`t mind seeing these as an everyday occurrence, but I wish they`d sound a little less like mosquitos.
A swarm of mechanical mosquitos carrying stuff around, patrolling, etc. would be so incredibly annoying...

Yeah, they aren`t going to be everywhere. Come back to Earth.

For an emergency such as a fire or a person lying on the floor who isn`t moving, the quad could text a guard station or even place a 911 call. For lesser concerns (a room that`s too warm or too cold), the quad could download the info when it returns to its charging base.

Using small quad slots to pass from store to store and room to room, one of these little robots could go out on a patrol of an entire mall every 30 minutes, maintaining a log of all data should it be required.

At some point, the insurance industry will recognize that a quad-patrolled mall has greater security than one with conventional sensors and human guards alone and will offer lower rates for quad patrolled buildings.

So, there`s my prediction: By 2025 or so, we`ll all be accustomed to these little things inside malls, factories, hospitals, and offices, zipping over our heads like hummingbirds, taking note of temperatures, water leaks, smoke, you-name-it.

The lecturer suggest some possible applications for these robots, such as searching through buildings in the wake of a disaster and surveying buildings that are contaminated with hazardous substances, such as chemicals or radiation.

A more commonplace application that I predict will be in malls, large factories, and other large buildings. I expect that within 10 to 15 years, "Quads" (quad rotor autonomous robots) will be used to patrol those spaces. By cutting small "quad slots" into the tops of walls, a mall could use one of these robots to fly a patrol through dozens of stores and their supporting backrooms, looking for leaks, smoke, fire, carbon monoxide, high temperature levels, and even intruders (in off-hours or in restricted areas). A quad could even be used to detect a person lying on the floor, which might indicate a medical emergency.

Wow, they fly through 12 dimensional space too. :-P

I wonder how much C4 one could carry. And a little copper disc.

On the less, pessimistic, side, this tech could potentially lead to cars that drive us. The more this collective computing is studied, sped up, and uses less memory, a lot of our daily actions, as with all tech, will be replaced with computers and robots.

Oh look, someone programmed robots to do what people have been trying for thousands of years to do....

.....Come and work together

On the counter side, this is nothing new, just a new smaller size on an old RC vehicle.
