    28If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

29Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel`s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

@unmercyfuldu & @I-Is-Bored: That`s not "Christian Law" at all, it`s Old Testament. Get over your Christian-bashing and say something about Islam, m-kay? You know, the actual religion involved here?

It`s good to read that there are people & groups actively fighting this sort of horror.

I`m gonna be childish and say "Nana Nana Boo Boo! Told Ya So! Told Ya So!"

Again, we do NOT have to respect all cultures and religions. Some, like this one, are not worthy of respect. Tolerance.... okay, in their country but not in mine. If they can`t civilize their behavior then they can stay where they are.

Religious law should not trump the freedoms of the land. If you want to participate in the rules and regulations of your religion, then by all means, go ahead. But if you do not want to be subjected to them, then they should have no power over you.

I posted that scripture not to bash Christianity but to preempt any criticisms of Islam by anyone with a religious agenda. 5cats, you foolishly assume this only applies to Christians, last I checked the Jews happen to know something about your old testament. But I have seen you toss around that defense before, as if the old testament doesn`t apply to Christians. Jesus says to keep the law. He refers specifically to the old testament. Is the God of the old testament different then that of the new? Are you as dismissive of other stories in the old testament such as Adam and Eve, Noah, Moses and the 10 commandments, Lot or the book of Psalms? If you call yourself a Christian you are told to follow keep and follow the old testament by Jesus. And the old testament has passages that are just as immoral as the Islamic rule that is the subject of this post.

This has less to do with religion, and more to do with how advanced or in this case how far behind certain cultures and countries are. Some cultures are still decades even centuries behind the rest of us, and will interpret religion in such a way. No different to how the Europeans interpreted Christianity during the dark ages. You can say the same thing about this whole Kony baloney by replacing Religion with Tribal differences.

OK...so when was the last time that verse from Judaism was enforced by a court because of Christianity?

To put it another way, how many centuries are you saying that Islam is behind Christianity?

Has a court dominated by Christianity ever enforced that verse? Is that translation of that verse right anyway? Translation from ancient Hebrew to modern English in a totally different cultural context is difficult to do accurately even without any agenda biasing the results.

And as usual, it`s the religious Christians bashing the religious Islamists/Jews whatever, for their particular interpretation of bronze-age religious law. Christianity has the exact same verses, as someone pointed out earlier in this thread.

Am I the only one here who sees that the problem is with f*cking religion, period? Stop basing our modern laws and morals on the bronze-age scribblings of middle-eastern goat-herders and we`ll all be better off.

Christians say: "Look at those Muslims! Savages!". Muslims say : "Look at those Christians! Infidels!"

F*ck all that noise, I say: "Look at all those religious f*cking moonbats. It`s 2012 for f*ck sake. Get over it".

A government doesn`t have to sponsor a religion in order to point out the immoral teachings of a particular religion`s dogma. People fight all the time in the United States about how this is a Christian nation. If you had state sponsored religion in this country I suspect you would see many things like this work their way into our society and law. Western societies tend not to perpetrate the atrocities seen in Islamic governments not due to any merit of Christianity but due to secular law. It is the separation of religion and our law that protects people from things like this. There are still atrocities carried out in the name of Christianity, they just happen not to be state sanctioned.

@Davymid: How in the world does a Muslim nation imposing Islamic Laws make CHRISTIANS to blame?
    Hum?
A central point of Christianity is that Jesus replaces the "old ways" with His sacrifice. Sure Jesus said to follow the laws too, but obviously not ALL of them! So any OT rule which contradicts Jesus`s teachings is void and moot.
Love thy neighbor =/= marry your rapist.
YOU may `equate` all 3 religions, but their followers do NOT equate them. Regardless of @Baalthy`s rantings.

So we are saying Christians aren`t as bad as Muslims because they don`t take their religion as seriously?
That`s not what he`s saying and you failed to answer the question.

Also: God created the light that seems to be 6 billion years old at the same time He created the Universe (from that other thread).

