"Hangtime is a ghetto/rap term? Really? I thought it originated with surfing."

It probably originated from football or perhaps an even older ball-related sport. I don`t mean the pussy football btw, i mean American football.

I agree that this is neither freerunning nor parkour, but I think that the description is accurate anyway. It doesn`t say that he`s freerunning. It says that he`s demonstrating freerunning skills, which he is - this type of gymnastics is showing skills that you would use in freerunning.

hangtime is a term used in a lot of sports to signify how long something is in the air. Football: the hangtime of the ball after a punt. Basketball: the hangtime of a player before a dunk. Golf: the hangtime of the ball mid flight after it has been struck by a club (usually on windy days), not to be confused with "carry".

it isnt a black or ghetto term. you are an idiot. go back to your corn in the midwest and leave all the brain learnin` to those of us who are capable.

"i`ve NEVER heard the word "Hangtime" used outside of skateboarding and skating let alone being used by black people."

It`s used often in basketball when a player goes for a dunk.. How long they stay in the air is the amount of "hangtime" they have between jumping and putting the ball in the basket. Lots of black people play basketball, so there`s that too.. There`s also a snes/n64 game called "NBA Hangtime".

I always thought "Hangtime" had to do with how much time you spend in the air once you launch yourself off the ground. You know like ....Holy Crap did you see the hangtime Jordan got on that dunk ???"

"Hangtime" ... ? really?

You couldn`t just call it gymnastics or tumbling, it had to a have a ghetto/rap name to give it street cred or something?

Good skills though, but I`m tired of this dumb-down culture.

WorldOfJames: both of us are wrong. Parkour (abbreviated PK) is a physical discipline which focuses on efficient movement around obstacles. Developed in France by David Belle, the main purpose of the discipline is to teach participants how to move through their environment by vaulting, rolling, running, climbing, and jumping. Parkour practitioners are known as "traceurs".

i WILL agree that this is tricking/tumbling though.

jesus christ this isn`t freerunning or parkour. parkour is getting from point A to point B as quick as possible, no flips, freerunning is the same but with flips etc thrown in. This is tricking/tumbling.

its called gymnastics without the formalities, and is far less impressive.
