    If I was a chick, I would bang this guy because he deserves it and has earned it. Unless he`s gay, then I`d bang him if I was into dudes.

    His name is Winston Kemp. Claims he didn`t even realise he was hit by lightening until an hour later when the scar showed up.

    Mine ist skeptical.

    Must get struck by lightning. You`d think after these decades of constant blasphemy some deity out there would have gotten around to it by now...

    Trajik007 That is a authentic lightning scar. My business partner was struck and killed by lightning right in front of me. His skin was a mass of the burns (some just like the photo above - some were - well - horrid.) It`s fried nerve pathways.

    Steelgrid - No need to be rude to me. A lot of lightning strike victims do NOT suffer burns so it could be caused by something else.

    Should have Googled it before. They are not burns. Here`s from the wiki...

    "Lichtenberg figures may also appear on the skin of lightning strike victims. These are reddish, fernlike patterns that may persist for hours or days. They are also a useful indicator for medical examiners when determining the cause of death. Lichtenberg figures appearing on people are sometimes called lightning flowers, and they are thought to be caused by the rupture of small capillaries under the skin due to the passage of the lightning current or the shock wave from the lightning discharge as it flashes over the skin."

    @Lady Morgue

    Basically what you said is that they`re burns. The lightning causes an increase am energy which causes capillaries to burst. Heat basically = energy

    Once... once, I was in the top of an oak tree and this BIG storm came up and the wind was so strong it was actually blowing the LEAVES off the tree and and then my tail got all full of static, and and and....

    Yeah she was trying to fish for a way to prove that somehow these were not burns and not painfull. My "rudeness" inspired her to google it, then read what she wanted to see. THEN she tries to correct you after saying its not a burn, then she explains that its a "burn underneath the skin".......

    ....Yeeeaaaahhhhhh, FAIL!!!

    It amazes me that anyone survives being struck by lightning. Air is a strong electrical insulator, yet lighting punches through a couple of miles of it by turning it to plasma and exploding it. It carries gigajoules of energy and heats air to tens of thousands of degrees. How does anyone survive being hit by that?

    @Angilion: Good question, and I share your wonder. A couple thoughts:

    (1) Electricity exhibits something known as the "skin effect." This doesn`t refer to human skin, but to the tendency of an electric current to run over the very surface of objects. This is why the electrical insulators you see on power lines are usually ribbed or made of joined saucers sharing the same radial axis: they`ve been designed to maximize the surface area to address the skin effect. So I`m guessing that plays a role in survivability.

    (2) Also, there`s the brief duration of a lightning strike. It`s a horrendous jolt, but it`s over in a fraction of a second.

    All that said, it`s still a mystery, especially when you consider that a tree that splits when struck by lightning does so because the sap boils almost instantaneously, turns to steam, and explodes the surrounding wood.

    So, yeah: How the heck are humans surviving lightning strikes?