Also, you use the classic, "well how was that translated?" red herring. Seems like every time a Christian is confronted with the immoralities of their bible it is always, "Hebrew translates funny" or "the cultural context is different." Exactly! So why to people turn to the cultural contextual moral teachings of sheep herders from 3000 years ago? If you claim that god is morally infallible then why don`t his teachings jive with what you believe now?

I never quoted any scripture, so I never showed any translation. Even if I take the most liberally translated scripture that replaces "rape" with "and a man talks her into sleeping with him" is it still morally acceptable to you that she is forced to marry that guy?

Kinda makes the whole `sacrifice a bull` thing moot, don`t you think?
So obviously, some Torah Laws were replaced by Jesus. Once fulfilled, you don`t need the `old` prophecies anymore except for a history lesson.

I think where the people who are comparing this to christianity are coming from is not that christians would do something like this, but that when you let ANY religion dominate law-making or the decisions of higher officials, it`s usually a bad thing. You`re not there yet in the US, but if some people had their way it would be.

Human rights should apply, not religious right.

Some things are just wrong and making a victim a slave to their attacker no matter what the crime is wrong.

Imagine your a guy that got raped by another guy at gun point, and then was forced to move in with him and cook him dinner by the government, and let him have sex whenever he wanted.

Anyone, religious or not should be able to see that this is wrong, and only outdated religious laws would make this acceptable.
In this case laws which place men above all creatures including women and who put mens rights far above all others. The strong rule the weak still where religious are concerned.

The only line of the bible I truly love: And the meek shall inherit the earth.
As rights equalize women, `nerds`, etc rise with a voice.

so its obvious you guys arent going to read the link i sent. Islamic ruling says that the victim is charged with nothing, and is paid with a maher (cash, gold, car, ect...) to compensate, then the rapist is minimum charged with 100 lashes and jailed for a year.

NOW FOR THE FUN PUNISHMENT FOR THE RAPIST

if the rapist was holding a weapon, then he truly transgressed and gets even a more severe punishment, like cutting the left hand and the right foot. I think thats fair, and thats the real ruling in Islam.

However, forcing the victim to then interact with the attacker in any way is wrong, never mind being put into a situation where future attacks become legal.

Seems like every time a Christian is confronted with the immoralities of their bible it is always, "Hebrew translates funny" or "the cultural context is different." Exactly! So why to people turn to the cultural contextual moral teachings of sheep herders from 3000 years ago?

You seem to have mistaken me for a Christian. I`m an atheist. I think that religion in general and the Abrahamic religions in particular have done and continue to do far more good than harm and if I could go back in time to change one thing it would be to stop Abraham.

The problem is that people don`t even turn to the moral teachings of bronze age sheep herders. They turn to whatever they want and claim divine authority for it by claiming that it`s the teachings of those bronze age sheep herders.

If you claim that god is morally infallible then why don`t his teachings jive with what you believe now?

I don`t claim that any of the gods that I don`t believe exist are morally infallible.

I never quoted any scripture, so I never showed any translation.

You quoted verses, which makes an interpretation mandatory and a translation mandatory for anyone who doesn`t read ancient Hebrew.

Even if I take the most liberally translated scripture that replaces "rape" with "and a man talks her into sleeping with him" is it still morally acceptable to you that she is forced to marry that guy?

Those verses talk about what the man must do, not what the woman must do. So your question would be irrelevant even if I thought any religion had anything to do with morality (which I don`t).

@5cats, thanks for the advice :) but yeah, you should blame the religion for the stupid culture people still hold. For example, NO WHERE, and again, I mean no where, is it mention to mutilate the women`s private parts. Thats just wrong on so many scales. Please dont think true Islam is like this. If you actaully read the quran and the syra(the story of Muhammad), you would be amazed at what happened to a terrible place to make it amazing.

    @5cats

lol, still visiting the dead link. Its sad how rules were set up, but never applied. When Muhammad (pbuh) died, not even the next day, some people wanted to reduce the prayer to 3 times a day and abolish the charity. Its amazing how disgusting humans are. Also, one of his best friends (like, literal best friend that he use to hang out with all the time) was a slave (search up bilal).
