Well, it is by Quantic Dream and David Cage, the guys responsible for Heavy Rain, so I think it`s not surprising that they`re improving on facial animation. Don`t really think it`s mindblowing, but it was impressive none the less, the eyes especially.

Darknetix, yes, I got the HD DVD part wrong, you are correct. Though you could say I was giving the 360 more credit as an HD DVD can hold almost 3x more than a dual layer DVD. As for the rest of your comment...

In Episode 2, Kara completes her transformation into a real woman when she learns how to cross her arms over her chest and say, "Fine."

All moves on a bit at a time.

Motion capture to motion - Pretty much there.
Mouth movement - room to improve still, getting better.
Eyes - Best I`ve seen anywhere, with a little iris work will be flawless.

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about, because xbox 360`s do not read HD DVD`s. They read dual layer dvd`s. HD DVD readers were an external peripheral that you could purchase seperately. Not knowing something as simple as what type of media that a 360 reads confirms that you do not have a clue about how CPU`s and/or GPU`s work!

FatNinja, the Xbox doesn`t have enough computing power to handle graphics of this caliber. Why do you think Metal Gear Solid 4 was made PS3 exclusive? Not only is there not enough room on an HD DVD to house the game, but the Xbox physically cannot run the game engine. This was simply a graphics demo of what the system can do. Honestly, I think the system has enough power to still compete with any new next gen systems Nintendo or Microsoft might be planning in the next few years.

That said, I am not a Sony fanboy trying to brag about the system. My PS3 broke months ago and I`ve made no effort to get a new one or get the old one fixed, I`ve moved onto PC; much easier, much more accessible, and I have no plans of going back. I can still, however, admire the system for its power. Its hardware reliability, unfortunately, can be lacking though.

Original idea do not steal

"The full powa of a pstrhee!"
was realized years ago, modern developers use quite a bit of smoke and mirrors to overcome the limits of the hardware.

Even "open world sandbox" games like gta4 was designed in such a way that you were always in a corridor and there was always an odd turn in a straight road to block your view distance, for instance.

Quite impressive indeed. I just wish this didnt seem like a really long tease for an upcoming game or movie that isnt being made.

That was a realtime render. Typically, cinematic quality footage is chewed on for days, and converted to a movie file that is simple displaying a bunch of images. This is computing and rendering it all as it is happening, so that would be the appearance of the game world you would be playing in. You can see that some of the framerates are a little low with the robotic arms, and also the lighting is not rendered quite as high-quality as an actual cinematic render, but it`s still impressive.

As for the PS3 having "untapped power" the PS3 is a console running on 6 year old technology. A decent gaming PC has way more processing power than a PS3.

My robot sexmaid is going to cry to get her way? Just great. Maybe she can spend my money too.

It was all on the voice acting there. I was hooked. Robots will win the war with performances like that.

There isn`t much power in a Ps3 to begin with.

@TkA, I think the new tech is that it wasn`t rendered.. the girl`s full facial expressions and body movements were captured and mapped exactly as the actor did them. (like avatar, not new in general, but new to gaming)...

It was a good video but the only particularly interesting thing about this technology is seen in the mouth movements when the character is speaking. This has always been a big problem in video games and most 3D videos, as opposed to films where they have a lot more time and money to produce the animations.

Other than being dramatic and well "voice" acted, this looks like normal CG that we already get on video games.

Next she`s sold to a fat russian sadist who would be put in prison if he and his friends did what they`re about to do to a human.

On par with todays graphics. i was hoping to see some crazy realistic rendering but i dont think anyone has ever really tapped into the full power of the Ps3.

I like the story. Seems a little unrealistic though... also a little overdone.

I`ve seen this "robots attain sentience" thing several times now in movies and games... and it`s *never* been done right in that it plays out like it actually would in real life. It`s always flawed in that it expects sympathy from humans or that the humans don`t understand what they`ve created or that the humans themselves are impossibly reckless.

I suppose the least terrible must have been that mediocre movie (IMO) bicentennial man. But hey, prove me wrong.

And yes, I could tell it was running off a PS3. Dat sh*t`s old!
