most restaurants that expect to have clientele who *don`t* realise that gratuity is compulsory will have some sort of notice printed on the menu.
higher class restaurants have a clientele who know that it will be included and typically don`t have any notification.

with the prices on that receipt i`d say if mr manning wasn`t expecting a compusory gratuity then he had ideas above his station and should go back to the olive garden.

@ajd121 - Since when has tipping been in any way a reference, or directly related to one`s net worth?

Gratuity Included??

I would burn down the establishment for this kind of deceit.

Gratuity is something *I* voluntarily give.

If I saw this from any place of business I would immediately refuse to pay this 18%... Extra tip? -18%.

Yeah it looks like this guy rounded up to 50%. Freaking generous is what he is. I wonder what the service was...

My friend works in fine dining and has celebrities come in all the time (it is L.A.) and when Oprah came in she left a $1800 tip on a $1800 check. That`s F-ng awesome but the tips are pooled. Still though.

They had already included an 18% tip. A bit of arithmetic shows that he rounded it up to 50%.

At my job, tipping can be anywhere from 10% to over 100% depending on the customer. There are a lot of wealthy people out there that like to throw their money around. I can`t complain hehe.

@ajd
That`s because .000017% of his net worth is 100% of yours xD

Funny Peyton Manning tips .000017% of his net worth and everybody says he is a good guy, I do it and everybody say I`m a Jerk.

An additional 27%. Nice. I wonder if the restaurant pools all the tips together or each keeps their own.

Why do people get so arsey about tipping? Find out the local custom and go with it, or take a principled stance and don`t eat there and maybe campaign for basic pay if it really means that much to you.

Don`t stiff the server and claim you`re making a point, tightwad.

The included 18% gratuity means that he brought in a large party.

He then tipped $200 on top of that.

I fail to see a problem... he does something really cool, and it gets posted on IAB asking if he`s illiterate BECAUSE he did something really cool?

eugenius, I enjoy your comments, but the content you submit that somehow ends up getting posted really sucks.

I`m glad I live in a country were tipping ins`t the norm. Seems that it cases an awful lot of fuss compared to paying the staff a decent wage.

Not like he can`t afford it good on him! I waited on Bill Parcells once he`s a good tiper $20 on top of the 18% that was included it was just a small lunch.

Basically he just double tipped. 18% was already factored in the total and he added $200 on top of that.

I know in my restaurant if you don`t want to pay the "8 or more 18% gratuity tip", talk to a manager and you can change it in case of lousy service. Trust me when people get large groups, they sometimes put themselves on "Lazy mode" since they are getting the guaranteed tip anyways.

I went to a restaurant last month with some friends. It wasn`t that busy and we got horrible service. They never checked on us, they took forever to get our food to us, and served the appetizers with the the main course (it`s not a big deal, but usually you want time between both) then added a 18% gratuity, on each individual check. They did not deserve 18%. In fact, they hardly deserved the normal 10%

Unless he spent all that money on his own, he probably had a large party of people with him and it is pretty normal for restaurants to automatically include the gratuity at a fixed rate (18% normally) when a large party comes in. Either way, very generous tipper!

@Hellsh : In restaurants in the United States it is common for there to be an included, fixed gratuity charge for parties of 8 or more. This is likely the case here.

First of all, what currency is this. Secondly, 18% included as a fixed rate??? This place would never see me as a customer.
