It"s equestrian riding so the damn horse will be doing all the work, but still--70. You think your grandparents could?

Because, you know, riding is totally no effort on the rider.

(Protip, not true, I used to do a lot of endurance riding, and in order to compete me an my horse were both in peak physical condition. It takes a huge effort on the parts of both the horse and rider. Riding is strenuous, especially when you are not fit. When I first started I remember rising and falling to the trot being like doing squats. For hours. On end. Eventually my legs got so strong it was effortless. I`ve been out of the saddle for a few years now and I am so unfit as a result.)

"Why are equestrian events in the olympics, anyway?"

Because horseriding, for both the horse and the rider is a thing that takes a surprisingly huge amount of fitness and skill.
